[Beanie Recs] Human-ghost romances

Ahoy, Beanies! It’s time to gather your collective genius for a recommendation series that features you and your drama knowledge. Each week we’ll drop a drama conundrum and leave it up to you to provide a drama rec, and the appropriate rationale behind it, be it long or short. Respond below!

The nonsensicalness of the human-ghost romance in Delivery Man has got me wondering about other dramas that did this and how they handled or explained it (or didn’t lol). Do you know of any dramas that also have this kind of romance? I must investigate.

Have a very particular drama itch that needs scratching? In need of a Beanie Rec? Email us at hello @ dramabeans.com and we’ll feature your topic in a future post.

This one had a decently acceptable ending, but i always thought the age gap btw the leads made the chemistry slightly lacklustre because i felt like Taec was holding back a little bit (or maybe he just wasnt very good yet 😬😆)

Arang And The Magistrate. Arguably the best one in this niche, also a great sageuk fantasy with nearly perfect lore. They don't make them like that nowadays...

Never worked for me. Don't think it will. The only one I watched completely was 'Oh My Ghostess' (for Kim Seul Gi) but I always questioned the romance. Who did he fall in love?
I can get behind goblins, grim reapers and other mythical creatures etc.. But ghosts are off the table ; )

It’s the chemistry between the leads that worked for me, otherwise it’s just a story about a horny ghost.🤫

900 year old goblin dating, marrying, and outliving a schoolgirl in what is for him a blink of an eye and for her a lifetime? No, thank you.

There's also 49 Days, which I enjoyed (Lee Yo-won is always good), but it's no Arang.

No recs but if you’re a fan of Kim Jae Wook do not under any circumstance watch Who Are You 2013. He was a sadly underutilised silent ghostie which was a waste of his talent, and i recognised that even in 2013 when i didn’t give two hoots about him.

I believe A piece of your mind is a candidate.
What is a ghost if the idea of someone, an invisible presence ?
In this drama, Ha Won create an AI with the personality and voice of his first love that haunt him. As in a human-ghost relationship, they can communicate but not physically interact. And as in Oh my ghostess (the only other drama I've seen with such a couple) they require an intermediate to interact.

I really like the way you think! I didn't think of A Piece of Your Mind for this prompt at all before but you're so right about how it was a ghost-human relationship between those two, just through the medium of AI.

It's funny because in APOYM, the "ghost" doesn't to talk to Ha-Won. She only talked to Seo-Woo.

She did talk to him twice.

And also, she is still there while real Ji Soo is dead and for some time she doesn't know that she is dead. A very ghosty realisation.
