Would You Rather #4

In dramaland, leading ladies often find themselves torn between the love of two equally attractive men — a choice none of us would want to make! But what if you did have to pick between the frustrating lawyer and the adorkable police officer? In this weekly feature, we ask you to make the difficult decisions — and we aren’t limiting our options to dreamy oppas.

Vote via the poll and feel free to use the comments to explain exactly how you were able to choose! So, Beanies:

WOULD YOU RATHER #3: RESULTS

Well, I’m not sure if I successfully made the options more difficult to choose from, but the results are closer than they have been in the past. I guess that counts for something! I also noticed a slight uptick in comments that seriously weighed the consequences — both in the real world and in dramaland — to having either face blindness or amnesia.

For those of you whose logic was more grounded in dramaland, like @leetennant, the obvious pick was amnesia because you will eventually reap the benefits of becoming “fake-married to your soulmate while inheriting your doppelganger’s fortune.” Yeah, if that’s the upside of having amnesia, then sign me up, too!

But even if we ignore the infinite K-drama possibilities, there were a lot of you that were extremely uncomfortable with the idea of not being able to see people’s faces. Amnesia, according to @enriquequierecagar and @bekbekzor, would be a lot more manageable once you got used to it. In fact, the clean slate might even get rid of some unwanted memories — especially if you were one of the 70% who, two weeks ago, voted in the Would You Rather poll to dance in front of your crush while wearing only your undies.

However, there were a surprising number of you who either personally experience face blindness or know someone who does! And those of you with more real-world experience on the matter, such as @nejsu, saw amnesia as being — hands down — the worst option, especially since (surprise, surprise) the reality is not nearly as scary as dramas make it out to be.

If they’re gonna stay in character and make me choose between GongYoo and Lee Dong Wook, that’s impossible! I can’t choose between my first love and the ultimate oppa, there’s a very fine blurred line between them *wrings hand in drama anguish*

So assuming it’s not them, i choose Goblin cos how does one have a life with the one who takes it away?

P/s This reminds me i have to comment on the other post about otp reunion.

I picked a grim reaper because I imagined Kokdu sending bad people to the afterlife haha
I know he's not "technically" a grim reaper but he's the only character I've watched who deals with death.

I don't even know what a goblin is (aside from maybe a troll like thing?)

If the choice is between these two specially, I chose the Goblin. He was alive and he had nice powers. And he's Gong Yoo obviously.

In a general way, I liked the Grim Reapers in Tomorrow, they looked good in suit but LSH looked so great in his big occasion costume. But technically, they're all dead, in a tragic way. The same for 49 Days.

Shame on you being limited by whether somebody is alive or not. How necrophobic. Dead people deserve romance too!

Between grim reaper and goblin? Lol I don't know.

A hundred percent agreed.

Dramaland tend to prettify its fantastical creatures. If the choice was between Gong Yoo and Lee Dong-wook, I'll simply choose with my eyes closed, because either man is a fine specimen.

The problem is I'm not sure "real" goblin and grim reaper would look like even a 10% of either of them. Not to mention the fact that they might have horrid personalities and very very questionable moral, which would be nothing like tame k-dramas make us believe.

Unless "goblin" here means Goblin King (you can easily guess which one, there aren't many of them to begin with), I'm Team Grim Reaper (it's a total black uniform and dark edgy aura, ok?). And if the choice is between those particular two, I'm team Nope To Both, sorry)))

Dokkaebi (Korean: 도깨비) are legendary creatures from Korean mythology and folklore. Dokkaebi, also known as "Korean goblins", are nature deities or spirits possessing extraordinary powers and abilities that are used to interact with humans, at times playing tricks on them and at times helping them.

Korean Reapers are known as something called a Psychopomp which are creatures, deities or beings who's job is to guide newly deceased souls to the afterlife. Their role is not to judge or kill a soul but simply to guide them.

I guess the "safer" bet is to date a Goblin and keep your life than go with a reaper whose job is to take you to the afterlife, which really is not dating, is it?

Taking into account what you wrote, Goblin seems to be the more interesting choice.

The relationship with Mr. Grim Reaper will obviously be a very conventional one, with you waiting for him to come home everyday from work/guiding souls to the afterlife, which also means shift work and weekend/holiday duties. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but with time it might just be a bit boring.

