Swordfights and dapper suits in Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938

tvN certainly isn’t easing up on the promos for the second season of Tale of the Nine Tailed, but am I complaining? Not at all! The latest teaser is stylish, suspenseful, and action-packed — exactly what I came for.

Reprising his role as the surly but good-natured gumiho Lee Yeon, Lee Dong-wook (Bad and Crazy) opens the teaser with an ominous line: “Someone has trapped me in the past.” Befitting a world where supernatural powers run rampant, there’s barely a day of peace in Yeon’s life — after the mayhem of the first season, more chaos is already on its way.

This time, Yeon will find himself inexplicably time-slipping back to the year 1938, where he’ll come face-to-face with an old flame. Kim So-yeon (Penthouse 3) plays the former guardian spirit, current restauranteur Ryu Hong-joo, who greets Yeon with an amused smirk: “It’s been a long time, fox.”

Effortlessly swinging a broadsword while dressed in a lacy white frock, Hong-joo certainly isn’t one to be trifled with. She’s equally stunning in a traditional hanbok, fending off two blades at once. Yeon has his work cut out for him if he wants a shot at taking her down.

Of course, Hong-joo won’t be the only frenemy Yeon goes up against. No gumiho tale is complete without a dash of fraught family relations, and the blast to the past means that we’re getting our bickering brothers once more. I’m certainly excited for the return of antagonist Lee Rang — Kim Bum (Ghost Doctor) plays mischievous scheming so well!

Sipping a glass of whiskey and sporting a fresh undercut, Rang drawls sarcastically, “Hyung, you aren’t dead yet?” (Nooo, where are his beautiful long locks?!) Between Rang and Hong-joo, one thing’s for sure — conflict is coming, dressed to the nines.

With writer Han Woo-ri and director Kang Shin-hyo both returning for this sequel, we can rest assured that we’re in good hands. Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 premieres on May 6, and it looks like we can anticipate more promos in the meantime.

Yes. I'm usually all for messy long locks, but it didn't impress me on Kim Bum specifically, he's too much of a classy and polished guy looks-wise.

Okay, why is this already way more interesting than anything in the original show?

This.looks.amazing! Hopefully they will keep at least part of this pace for drama itself. But I guess they will, since it’s 12ep drama. I believe, the biggest problem of such dramas are dragging a plot to fit it in 16eps. I liked Season 1, but I guess here they will give us what they have originally planned for S1: k-fantasy action thriller. And this time I hope they will balance everything, will have better CGI team and Netflix to deliver it to international viewers. Btw I’m sold to Lee Yeon - Hong Joo chemistry. I know romance won’t happen, but the tension is real. And I really really love the fashion they have chosen for our lead and his frenemy.

Yesss to the swordfight action!!

Excited to see the tension between Yeon & Kim So Yeon's character! Maybe even more than the brotherly one.

Even much more for me. We have already seen brothers in season one, so nothing new actually. But here, we have something fresh. Not often you can see in kdrama such set up between male and female lead.

Like most, I can’t wait to sword fights and tension between Lee Yeon and Hong Joo. Lee Dong Wook is very good in creating chemistry especially with mature actresses. And really curious who and why has trapped our hero in the past. May 6, come faster

I think this premise and cast matches better to the initial idea of such show, especially our leads Lee Dong Wook and Kim Seo Yeon. They have such power and charisma when they are alone, and when together. And that scene with a blindfold...

So I have a question, I'm curious, don't judge, please. If the LDW character and KSY character happen to kiss or have a Loveline, is it considered a betrayal?

I doubt they will have an actual loveline since he has already the beloved one and it was said that foxes fall in love once in a lifetime. I guess they will have tension and maybe some sort of flirt from her side
