Premiere Watch: Duty After School

Time slot: Friday
Broadcaster: TVING
Genre: Sci-fi, action, thriller, youth
Episode count: 10 (Part 1 + Part 2)

Reasons to watch: If you like your high school dramas with blood, terror, and CGI, Duty After School might be right up your alley. Taking a page from the success of All of Us Are Dead, Duty After School looks at the microcosm of a high school during a worldwide alien invasion. Though the kids are still in school and worried about their education and college specs (huh!?), they’re also conscripted to serve in the military to, you know, save the world. We’ve got a bunch of fresh faces in the cast, the PD from Class of Lies (which is definitely saying something), and the source material was a webtoon by the much-loved author that created The Sound of Magic.

In terms of releasing and streaming schedules, TVING seems to be playing around quite a bit, having taken some cues from Netflix with their other productions. And sure enough, Duty After School will be in two parts, with Part 1 (the first six episodes) releasing March 31 and Part 2 (the concluding four episodes) releasing sometime in April. Or at least, that’s what it looks like they’re going to do.

TL;DR: All of Us Our Dead, alien invasion version?

seems like it might have satire because why not include part time jobs at a cafe... life as usual, just a little pest problem

I momentarily had forgotten this show was airing soon and coincidentally today's weather - very rainy, wet and cold - made me think about All of Us Are Dead earlier (which I watched snuggled up in bed one very rainy afternoon/evening so it's a memory imprinted deeply in my brain) and how I wish there was another show with a similar premise that I could watch right now/was in the mood for!

Looks like the universe has lined things up for me - hoping it's available on Viki in my region and I can stay in bed and watch over the weekend!

Ugh I don't like the 2 parts split thing, but wouldn't part 2 lined up with part 1 in april without much break anyway?

Might check this out.... April is too packed though. XD

Oh wait, nvm. I assumed the episodes would air 1-2 episodes on Fridays, but part 1 was released all at once.

I am here for Shin Hyun-soo (a favorite of mine) and young Moon Sang-min who was so good as Grand Prince Seongnam in tvN’s UNDER THE QUEEN’S UMBRELLA (2022) (Netflix US).

I liked the 1st Ep. enough to continue watching. I don’t know most of the cast.

Ok Ep 2 is a blood and guts episode, I hope the rest of the series isn’t, as it loses the shock value and then becomes boring.