Goblins seem to be masters of their own time and fate and can therefore take you with them on their adventures.

;)

This was the first one that I legitimately struggled with. If I knew who/what they were ahead of time, there's no way I would choose to be involved with either of them - waaaay to much heartbreak involved, and I am not a person who has ever been able to date someone casually.

If we're choosing between this goblin and this grim reaper, I'd have to go with Gong Yoo. I like his smile better and his coat collection is honestly inspiring.

There are a few other grim reapers in Dramaland, but I have not heard about another goblin...
I'm choosing grim reaper, in the hope that I can help him choose the persons to take off.

Gong Yoo will always be the one and only Goblin. So, it's a resounding YES to picking Goblin.
Reaper is a bit grim/dark. I don't need a daily reminder of my impending death.

Between generic goblin and generic reaper: goblin. More prospects for survival and unexpected foreign vacations.
Between this Goblin and this Reaper: Goblin, for Gong Yoo, but Lee Dong-wook would be a perfectly acceptable consolation prize.
Between frustrating lawyer and adorkable police officer: I'd shave my head and join an all-female commune before I'd voluntarily put up with either. Although if the adorkable one was Jung Hae-in ...

Not even Gong Yoo's face can make me date the Goblin.
And for grim reapers... I choose 444 from Black. I love that guy. He was hilarious and SO bad at his job. 🤣

Hmmm... I was tempted to pick Grim Reaper at first, but then I started to weigh up the implications in the Goblin universe. Grim reapers are part of a big institution, essentially salarymen, and spend a lot of their time constrained to doing seriously depressing work. What if they brought the stress home with them? It could be exhausting to date them. Moreover, there's a very real threat that they could recover their mortal memories and realise how they died. Basically, if we're just talking "dating" (as opposed to being in a serious loving relationship where some emotional labour would be expected), it would make sense to see someone more fun with all the free time in the world. The Ddokaebi can do whatever he wants!

As far as I can see, the Korean afterlife mostly involves a great deal of paperwork and while this means fantastic libraries and studies, it just sounds depressing.
Goblins don't seem to have the same bureaucratic responsibilities.

On the other hand, the definitive source on supernatural creatures, Wikipedia, says that goblins eat buckwheat jelly, sorghum and red bean rice cakes, which would make choosing a restaurant for a night out nearly impossible, and probably guarantee that most date nights would be spent reading at home. Might as well go with the well-stocked library.

He can drive me to the restaurant, watch me eat a delicious meal, drink my body weight in wine, nibble on some sorghum if he chooses and then drive me home. Good company, designated driver, and not going to steal my food.
I see no downside here.

Also sorghum is gluten free and I see no lactose in his diet either. This could definitely work.

Assuming the Grim reaper and goblin look like exactly like that and have similar powers/abilities/personality, I pick the goblin.
1. Gong yoo
2. Summoning powers
3. Doesn't grow old, but old enough so that you can call him oppa for a good while
4. Don't have to feel nervous about staring into his eyes
5. Subscription package is for 4 whole lives, not just one

I don't know, I keep thinking about his teen Queen. The poor girl got the sharp end of that epic love story, in their first incarnation together. At least he had the excuse of being a teenager himself in that life - but if Lee Dong-wook and getting shot full of arrows on his orders are a package deal, I'll pass.

Yeah, he was a bog coward. He killed her, the soldats... and then killed himself.

When she reincarnated, she couldn't forgive him completely and kinda punished him by being far from him and punishing herself in the process... She had to wait 2 lifes to be happy.

I think this Grim Reaper and grim reapers in general (see also the Tomorrow team) are great– love the fashion forward attire, sarcasm, interesting work stories, etc. But I feel like it would put a damper on the relationship if at some point I’m on the receiving end of a knowing look followed by a name card and some "forget your past" tea. No thanks. Would love to hang out periodically and shop for flattering black pants, but at the end of the day I want to go home to this Goblin who will, know doubt, have my steak dinner on the table.

I'm going with the grim reaper as I think a goblin is more probable to be of a wasteful and morally corrupt nature seeing as they are too rich to care which would lead to all kinds of a makjang relationship.
I'd much prefer a shift working guy on his way to redemption, especially if he looked like Lee Soo-hyuk.
