First look at Alchemy of Souls 2 in new teaser with Lee Jae-wook

Long time no Wook! Finally, tvN gives us our first peek at the rest of our Alchemy of Souls saga. With a month to go before Part 2 premieres, I’m hanging on by a thread. (Also, let’s be real and call this Part 2, not Season 2.)

In our teaser, we see our favorite mage Jang Wook (Lee Jae-wook) looking fierce, and shot mostly in gorgeous silhouette. He narrates: “I didn’t die back then. I’m someone who shouldn’t exist.” His narration is intercut with some epic fight scenes, and we see Wook shouting, which merges with the rest of his narration: “If my power is justified, no one will make it out of here alive.” He glares at the camera. This teaser is already 11 out of 10 for epic Hong-level drama, so I’m a happy camper.

Though Part 2 continues our very cliffhanger-y story which aired its finale this past summer, the production has already warmed (warned?) audiences up to the fact that the character of our beloved assassin Mu-deok/Naksu will see some more soul-swapping as Jung So-min is replaced by Go Yoon-jung.

It’s a risky move — even for the Hong sisters — and while I’m crossing all my fingers that they pull the rest of this story off in a way that blows our minds, I might be a little nervous, too. On the bright side, the rest of the cast from the first 20 episodes remains solid, so we can rejoice in seeing our Daeho crew again (and a few new faces as well).

The final 10 episodes of Alchemy of Souls premieres on tvN on December 10.

Uk-ie anyeo.

I'm expectant and estatic about the melancholic tone part 2 will take. I'd also like it if they preserve the humor of part 1 to the letter. Can I eat my cake and have it?

TvN's Twitter implies Part 2 occurs three years later.

(This looks like tvN's official account, but I'm not sure.)

I was expecting a bit of a gap because the characters look so different, but three years is a good while. I'm incredibly hopeful, but we'll have to see.

@elinor: I wonder how those 3 years will be explained/depicted? Hmmmm.

The way part one ended, there is no reason for a 3 year story gap - - - the chaos needed resolution then and there.

As for explanation, I have little hope for a logical one. Incubation in the magic waters? Wook to become fully fused in his new god-like powers?

I'm beside myself in anticipation, as well as a good dollop of apprehension that they don't mess this up!!!!

I haven't watched part 1 yet. Waiting to see how part 2 pans out and the overall response to the change in actresses first, before I commit myself and risk emotional trauma because part 2 tanks the ending or something.

It seems more dark and violent (an homage to the Potter series).

I'm going to watch it but my daughter won't saying it's ruined. We believe there's no way they can right the major fiasco of having mu doek turn savage after controlling both souls all this time. To replace her is heart breaking & the twist they used didn't work for us. But I'm willing to watch for the sake of her & the other actors who really brought this to life! Still, not what a fan of Alchemy of Souls wanted to see. I hope they can truly surprise me, otherwise it would be such a waste of my energy & commitment!
