More bad agency news. Last August, singer Chungha told fans, "I want to quit the agency. Please take me out." She just released a new album (the first part of a double album release) but the agency failed to promote it, update her social media accounts and made mistakes on press releases. She is a very popular singer with a good track record. But after seven years, MNH seemed to drop the ball.

The agency has confirmed that her contract will expire at the end of April. “We ask for the fans’ generous understanding in regards to the fact that ‘Bare&Rare Part.2’ will not be released under our agency due to internal circumstances.” It is unknown whether Chungha will be able to release the rest of her album under another label in the future. (Note: it depends on who owns the master recordings and copyrights which could be the agency/label). During her time at MNH Entertainment, Chungha released two studio albums, four mini-albums and multiple singles. Some believe the agency did not release the second LP as a means of trying to make her renew her contract with the agency. Why do agencies think treating artists like trash will make them stay?

According to a Sports Seoul report, agency Uzurocks has asked around ten employees to resign due to management difficulties. Other employees are also said to be leaving, citing that the agency “Has no future.” Employees alleged that staff, managers and talent have not been paid for two months. For the managers of celebrities, the situation is even worse. According to the report, managers have not been refunded for expenses incurred for three months.

Sports Seoul stated that they had reached the agency’s CEO, Park Joo Nam, who lives in the US, several times, but that they weren’t able to reach him. The agency has made no official comment to the allegations. Can a company ghost itself? The agency represents many artists including Song Ji Hyo and Ji Suk Jin.

The agencies have too much power. I don't like how they can force an artist to stay with them but won't promote him/her. They're very opaque about how they handle the artist's gain too, the distribution, etc.

There were a certain number of scandal for actors when the date for resigning their contract approached.

I finished Warm on a Cold Night! Maybe because I binged it the writing did feel a little repetitive towards final stretch but the leads and cinematography stayed strong. What a pretty and sweet ending also! I somehow became a WayV fan thanks to this drama - the ML being a C-pop idol led me down the C-pop route which somehow took me back to K-pop (kind of, technically??) with WayV. It’s funny because I was already an NCT127 & Dream fan so I guess I just took the long route to properly discover another NCT subunit.

Speaking of K-pop, it feels like April is going to be a great month for comebacks. Mark's new solo just dropped, along with a new Suga x IU track and there's a Seventeen album, a Golden Child Japanese album, KARD single to come, amongst a whole host of others! I love collecting albums for groups/solos that I really love but unfortunately the shipping charges to Aus & mark-up makes collecting a really expensive hobby. Plus now that I know how cheap it is to buy in SK, I'm even more hesitant to press the buy button. Maybe it's time to keep a list and pack an extra suitcase to carry all those albums for a trip to Korea again one day.

I wouldn't consider my self much of a shopper usually when I'm home but gosh SK has so much cute/cool stuff that I felt like I needed to have packed 3 extra bags to buy everything I wanted to buy! That's why I'll make sure that the next time I go, I make a proper shopping list and maximise the amount of kgs I can bring back 😂

I just saw the Baeksang award nominations and it brought teary mixed feelings. The competition is stiff, and my faves are against each other in almost every category I look out for in drama.

Ha Yoon-kyung's nomination in both film and drama. Wow👏🏻👏🏻!

But, I'm surprised The King of Tears, Lee Bangwon didn't make the cut. It was really good.

I only have two faves in there for best actress. The one that has me in confusion is Best Actor Category. I've got 4 there, save for Big Bet. Same with Best Drama, save for The Glory.

I'm looking forward to who gets Daesang this year.

How could Park Ji-hoon not be nominated for Best New Actor in Weak Hero Class 1? He was a revelation in the drama, especially in the last scene of episode 1. Hong Kyung's nomination is like when Nam Yoon-su was nominated over Kim Dong-hee in Extracurricular, except we all knew why.

The Daesang is Lee Sung-min's to lose. He carried Reborn Rich, and when his character died, so did the drama. For the remaining Best Actor nominees, I'm rooting for Son Suk-ku, who became the only reason that I finished My Liberation Notes.

Although I didn't like Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Park Eun-bin is a shoo-in to win Best Actress.

I hope that The Glory wins Best Drama, and as much as I loved Imo-nim Yeom Hye-ran, my winner for Best Supporting Actress is Lim Ji-yeon.

I'm seriously rooting for My Liberation Notes. I'm very happy they got into many categories.

