Meet the characters of Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938

The promo train is on fire for tvN’s upcoming sequel/spin-off (ish) drama Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938, and hot on the heels of the first teaser is another poster, this time featuring the whole crew. *Waves*

Returning, of course, is our broody gumiho hero Lee Yeon, played by Lee Dong-wook (Bad and Crazy). After surviving hell and high water in the original drama, he’s meeting more mayhem this time when he’s mysteriously summoned back to 1938. It looks like the drama is going to have a lot of fun with this particular setting, and so am I!

Also featured in the new poster — arguably most important here — is Kim Bum (Ghost Doctor) — with dramatic locks and a villainous overcoat! He reprises his role as Rang, but what with Yeon’s time-slipping the two brothers are going to have another complicated relationship (I mean, why not do the whole thing again, right?).

Other characters revealed are the fire-holding guardian spirit Chun Moo-young — played by Ryu Kyung-soo (Glitch) — and the guardian-spirt-turned-restauranteur Ryu Hong-joo, played by a glam Kim So-yeon (Penthouse 3). I can’t not love anything that she does, so yay. But even more yay: Hwang Hee and Kim Yong-ji are also reprising their roles as well.

With a lot of fan expectation and additional lore on the table — and writer Han Woo-ri and director Kang Shin-hyo both returning — it’s going to be a long month of promos before the drama finally premieres on May 6.

All characters are superb in their own way. But I guess the only authentic characters from S1 will be Lee Yeon and Shin Joo. All others are either completely new or with a different personality/character. I’m curious more about mountain gods past and who has summoned our hero to the past. On top of that I want to see love and hate relationships between Lee Yeon and Hong Joo. I can already picture how she’ll be haunting him. And of course how Lee Yeon will be teasing his childish bro. And how they have improved CGI. Anyway, eagerly looking forward.

I don't really want to see Rang's turnaround. His arc was nice in the first season.

I like Hwang Hee's new haircut, what was the cute vet in the past?

Lee Dong Wook slays as Lee Yeon. I’m curious to see what he will bring with him to this new season. New emotions, new passion, new power for Lee Yeon? And what will be his weapon instead of my beloved sword?

Wow, Lee Rang looks so metal - from hairdo to that axe))) What happened to you, darling? Belated teen subculture phase? Side gig in YA vampire show? Can't say I'm very happy with the styling, expected way more sleek befitting the era. This looks off for half a century at least fashion-wise.
Idk what Shinjoo and Yoori are even doing here, but I hope their original dynamic will be kept.

The only human character in the poster is played by Kim Yong Ji. Yuri will not be in this season. Shin Joo will travel in the past with Lee Yeon and he will meet look alike Yuri. They will be just friends.

Writer really loves this lookalikes thing, huh? Being immortal in this universe seems to be a very confusing existence - always meeting familiar faces with different souls attached left and right)))

I love the poster, I love the cast, especially our brooding but cynical and witty hero Lee Yeon. What I don't want to watch one more time is whinning and childish behavior of his bro. It was enough in season one. So I hope that Lee Yeon, knowing what bro did to save his life, will surpass kid's anger and help him to overcome his childhood complexes and trauma...and they'll work together to beat enemies like they should. Looking forward to one-sided love story of Kim So Yeon's char to our sexy gumiho. As well curious how they'll use Jo Bo Ah's cameo.

Wow! Lee Yeon looks so bossy. He’s like a head of a supernatural gang. Reminds me of Peaky Blinders mixed with Avengers. And he looks so Tommy Shelby, but with that gorgeous red hair of him. So hot!🔥

All I heard is Lee Dong-wook and Kim Bum and I'm sold! This is so my kind of story to forget my reality for hopefully 16 episodes.

That red dress and shotgun in the poster might as well include the banner 'We're fishing for Hotel Del Luna viewers!'

I dropped S1 because of the romance but this one sounds and looks interesting. Sign me up.

I was probably not in the mood or maybe I did not like the show as I dropped S1 after one episode. However I did watched other similar themed dramas and one I cannot forget is Nine Tailed Fox (Forbidden Love) 2004 drama. I got to know Kim Tae Hee from the show, what a lovely actress and probably the reason I continue watching other Korean dramas. I really enjoyed the OST from that drama. Maybe I should watch S1 again and the upcoming S2 of Tale of The Nine Tailed 1938.

Sleek! I guess I'll have to quickly finish the first season. I hope this one is less of a repetitive mess.
