Lee Seung-gi and Lee Se-young navigate friendship and love in KBS’s Love According to Law

New character teasers and stills have dropped for KBS’s Love According to Law, featuring our main couple-to-be Lee Seung-gi (Mouse) and Lee Se-young (The Red Sleeve Cuff).

The drama stars the two Lees as long-time friends, Kim Jung-ho and Kim Yuri, in a classic friends-to-lovers romance. While Yuri remains seemingly unaware, Jung-ho has long been harboring what he thinks is a one-sided crush. But the drama fates are working their magic and our story sets off with building owner Jung-ho leasing out his first floor to lawyer Yuri, who’s opening a new law cafe.

The new character teasers are formatted like interviews and the captions first ask for name and occupation. Our hero introduces himself as “Kim Jung-ho,” explaining that he’s a rental business operator and web novelist. In the sequence that follows, we get a glimpse of his daily activities which involves lounging in his kiddie pool and playing Go Stop with his three tenants: Baek Hyun-joo (The King’s Affection), Jang Hye-jin (Green Mothers’ Club), and older cousin Kim Nam-hee (High Class).

The next question asks for his nickname in school, to which Jung-ho brags: “Monster genius, sexy brain man, crazy memory, and face genius.” It cuts to an appalled Yuri, who remarks, “Are you kidding me?” We then swiftly move onto the next question: “The reason you suddenly quit being a prosecutor three years ago?” But Jung-ho declines to answer.

The teaser comes to a close on the question we’ve been waiting for — about his ongoing crush on Yuri. As we watch a quick sequence of their recent encounters, a frustrated Jung-ho just sighs, “I thought it would be okay if I didn’t see her for a long time. But it’s starting to get hard again these days.”

The second teaser starts in the same way, with captions asking for name and occupation. Our heroine replies, “I’m Kim Yuri and I work in the public sector as a lawyer.” We get a look at her fierce tactics in the courtroom and her colleagues happily celebrate when she resigns from the firm. She scoffs as she explains, “I hear that people in the industry call me the queen of defeat? It’s ridiculous.”

The interview then moves onto her over-the-top fashion choices. Although Yuri declares not caring about other people’s opinions, she’s disappointed when Jung-ho calls her top a Joseon-era straw mat. We next jump to the big question about dreams. Yuri explains how she wants to make law services more accessible, and create comfortable consultations that are easy to understand for everyone. Hence, her dream to be a (law) cafe owner.

Finally, the captions ask about her relationship with the landlord and Yuri rants, “The jerk is supposed to be my friend. But instead of helping me like he should, he keeps avoiding me!” In the accompanying sequence, we see Yuri trying to follow a reluctant Jung-ho who does eventually meet her to deliver the lease papers. The teaser then ends on Yuri’s question, “By any chance, do you know why he’s avoiding me?”

Directed by PD Lee Eun-jin (Happy to Die, Chief Kim) with scripts by Im Eui-jung (One Night), KBS’s Love According to Law premieres September 5 in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

Most Traumatic Cafe Drama should be a category at the beanie awards.

Your optimism amuses me, as will your eventual crushing disappointment.
I'm joking... mostly.

I'm of the opinion that Lee Seung-gi can single-handedly save even the worst of scripts - or if not, at least breathe life in it for a certain period of time. Although whether I'm referring to Vagabond or Gu Family Book (or making a tangential reference to Ziggy and Cafe Minamdang) will depend on your point of reference.

I guess this means I'm in.

At least Lee Se-young won't lisp her way through the part unconvincingly while sporadically throwing her hair as a distraction from her acting.

*ducks*

I will defend Vagabond as a good drama to the end. (Then at the end it is an INCOMPLETE drama 😅 curse your lack of resolution, Vagabond 😢).

You do you, Beffels. You do you 🤣
Honestly, the fact that Vagabond did not actually end is still a source of mirth to me even now.

It’s my hill and I WILL DIE ON IT 😂

I’ve given up on a season 2 ever happening so I will just have to accept the whole thing is a giant flashback loop 😅

I loved Vagabond so much, lol. I am still sad at the way it ended. For me, it was so bad it was good. Nothing made sense in that drama, but it worked.

I enjoyed it a lot while it was airing. We had so much fun in the recaps. The whole thing was just such a glorious mess, culminating in its epic non-ending.

Kocowa’s “Coming Soon” list.
Episode one airs Monday, Sept. 5.

Wow! Kocowa is actually getting something that isn't a daily drama or weekender, and a big name one to boot. That's surprising.

Very classic friends to lovers... I like that they fit into their roles very well... we have seen them in similar roles before and we know it's gonna be easy for them... at least the acting.
The plot and execution, that is another story. We will have to give it a try...

Did anyone else see Lee Seung-gi with the dog and think, no, dog get away? Hopefully this doesn’t end up as a serial killer mystery/romance with the ML being a serial killer….
