Gumiho Lee Dong-wook returns in Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938

Our yellow-eyed gumiho Lee Dong-wook (Bad and Crazy) has returned in a new season of tvN’s fantasy-action Tale of the Nine Tailed, and we finally get our first look in the moody new poster.

Picking up after the events of the first season, Lee Yeon’s (Lee Dong-wook) happiness is sadly short-lived as he’s somehow transported back in time to 1938. We then follow our hero’s journey as he tries to figure out why he’s been summoned to the past and how he can get back to his loved ones in the present day.

However, having once lived through this time period, Yeon will be forced to re-meet familiar faces, with the complication of knowing the future. One of the hardest, of course, will be seeing his half-brother Lee Rang – with Kim Bum (Ghost Doctor) reprising his role. Although Rang is alive in 1938, this version of Rang still has animosity against Yeon.

Newly joining the cast in the second season are Kim So-yeon (Penthouse 3) and Ryu Kyung-soo (Glitch), whose characters were once heavenly beings like Yeon. However, centuries in the past, the two were hurt by Yeon – each for different reasons – and the trio are reunited again in 1938, both as old friends and as foes.

With production continuing under the first season’s PD Kang Shin-hyo and writer Han Woo-ri, Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 is slated to premiere on May 6 in the weekend slot.

I have to say that I am scratching my head over this one.

I was expecting a sequel but not going back in time.
We spent 12-14 episodes for the siblings to reconcile. So we are back to square one????

Having said that, I would still watch this one. Hope there is enough action. Looking forward to seeing LDW!

When I first heard about this sequel I was completely thrown--the first season was fine, but nothing special, and it certainly wasn't a huge hit. I didn't care for the love story, either, even though I couldn't pinpoint exactly what was wrong with it. The drama definitely had great elements, though, including the always charismatic Kim Bum, witty dialogue, and a couple of fun twists. So I'm wondering if maybe this second incarnation will realize the potential of the first and thus justify its own existence.

I quite like the season 1, except the FL, I see zero chemistry between her and Lee Dong-wook and also it's too dark, I barely see the screen, why they making it like it's always night for the whole episodes, it hurts my eyes.

Lee Dong-wook as nine tiled is one of my fav after grim reaper so I really frustrated why he can't get best chemistry like he did with Yoo Inna.

Agree that the visuals were dark and off-putting. Seemed to me that LDW was reprising his Goblin role of grim reaper, but without Yoo Inna it didn't come off.

Hmm, I probably will check this out. I'm interested in the past setting and that Kim So Yeon is in it.

I can barely remember Tale of the Nine Tailed... I liked the brotherly connection. And I liked Hwang Hee's character. His friendship with Yeon.

I suppose now would be a good time to watch Tale of the Nine Tailed? I felt like I missed the boat with that drama, but here here's a good op!

It's been on my "plan to watch list" for a while. A few days ago I saw a big spoiler (unintentionally) but I still want to watch the drama.

curiosity killed the cat - now that you've told me you saw a big spoiler, a (big) part of me is like 'what was it' 👀

I love this going back in time concept, and I don't know why, but maybe that's because we already know our characters and now it would be fun to know more about them and possibly their past.

I’m so distracted by the extent of his plastic surgery/ies that I can’t watch any of his dramas. It is inconceivable to me how anyone could do this to themselves even if I’m trying to be sympathetic in case he has dysphoria.

No that I'm against getting more Lee Rang - never! more foxy bad boys in kdramaland pls! - but even the original show was nowhere near being good as a whole, so why even? Not to mention fanfic-like plot with random time-travel just to milk more the main selling point of franchise - turbulent gumiho bromance. Oh well, at least we'll see Lee Yeon getting his ginger ass beaten for being an irresponsible selfish jerk once again. THAT I can get behind)))

I believe this is following the model of the "Reply" series, where we'll get a bunch of random year shows--Nine tailed 1913, Nine tailed 1959 etc. Like the original, they will all be great slice-of-life nostalgia stories capturing the heartwarming adventures of a gumiho and his various historical communities.

I barely remember what season 1 was like and the OTP did nothing for me. Was it such a big hit for them to make a season 2? I am glad KB is back though because I still remember feeling how fascinating he was here. I’d still check it out I guess.

Completely disagree with some of the comments. The Legend of Gumiho is a favorite drama. I'm going to watch season 1 again. Even though I have watched it many times.I fell in love with Lee Young, who was played so brilliantly by Lee Dong Wook. For me, it was a beautiful fairy tale, full of secrets, stories of Korean folklore. Lee Young was adorable. Chemistry with Cho Bo Ah
made my heart flutter. I so wanted a happy ending for them. They deserve it. Graphics, OSTs, dialogues are beautiful. Songs are learned by heart. I really liked season 1. And I'm waiting for the continuation. I'm sure Lee Young will find a way out, despite all the difficulties and stepping over people who want to harm him and put spokes in the wheels. It is very interesting to know more about Lee Young. As well as new characters. I'm looking forward to it!
