Drama viewership ratings for the week of Oct. 24-30, 2022

This week we say goodbye to The Law Cafe, which ended without the characteristic finale bump we’re so used to seeing. Meanwhile, our weekend ratings remain in flux, with One Dollar Lawyer airing only once, giving more space to other shows on other nights. Oh and Under the Queen’s Umbrella has hit double digits.

Additionally, some Sunday episodes this week were cancelled due to the tragedy in Itaewon over the weekend. Sending our thoughts and prayers to them. ♥

Haven’t seen any of the on-airing dramas, but it seems like the Korean audience prefers some actors over the others? It seems like Nam Goong-min, D.O., and the lead actress of Under the Queen’s Umbrella are the public’s favorites as their projects are doing particularly well compared to the rest.

Nam's show is super inflated - weekend drama with that rating - better to cancel it - rich teen always attract attention - good appeasement is done so yeah expected. Rest is pretty much what they deserve.

I wonder if this weeks ratings reflect the awful events over the weekend so are not really a true reflection of interest in the shows. I am really surprised that Law cafe did not get increased viewings as they read the memo that all rom coms need a wedding and did it in a style that fitted the characters.

I wonder if Mental Coach will pick up to end, if Golden spoon will continue to decline and if Queens umbrella will hold it’s big jump.

I am sure the tragic events in Seoul over the weekend have had an affect.
The ratings for UNDER THE QUEEN’S UMBRELLA are reflecting a split personality. For the first 3 weeks (six episodes) the Sunday ratings make a large jump over the Saturday ratings. I am sure there is an explanation and it may involve sports programming but I have no idea.
Saturday’s ratings: 7.649%, 6.980% and 7.751%
Sunday’s ratings: 9.062%, 9.471% and 11.285%.
Congratulations UTQU breaking into double digits.

And there is no Nam Goong Min to battle with.

Under the Queen's Umbrella overlaps with One Dollar Lawyer and The Golden Spoon on Saturday. That's why the ratings are lower on Saturday.

That explains it.

I don't understand why the law cafe ended with the ratings it did. From what I understand, shows typically end with higher ratings on the finale day and that didn't happen here. Even if the show wasn't a 7 or 8% show, it was at least 5.7- 6.4/6.5 (am I being too generous? Should I say 5.7- 6.0? Haha)

One Dollar Lawyer will be postponing its' episode this week. A good opportunity for The Queen's Umbrella to boost its' ratings as Golden Spoon too will not be on air too.

Cheer Up, May I Help You, and Love is for Suckers will all be postponed this week. I won't be surprised if more dramas will not air.

I'm surprised Curtain Call went ahead and premiered.

Me too, especially since it was just a premiere and not a finale like Mental Coach Jegal.

Still very disappointing ratings for LOVE IS FOR SUCKERS and for GAUS ELECTRONICS, both deserve much better.

THREE BOLD SIBLINGS has turned a corner dramatically and has become a true family weekender, but it may take a while for weekender size audiences to come back.

I read many networks were criticized for their breaking news coverage of the Itaewon tragedy. Reporters were asking inappropriate questions to first responders to airing unblurred video of victims lying in the street. During a national week of mourning, entertainment usually suspends operations like k-pop idols not issuing new music, hold fan meetings or promotional activities like press conferences.

I wonder if networks treat cancellation of variety show episodes easier justification than dramas.

What do networks - especially non-news-oriented ones - air during the time slots that would normally be occupied by shows that have been postponed?

I think all networks have some news departments. I do not know what they are doing in this situation, but when I was in Korea I noticed that networks and cable operators had a lot of talk shows and specialty channels (real estate investment & apartment values; Go tournaments; business and stock investing).

If anyone needs to be criticized, it's the South Korean government for not managing crowd control and shifting the blame to the victims for pushing.

Terrible events over the weekend, accidentally watched some video and wish I hadn't - a nightmare! Deepest sympathy to all families and friends of families who lost loved ones. A completely unnecessary tragedy.
