Premiere Watch: Summer Strike

Time slot: Monday-Tuesday
Broadcaster: ENA
Genre: Slice-of-life
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: The reasons to watch this drama practically write themselves, if you ask me. A young woman (Seolhyun) escaping from her dead-end life to frolic in the countryside and enjoy her life. A shy librarian (Im-Shi-wan) with whom she strikes up a friendship. Now normally, I would be the first person to complain that this drama was pre-produced and set to air in November when it should have been broadcast in the summer… but in this case, I actually think it’s the perfect breath of fresh sea air, sunshine, and sweetness we all need right now.

TL;DR: Slice-of-lifeness, Im Shi-wan as a librarian, beautiful scenery, summer vibes in November

I so hope this lives up to my hopes and doesn’t devolve into a mess/absurdity. Just a lovely and gentle introspective drama. That’s all I ask! (Asking too much?).

I think there is a little mystery but I read it didn't take a big part of the story.

I can say there's a bit of a mystery in the webtoon. No murder, except for the one that happened in the past. Just some people vandalizing the building where she's staying at. I can't say for sure if there won't be a murder mystery in the drama because the director added and changed some things. Like in the webtoon, Daebum stuttered to everyone, not just to strangers but they changed it in the drama.

This is also what I hope for this one. I can’t believe staying true to the genre has proven to be difficult for many dramas!

I am still confused what genre this is going to be Viki still says romance, thriller and suspense, Wikipedia says melodrama, Asian wiki has nothing but tumbleweed.
All the trailer and preview write ups say healing and slice of life, so a safe watch for me. I will be upset if there is a random thriller element thrown in midway when I am invested and don’t know whether to stay or go.

Since I don't have a paid subscription for v*k* I thought i will miss this show, but then i saw the promo on my cable that they'll air this drama on Tues-Wed nights, starting tomorrow, yeay! looking forward to watch this as my comfort show.
ps: the picture of grass as the backdrop for the pic above, bringing summer vibe to me as I can remember reading books and having my lunch outdoor in the summer during my time in Uni with grass as my carpet :D

I have definitely been looking forward to SUMMER STRIKE (Viki US). Along with others the use of the descriptive terms ‘Thriller & Suspense’ on Viki US raises some concern. I tried going to original webtoon I DON’T FEEL LIKE DOING ANYTHING to find a synopsis in English that might shed some light.
SP0ILER ALERT:
I found this source for the webtoon with an English description of the story. The tv drama may not hold true to the original. So if you want to go in with NO preconceptions skip this link:

A pleasant surprise for me in the cast is the appearance of sweet little Woo-joo (Kim Joon) from HOSPITAL PLAYLIST (Jo Jung-suk’s son). I am sure he will be a scene stealer lol. Can we hope for JJS cameo?

Thank you so much, finally it makes sense for the tag, shame no one else is mentioning this element as a few people may be like me and want to be prepared. That description will make this a no for me to live watch and I will wait to see if there is a reasonable explanation for the thriller elements that make it safe to watch and fast forward through ‘scary’ parts.

The synopsis reminded me of the show- When the weather is fine. There are similarities in set up.I don't mind it though, I would like it to be companion show for When weather is fine - One for winter and one for summer.