I know it’s an unpopular opinion here but personally I found Hong Kyung’s acting and performance more impressive. Of course all 3 of them acted very well, and Park Jihoon was transformative for sure. It was not an easy role to play with minimal facial expressions but still needing to convey the character’s feeling.

But personally HK’s role was even more nuanced, layered, and difficult to play. His performance was not only natural but he truly became the character without any sign of “playing a role” at all. He delivered the twisted and confusing emotions extremely well. For me, he was the true MVP in the drama. Plus, I know there are quite a lot of people would confuse the characters being annoying and unlikable to a bad performance. Not all villains - but these types of turned on the main lead’s back characters are especially easy to get biased, more so than true villains.

Now, that you mention it, I don't know if I ever found his character annoying or unlikable but rather frustrating. It was like an outside you can understand why he was acting that way but it was SO frustrating seeing him being that way and destroying everything around him over something that objectively (was so petty in the grand scheme of things.

There must be some eligibility thing I’m missing, because Seo In-gook is nominated in the “Best New Actor” category for film for Project Wolf Hunting, and he’s been around for years and it’s his third Korean movie.

I've only seen two of the dramas with nominations in any category (My Liberation Notes and Crash Course) and none of the movies. I already knew my tastes didn't overlap much with those of the Korean public or critics.

Korean award shows classify you as "new" if you had not been nominated before for their award.

Actually that’s not true. They count your drama and movie lead roles separately. Typically it’s around 3-4 important roles in movies/dramas respectively and then you won’t be considered as new. Seo in guk hasn’t done enough movies to classify him further from “new actor” in the film section.

Neta boy - as expected - plan is working now

PAK - imran - cricketer to politician to pm to present

maco boy - juggling well but better go for election before May 2024.

didn't talked about him much - huge huge rallies for more than 6 months, making supporters go against army, creating atmosphere of foolish supporters - as said earlier he did an awesome job - Still batting shows his performance - he's charismatic but quite short views too.
Standing against the army in such a volatile state - played the biggest game - everyone is a loser in this game but the one who losses most is the common man aka the citizens - not the privileged wealthy upper class.

CHAOS - high level, real time entertainment it is - everyone is aiming at each other - every institution is trying to one up each other - everyone see a big opportunity here - everyone wants more power - because of this fighting things have become fun - CHAOS it is - I'm enjoying the popcorn.

IF it 4urns into Air force vs. Navy vs. Army - then it will be amazing.

Let's see how things go - it won't be more chaotic than this.

Most powerful king - most powerful female - always always comes from a male driver social system, especially works well in asia - Also add wealthy upper class family. powerful not means good.

I said before elections duterte need to make his daughter president - well she became vice president.

Trump didn't do much for Ivanka - ivanka ok ok.

Kim jung-un sister powerful - n making his daughter - wife an outsider - not ur own blood

Thailand - not good bro-sis pair to have earlier bro-sis pair.

India - one major bro-sis pair

Pak - vice president of party that can become future pm

There are more but not much important one's - Except merkel what we have - yes yes

gender is like winning lottery - said in 2022 - but most influential and powerful can only come from a rigid social system.

So, I decided to watch last 6 episodes of “Call it Love” marathon and couldn’t resist the temptation, I ended up watching episode 11. I want to share my opinion in this forum because I determined to not watch any further the next episodes and save myself from any spoiler.

Anyway, oh my. The sweetness that come from them realizing their own feelings toward each other is as bitter as what will have come unto them. It’s so painful to watch Woo Joo bears all the burden alone regarding their ill fated relationships, but what really terrifying is the time when Dong Jin will find out. I don’t see how his world wouldn’t falling apart when he knows the whole truth. When he asked Woo Joo to stay overnight, part of me so happy with her nods, but the other part is wishing Woo Joo to stop taking any step further without telling the whole story because I know the more they are involved, the deeper their wound will be.

I wish his mom is dead. She is just beyond redemption by human standard. I can’t even see how she can save her from herself.

I would love to whisper into the ear of Woo Joo's mom: "Your husband loved her best and left. Wouldn't the best revenge be for her son to love you best?"

I saw this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sfUPoZiwkkI
And it made me wonder where do people draw the line? Like there are so many "scandals" and yet when genuinely problematic issues arise, there's all these justifications and rationalizing.

Recently, one of the groups on Peak Time had to leave the show because at some point in the past, one of the members was photographed with Japanese porn star. Don't know how old the picture in question is, don't know if they are still friends/aquaintances, don't know if she's even still a porn actress and yet him & his group just lost this opportunity and whatever possible future opportunities. These guys are currently in their 30s.

