Han Ji-hyun and Bae In-hyuk dazzle in blue in SBS’s Cheer Up

A new video teaser has dropped for SBS’s upcoming campus drama Cheer Up, giving us our first look at our underdog story. Centered around a college cheering squad with a long history that’s now in danger of being disbanded, the drama mixes rom-com with a dash of mysterious intrigue to keep us on our toes.

Han Ji-hyun (Penthouse 3) plays the role of bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Do Hae-yi, a fresh new recruit on the cheerleading team. Here, she meets cheer captain Bae In-hyuk (Why Her?), who plays the idealistic and principled Park Jung-woo.

The squad’s vice-captain, Tae Cho-hee, is played by Jang Gyu-ri (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay), and fellow new recruits Jin Sun-ho and Joo Sun-ja are played by Kim Hyun-jin (Can You Deliver Time?) and Lee Eun-saem (All of Us Are Dead), respectively.

The short video teaser opens with our heroine Hae-yi, who quickly ties her hair and adjusts her shirt before jumping into training and practicing cheers. There’s always time, of course, for some shared moments with Captain Jung-woo. But we don’t know (yet) who Sun-ho is gazing at through the window while he stands outside in the rain. In the intermittent text screens, we read: “The most radiant and heart-fluttering story of the season.” The video then closes with our cheerleading team performing their best on the stage.

Directed by PD Han Tae-sub (Stove League) with writing by Cha Hae-won (VIP), Cheer Up premieres October 3 in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

I read the premise and thought they need the man from Hot stove league to turn it round so maybe that’s what drew the Director to this story too. I am going to have to test out the level of mystery but I think it’s going to be too much and I will follow through the weecaps.

Baek In-Hyun in a new role! Will he get the girl this time?

Fortunately, I can't be worse than his role in Why Her?.

Well, I guess people complained about too many law dramas, so here we are.

Stove League!!! Ánd it's giving Sassy Go Go vibes which was worth a rewatch. After Why Her this is the right drama for Bae In-hyuk and his dimples.

Kept waiting for someone to mention Sassy GO GO aka CHEER UP! It's all I remember when I see the title

For a cheerleading premise, I expected a bright, popping color scheme, so I was surprised by the misty blue tones (maybe it's refers to the growing pains the characters undergo). I hope it's a light watch, and Han Ji-hyun could flex her skills as a leading actress :)
