News bites: November 5, 2022

Seo In-gook

  • It’s been a casting bonanza this week and reports have Seo In-gook (Cafe Minamdang) considering a new sageuk called Handwritten. Based on a popular novel by the same title, the mystery-action story is set during the Joseon era and follows our hero as he tries to recover his lost memory and true identity. [Xports News]

  • After rumors were squashed back in April, Kim Soo-hyun’s (One Ordinary Day) agency confirmed that the actor is now officially on the casting table for Queen of Tears, the newest project by writer Park Ji-eun (Crash Landing on You). If he accepts, this will be Kim’s third time working with Park after You From Another Star and The Producers. PD Kim Won-hee (Little Women, Vincenzo) is attached to direct. [Dispatch]

  • With Netflix’s upcoming Gyeongseong Creature set to premiere in the early half of 2023, the production announced that a season 2 is now in the works as well. The period thriller stars Park Seo-joon (Itaewon Class) and Han So-hee (Soundtrack #1), with Kang Eun-kyung (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 2) writing the scripts and directing helmed by PD Jung Dong-yoon (Stove League). [Dispatch]
  • Speaking of Kang Eun-kyung, the writer has also been busy with season 3 for Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim and we got news that season 2’s cute side-couple Nurse Kim Min-jae (Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist) and ER doctor So Joo-yeon (Seasons of Blossom) will be returning to reprise their roles in the third season. Alongside writer Kang, directing remains in the talented hands of PD Yoo In-shik (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 2) as well. [News1 (1), (2)]

  • Lee Jia (Penthouse 3) is in talks for a new JTBC drama called Until the End (roughly translated). With production still in discussion, details regarding the drama’s story have not yet been released. In the meantime, Lee Jia has been busy with filming for tvN’s Lady. [Star News]
  • Kwon Yul (Mental Coach Jegal) has been added to the cast of I Have Waited a Long Time for You, joining Kim Ji-eun (One Dollar Lawyer) and Na In-woo (Jinxed at First). The crime-mystery has PD Han Chul-soo (Again My Life) at the helm and is currently in the planning stages. [JTBC]

Love Seo IN Guk and his acting. But his last drama Cafe Minamdang was the first drama of his, that I didn’t finish. Even Doom I enjoyed to some degree but the last one was a complete dud and the first time where I thought he had no chemistry with the female lead. The King’s Face is also his only drama that I didn’t watch, because I am not man in to sageuks. So, I will have to wait and see.

I am excited to see SIG in talks for mystery action instead of romance. I won't be getting my hopes up too much for the plot. For me his last 2 dramas were only watchable to see his face. (His new movie I'm waiting to stream so I can again focus on his face and not the gore)

Handwritten. I don't know what piques me more, the title or Seo In-guk starring in a Saguek again.

2. Well CLOY's praises are known. Anything to see the kind of directing in Little Women again.

5. Wow! Lee Ji-ah is busy. This better be as solid as Lady.

6. Kwon Yul ✅. Again My Life PD in another crime mystery... I'm not so confident.

I just want to see SIG in a good drama... At this point, I don't care about the story anymore.

I loved Kim So-Hyun in Producer! The writer, the PD and him, only good reasons to watch it.

Why they are adding second seasons everywere? They can increase the number of episodes 16 to 20 or 24. But I really wonder if they have a story for a whole full second season.

Dr Kim 3, it's nice to see the casting of the team being back.

Kwon Yul out of his usual mean-looking suit. Excellent KY pic @tccolb even though he probably is cast as a bad guy once again.

O/T. To see the humorous/comic side of Kwon Yul check out his performance in the sageuk HAECHI (2019) (Viki US). He was great cast against type if you will. Teaser: There is a wonderful scene of him pawing all over Jung Il-woo.

"Queen's Tears" sounds like it has the potential to be an epic drama.

I thought I'd watch SIG in anything, but gave up on Cafe after just two episodes, so I hope this new project is well written.

I had no interest in another installment of Doctor Kim, but if KMJ is in it, I'll have to give it at least a couple of episodes. I hope it's not quite as formulaic as the other two.

I was hoping we have a sageuk in the making but today I found a couple of online references to ‘chaebol’ with QUEEN OF TEARS.

Like you, I assumed it's a sageuk. That's a little bit of a bummer then.

RDTK!! Definitely gonna watch Season 3. Hope they maintain the good, healing vibes of the show.

Kwon Yul looks real fine in that pic. Rarely see him sleeveless lol. Would like to see him play in fun, charming, non-villain roles.