The video kept showing Kim Heechul though they didn't mention anything about him specifically and it made me think of how like last month or so, he was caught up in something because he went on a drunken tirade and some time after that it was something about swearing & going to clubs. Heechul is damn near 40 but aside from that, it seems his brand is that he is kinda unfiltered, almost a "bad boy" of Kpop.

This issue with the shirt is so.. sigh
Like (a) it's not even an American thing so why did one of the people defending her say "America isn't the center of the world"? For South Korea to have such a focus on academics, clearly there's some falling through the cracks. (B) are there really *NO* people who know anything about anything? Like there's no one to say "that shirt is offensive" or "maybe rethink this outfit?"

That symbol had been used for thousands of years by native peoples and religions as representing the sun and good fortune. But the appropriation of it by Nazi Germany changed its meaning and how it is viewed across the world.

My point is where is the line? People judge and criticize *everything" nowadays.

Regarding the shirt, it's possible/plausible to not know because I once wore a shirt that had a KKK symbol on it and didn't know. I bought the shirt in a black store, in a predominately black neighborhood and I didn't even notice it among the other things on the shirt. It wasn't until my sister said "isn't that *that* symbol" that I knew about it. And I never wore it again. How is it that NO ONE pointed it out to her when she wore it the first time? SOMEONE should know about that symbol.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

Real life in its human form has been posing as a lurking Beanie on OT. I am going with that until I figure how I always end up eating my words after posting here!😂

I had a wonderful time last weekend when my friend stayed over and we attended a mutual friend’s theatre show and a convention together. It was a happy ending to crazy March, and it should have been the start of a calm April as well. I got myself into some serious trouble by typing that last part on OT last week.👀

Real life misunderstood my statement as a challenge and readily accepted. I had hoped to merely endure some more and count down the days until Saturday, but I crashed due to sensory overload yesterday. When I said sleep deserved to become a priority this week, I certainly had something healthier in mind. Sleeping in on the weekend became first aid overnight. Fingers crossed I am awake by the next OT!🛌

Recently noticed the exact same crocheted items (pillow on couch, afghan on wall) in different dramas & this made me laugh. I like to crochet & that's probably why I paid attention.
I also like to knit & I enjoy the sweaters in Kdramas. Sometimes I take screen shots to figure out a pattern or remember a color scheme.
Characters seem to have a lot of coats. Most people I know I have one winter coat, but in k-dramas, the leads have many. Often very beautiful wool coats. I've thought about drawing them, to keep track, but my adhd laughs at this idea.

“ Character seem to have a lot of coats.” I always noticed that and think it’s so funny, especially if the character is struggling financially ha ha. I noticed in The Real Has Come the trending color is brown- brown overcoats, brown suits, brown jackets, brown sweaters. various shades from cream to brown tweeds, which I actually like. I think it’s hard to find a good brown in clothing. Anyway, like you I’m intrigued at the number of coats people in kdramas have. 😊 🧥

Sooooooo many coats, and a tiny apartment with no closet. Or they take a trip with one suitcase and still have a different coat each day. I love that! Such a crackup.

Oh! We should have a Beanie Question Time for the show w best/most coats. I nominate Weightlifting Fairy.

I love the men’s coats on K dramas. For ages a blue coat was stuck in my head and I couldn’t remember where I had seen it but eventually found it in Yumi’s cells 2!

In the recent weekender Three bold siblings there was a scene where both actresses had variations on cream outfits as if the stylist liked the range and couldn’t work out which of the options to choose so went for all of them😐

Yes, I just noticed the same couch blanket on Be Melodramatic and Tale of the Nine-Tailed. It was a funky Navaho Indian pattern. Also in both of these dramas was a rainbow colored bust of an antlered deer head. Set department needs to double-check the props list!

Hey Beanies! I miss y'all! But life is being life which is a synonym for gross. Life is being gross. Jackson Wangs concert is in 26 DAYS and I can't find a soul to go with. I'm at an orchestra concert tonight with considerably fewer people than will be at Jackson's show and my anxiety is through the roof. I have 26 days to find someone to go with me and it is looking GRIM. Sad. Face. Maybe next time he'll come to a city I live in and I can get someone to go with me. But we'll see. I highly recommend not getting anxiety if ever you have the choice.
I haven't watched a drama in ages. I've been watching things I don't have to subtitle for. I've watched the Newhart show 3 times in a row since January. It holds up and it's easy. I hope lovely things are happening in all of your lives! And good drama, of course.
