Would You Rather #5

In dramaland, leading ladies often find themselves torn between the love of two equally attractive men — a choice none of us would want to make! But what if you did have to pick between the frustrating lawyer and the adorkable police officer? In this weekly feature, we ask you to make the difficult decisions — and we aren’t limiting our options to dreamy oppas.

Vote via the poll and feel free to use the comments to explain exactly how you were able to choose! So, Beanies:

WOULD YOU RATHER #4: RESULTS

I was honestly a bit concerned that last week’s prompt was too straightforward — especially since I couldn’t resist putting Gong Yoo and Lee Dong-wook as our examples. Surely it would turn into a popularity contest, right? And with such iconic leading men giving a face to the goblin versus grim reaper debate, I totally wouldn’t fault anyone for making a decision based solely on their preferred flavor of arm candy.

But, Beanies, you surprised me with your thoughtful — and well researched — selections, and your comments had me laughing out loud! The thread between @frabbycrabsis, @leetennant, and @hacja was particularly amusing because they really got into the minutiae of what their daily lives would look like if they actually dated either a grim reaper or goblin. Together, they came to the consensus that the grim reaper’s profession is far too, well, grim, which puts him at a major disadvantage against the likes of a goblin, who not only has a well-stocked library but dietary restrictions (according to Wikipedia) that make him an excellent dinner partner and designated driver. Plus, as @bogumlips also pointed out, there’s the whole instantaneous traveling thing that absolutely must not be.

Then again, if you are just choosing based on aesthetics (no judgement here!), grim reapers have a better track record for being the best dressed. Not to mention, as @gikata commented, they have an undeniably appealing “dark edgy aura” thing going on. Plus, you know, that tea room (if we’re talkin’ The Lonely Shining Goblin)…

No matter which way you voted, it was fun to see the results be an almost even split! I wonder if we’ll see the same happen next week?

I'd take the hotel if it comes with a very much human and very much terrified manager.
Also, the library. And beach.

It's a hard one!

Manwol's hotel was great and she was rich. She had nice powers too.

But I don't want to be immortal, so I pick the exorcist!

Ji-A's style was more my style. She was kinda rich too.

Finally a question to really ponder on! Let's see... I'm NOT good at socializing (and if you've had the opposite impression then I deserve a good pat on the head for all my hard work), but decent at investigating and ass-kicking, so exorcising ghosts sounds more fitting than serving and pleasing them as customers... until we're getting to the "selling freshly un-haunted houses to people who are still very much alive" part. Sales are veeery low in my list of dream occupations and living people are just SO tiring... I'd rather have to deal with dead ones - at least they usually only have ONE big issue to solve in order to move on, while breathing potential buyers not only come in masses but also want thousands things at once, not always display any logic in their expectations/demands and even after all that stress there's still no guarantee that you'll successfully make a deal. Human factor, you know. So ghost hotel wins, and I'm cautiously optimistic about making it profitable - even if mainly by the fact that I am not a spendthrift like Man Wol.

I voted hotel, mostly because I don't want to deal with real-estate hassles.

But if I were good at real estate and that home improvement, I could have the best of both worlds by getting rich enough on haunted-house sales to buy the stupid hotel and pay someone else to manage it.

Either ways it'll be the death of me.
Do you mind a recommendation letter? It'll be a flowing one.

This time I’m choosing purely based on the brief rather than the actor because even if I could be half as amazing as Jang Na Ra, I am a scaredy cat, so in lieu of trying to get rid of ghosts, I’d probably do better coexisting with them. Also, I’m more likely to give something away than to sell it, so managing a hotel it is! Come for the frequent giveaways and free upgrades! Honestly, managing a hotel sounds kinda fun (if I don’t need to worry about profit) except the bit where I’d have to watch people I grow to care about aging and dying, century after century.

Manage a Dead & Breakfast or deal with Ghostly Fixer-uppers?

Neither is appealing if I, a human, is not in control of either situation.

This was a tough one for me- but in the end the superior amenities of the Hotel won out.

