Jang Dong-yoon, Seol In-ah, Choo Young-woo

  • KBS has lined up a new melodrama called Oasis, starring Jang Dong-yoon (Search), Seol In-ah (Business Proposal), and Choo Young-woo (Once Upon a Small Town). In a coming-of-age story that takes us back to 1980, we follow our main trio as they pursue their dreams over the course of a decade until 1990. Slated to broadcast early next year, PD Han Hui (Hospital Ship, Radiant Office) is attached to direct with writing by Jung Hyung-soo. [News1]

  • Over on MBC, the cast was announced for Ildangbaek Butler (roughly translated), which includes Hyeri (Moonshine), Jun (a.k.a. Lee Jun-young) (Let Me Be Your Knight), Song Deok-ho (Link: Eat, Love, Kill), and rookie Han Dong-hee (The One and Only) among others. Slated to broadcast this coming October, the fantasy romance will be co-directed by PD Shim So-yeon (Welcome 2 Life) and PD Park Sun-young with scripts by Lee Sun-hye (20th Century Boy and Girl). [MBC]

Clockwise: Hyeri, Jun, Han Dong-hee, Song Deok-ho

  • Meanwhile, JTBC continues casting for Sacred Divorce with Kim Sung-kyun (Grid) now joining Jo Seung-woo (Sisyphus) and Han Hye-jin (Let’s Hold Hands and Watch the Sunset) in the lineup. The webtoon adaptation is slotted to air in the first half of 2023. [News1]
  • An offer has been made to Kim Hee-ae (A Couple’s World) to star in a new political drama called Gust (roughly translated). Written by Park Kyung-soo (Whisper, The Chaser) and directed by PD Kim Yong-wan (If You Wish Upon Me), casting is currently in progress with plans to start filming towards the end of the year. [Sports Kyung-hyang]

  • Beautiful new posters have been released for tvN’s The Queen’s Umbrella, featuring our forever queen Kim Hye-soo (Juvenile Justice). Also starring Kim Hae-sook (Tomorrow) and Choi Won-young (Golden Spoon), the black comedy sageuk will be bringing us their version of a Joseon royal family in October. [News1]
  • JTBC dropped new posters for The Empire (previously The Empire of Law) as well, along with the second teaser, and it looks like both Kim Sun-ah (Secret Boutique) and Lee Mi-sook (Let Me Introduce Her) are having a lot of fun with their roles. The melodrama co-stars Ahn Jae-wook (Mouse) and will premiere on September 24, following The Good Detective 2 in the weekend slot. [JTBC, News1]

  • With the premiere now just a few days away, a new poster has come out for KBS’s The Law Cafe, featuring our main quartet back in their high school days. Starring Lee Seung-gi (Mouse), Lee Se-young (The Red Sleeve Cuff), Kim Seul-gi (Find Me in Your Memory), and Oh Dong-min (Memorials), the romance premieres this coming Monday on September 5. Why is 1 is set in 1980🤦🏽. Oh please. Not Youth of May -esque. Something fluffy. A fluffy melo, not a sad one. Seol In-ah. Okay. This one is game!

I'm really excited for 2. Sacred Divorce 🤤🤤. 2023 pali pali pali!

This'll be my most likely first Kim Hee-ae watch. Blindly watching this while trusting what I heard about A Couples World.

No Moonshine antics, Choi Won-young.

Come over to Viki it’s a great place to be for a reasonable fee, quality subbers (shame they are not paid) an excellent range of new and older dramas, they have their own specially made for them which cover the genres and they keep their dramas for ages unlike Netflix. What’s not to love? (exploitation aside🙁).

I've seen people say this sort of thing a lot and I just want to put my point of view out there. I don't get why people hate on viki for not paying their subbers. The subbers are volunteers, not slaves. No one is forcing them to write subtitles. They do it because they want to. I, myself, have volunteered as a subber a few times because I thought it would be fun and a good way to practice my Korean. If the volunteers weren't happy with the arrangement, they simply wouldn't sub and Viki would have to change their model. But as long as the current volunteer model is working so well, why would they want to pay subbers?

Its a great point I guess without the subbers they would have a fraction of their viewers so whilst its a voluntary service there are lots of dramas/films that don’t get subbed because there are no volunteers. These could be covered if there was a payment being made.

I am actively watching 7 dramas all on Viki (1 recent Chinese, the rest Korean 4 currently airing and 3 older ones.) I have another 17 partly watched some that I dip in and out of the rest well and truly on hold for the indefinite as so many new ones are coming out or are more my genre. My current favourite is the 2017 fantasy rom com The best hit/Hit the top which is exactly what I love about warm & fuzzy Korean dramas.

Haha yes! I plan to unsubscribe from Disney+ (after Adamas finishes) and head over to Viki soon. Good Job, Law Cafe & Love In Contract are high on my to-watch-list. I’m getting tired of all these thrillers atm and desperately need something light & fluffy!

I adore The Best Hit, weaker points and all. It was the show to introduce Yoon Shi Yoon to me. Thank you, show.
Also, some of the best out-of-time gags in any drama.

Seems like to make my Viki subscription worth again 😅.
Even though with that luxury, I still don't watch it enough 😭😓 (couldn't keep up when you are WFH's mum and daycare of your own 😄).

Sounds like real life keeps you busy 😊 dramas come and go with their little boosts of joy but watching a baby grow that’s entertainment on another level.

1. Jang Dong-yoon and Seol In-ah in an 80s period drama? This sounds more like something I came up with in a daydream than an actual drama that is real. Now all they need is a happy ending.

2. Lee Jun-young has finally escaped the idol-playing-idol curse. Unfortunately, his co-star is Hyeri, whose acting leaves much to be desired.

3. The title cracks me up. Even if the potential cast is amazing.

4. I see another possible Baeksang for Kim Hee-ae…

5. Kim Hye-soo. Kim Hae-sook. Choi Won-young. Black comedy sageuk. This is everything I ever wanted.

6. Haven’t seen Kim Sun-ah in anything in a while so I might just check it out for her even if the premise doesn’t excite me.

7. So incredibly ready and excited for this to FINALLY come out. I needed this, like, yesterday

Oasis looks good. I like both actors and the PD.

I'm not a fan of the actors for Ildangbaek Butler. So I will see.

The Queen’s Umbrella already looks great just with these posters!

The Law Cafe doesn't look very original but with these actors, it can be really fun!

LOL the first thing that came to mind when I read "Ildangbaek Butler" was Mei-chan no Shitsuji, so I had to look it up. Now I'm disappointed cause it's not ;P

2. I love Kim Hye Soo but will pass this. It is a Sageuk.
3. And The Law Cafe in on Viki. Yay!

I cannot express how happy I am to see Jang Dong Yoon's name again in drama news. I don't care what he is in, I am just relieved he is coming back.

The Queen's Umbrella sounds like a satire of the education of the young elite and of helicopter mothers set in Joseon. They mentioned a university only 1% of society can enter (hello Sungyungwan).