There's a certain attraction though to doing the exorcism, selling the house and then going home. Real estate can pay more and give you more free time. Running a hotel is a 24/7 job even without the ghosts.
Although if what you're doing in that spare time is stabbing teddy bears and trying not to be possessed then maybe a hotel gym and pool makes it worth the ongoing crisis.
Hotels around my area have library bars and let you get Ubereats delivered to your room. Yeah you're probably right.

Ummm I watched neither of these dramas and while I can watch thrillers, paranormal stuff scares the hell out of me. Maybe that’s why I couldn’t finish both THE MASTER’S SUN & HWAYUGI, and I completely skipped HOTEL DEL LUNA. It’s not that these dramas scare me per say but the scary ghost make up is so on point that when I try to sleep, those are the only images I see. And I deal with enough insomnia thanks.

So yeah I’ll never ever watch THE GUEST!

With regards to the prompt I’m not going with any kdrama but with a British series GHOSTS. It’s a comedy and the ghosts are just annoying whiny brats. So basically like any other regular human, which I can deal with. I mean yeah I don’t particularly like having my privacy being intruded upon but would prefer that over demonic spirits thanks.

So I guess I choose the hotel or bed & breakfast filled with annoying ghosts than trying to exorcise them and resell the estates.

Will I be poor? Almost definitely!
No one is gonna wanna stay at a ghost filled hotel…
unless they are into that stuff…
which yanno maybe I can work with?

But will I still be alive? Yes!

And I’d rather live than thanks

I love Ghosts! That show is so funny and cute. I like the ghosts but I'm pretty sure I would go crazy if I had to deal with them personally. 😆

I choose the ghost hotel. So many amenities and it seems like the ghosts are nice for the most part. And you barely see Man-wol lift a finger except to go shopping. She owned all those cars. Ji-ah has to run around and work for it. I suck at real estate. When I finally bought my first and only property- a condo, I have resigned myself to just living in it until I die since I don't want to go through the hassle of buying and selling.

Ghosts are people, they're just dead, right? So I don't think I would get scared. And since I'm the manager I doubt I'll be dealing directly with the customers (I have no idea how hotels work and I dropped Del Luna, so tell me if I'm wrong).

I'm lazy and weak, can't fight, I would be scared as hell of all the evil spirits, and I'm not good at selling things, my social skills suck... Yeah, I don't think selling haunted houses and doing exorcisms is for me.

The hotel wins.

It's the ghost-filled hotel for me. The prompt doesn't actually say anything about being the immortal proprietress of the establishment, so I'm assuming I'd fill the human manager role and therefore wouldn't have to watch everyone I love die around me. I honestly think it would be really rewarding work to help people move on from the things they weren't able to let go of when they were alive, and I'm pretty organized, so I think I'd do well with the personal assistant aspect of the job too.

Exorcising ghosts from haunted houses sounds scarier, tbh, and I'm a bit of a wimp. Add to that the real estate aspect and I don't think it's a gig I'm very well suited for.

Not that it is the main part of my decision, but in the ghost-hotel situation, am I working under a certain mysterious, whiskey on the rocks drinking proprietor who is somewhat new to the business? Because that would also be fine with me ;)

I'd take the manager role at the hotel. Because the customers are ghosts, but nothing is said about the team. And I can stay in my office.
On the other hand, performing exorcisms is probably quite difficult and requires to talk to people. Also ghosts that are possessing or haunting are probably not very friendly or happy to see someone that will kick them into oblivion (or send back to hell... I'm not sure how this works). While ghosts-customers need or want something so have to be nice and behave well.

I don’t like hotels and life there would seem purposeless to me, always in limbo. I like houses and like the idea of bringing ghosts, their loved ones and the house owners closure. Real estate is lucrative and then I could go to my own house at night. I’m sure I could hire someone to handle the selling part.
Also Sell Your Haunted House is on my short list of favorite dramas.

I set Hotel del la Luna on fire and then endosolistrated it, and since I don’t think setting hotels on fire and throwing them into the sun is good for business, I think I’m better off just being Queen of Melonia. In which case, I will pick being an exorcist who sells haunted houses, and then send Thing 1 and Thing 2 to manage the side gig, since they’d be such very good ghost hunters, whilst I am busy running the country.
