Junho and Yoon-ah invite us to stare in King the Land

The first teaser has finally landed for JTBC’s King the Land, showcasing the story’s smoldering eyes chaebol hero Junho (The Red Sleeve Cuff) and hotelier extraordinaire Yoon-ah (Big Mouth).

In an opposites-attract rom-com, our hero Gu Won (Junho) is the boy who has it all. But his environment has made it difficult to find genuine connection with others, making him adverse to people’s fake smiles.

Enter Chun Sa-rang (Yoon-ah), who is known as the “smile queen” at work who always tries to give her best customer service smile. Cue the clashing and sparks of love.

Suffice to say, smiles – or stares I should say – are the focus of the new teaser, generously providing lingering shots to take our time with the pretty. My skeptical side is squinting real hard to find some kind of story in the clip. But the other side simply says “Junho” and clicks replay.

In the intermittent text screens, JTBC acknowledges the fan-service, saying, “This is the pairing of Junho and Yoon-ah that you’ve been waiting for,” and predicts that, “The magic of love is coming to save you.”

Although not yet featured, the cast also includes Sa-rang’s friends and staff members of the wider King group enterprise, including Go Won-hee (Love to Hate You), Kim Ga-eun (Under the Queen’s Umbrella), Ahn Se-ha (The Heavenly Idol), and Kim Jae-won (Stealer: The Treasure Keeper).

With scripts by Choi Rom and PD Im Hyun-wook (Reflection of You) at the helm, JTBC’s King the Land premieres on June 17, following Doctor Cha in the weekend slot.

It's been a while since I have seen Jun-ho (last was JBL, and I liked him in that).
Don't know what to expect, but I will be tuning in.

Invitation accepted.

Sort of relieved to hear that they just wrote Yoon-ah's "customer service smile" into the story. I haven't seen her in much, so I'll give her a fair chance, but her smile has always struck me as slightly off. Here is a reasonable explanation!

I have only seen her in ‘Love Rain’ and it didn’t make an impression.
I didn’t think she had much potential. May be things have changed since.

I wish he hadn’t chosen this. It just seems such a boring plot and his costar, ahem. I am honouring my pledge not to badmouth actors. Trying really hard.

I'm racking my brain so hard on which drama that involve the female lead and actually finish watching it....sadly none 🥲. I think mostly she is bearable in film, but no idea about drama much.

THIS. MAN.

I was on the fence about this drama, but the chemistry in the trailer has me counting down the days until its release.

Hum... This teaser is giving nothing about the story just about how beautiful are the actors :p

I'm not a big fan of them, none of their dramas really let a big impression on me but I like them and overall I'm so ready for an old classic rom-com!

I've found that even when the drama ends up falling short, Junho's performance never disappoints. Looking forward to see his version of the rich chaebol stereotype, I'm hoping he'll bring something fresh to the table.

I'll give it a try only because of Junho, but the teaser has not sold it to me. It's a perfume advert.

Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if it showed the image of a perfume and its name/brand (Junho's off-voice) instead of the title of the drama 😅

All that pretty but still not sold with the OTP. But will check a few eps and maybe they will bring back the old rom-com with a touch of 21st century flavour.

Junho should not be running in slow mo and smiling/laughing at the same time. Didn’t work in TRS and doesn’t work here. His mischievous face gets contorted for some reason and that’s not in anyone’s best interests!😂

I just realize that’s what I’ve been doing as well. I’m that desperate to have Junho on the screen. As much as I want him to choose other drama this genre is safe, ahjumma loves 2000s romcom, and it will be broadcasted on Netflix. The exposure will be great for his future.

I like Yoona in The King Loves, so finger crossed.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a sucker for cold male leads, especially when they're chaebols. I am very much looking forward to this.

I can’t say no to Junho, and I just hope this turns not into a train wreck. I’m all for an old school romcom with Chaebol meets Candy, but so far I don’t see any chemistry between leads, so sorry. Hopefully when we get second teaser from Sarsng point of view, it will be better… but not seeing a single expression on Yoona’s face… well, I keep saying to myself it can only get better.

We’re very much holding on the little faith we have on Yoona.

You know what, I think I’m just bitter that we got glimpses of Junho and Kim Tae Ri’s chemistry at Baeksang Art Awards. And just a few days later we got this ad like teaser where there’s no sparks seen. My head is full of what could’ve been.

I'll always say yes to a SNSD x 2PM collab. 😆

Big Mouth and The Red Sleeve were really big dramas, so I guess it would feel a little awkward if this show gets really bad ratings.
Anyway, I hope it's fun. I wish both of them the best.

This seems like a vehicle one takes when their agent tells them they need to prove they can be a romantic leading man. But Junho has already proven that sufficiently, at least in my opinion.

That said, I want to enjoy this precisely because I enjoy him in romantic roles. However "Red Sleeve" was too sad for me to really get swept away by the romance, and I'm one of three people who didn't care for "JBL" (not to take away from the greatness of his performances in either). So I'm hopeful this one works.

Can I be Yoon-ah for the next few months, just while this is filming? But how to look into those smoldering Junho eyes? Or how to not melt into his arms when he catches you (maybe its ok to melt into his arms, right?) I feel like its been ages waiting for this one to start! I love Junho and quite liked Yoon-ah in The Mouse.

They have been filming since the end of August and they haven’t finished yet. Makes me worry on how much the story can change because… 9 months for a 16 episode drama… a rom com?

I've been wondering the same thing. It seems like an awfully long time to film a drama. I'm just glad it's finally time for teasers and trailers because I am not a patient woman when it comes to waiting for a new Junho project.

I have watched only one drama of each lead. Red sleeve where Junho was able to hold himself against Lee Deok-hwa. I still remember confrontation scene with dragon screen. That was something else.
I can't say same about Yoon-ah though. Last drama of hers I watched was K2. For entire drama I shipped male lead and antagonist.
It's mixed bag for experiences for me but I am optimistic about this drama.

I hope they are not just selling visuals of leads but really do have a solid script and interesting plot that's what really matters for a romcom. Junho is quite dominating in the teaser, I wanna see more energy from Yoona whose character is supposed to be lively personality? Haven't watched any of her drama before so I don't want to judge too early but I hope she can hold up the intense stare from Junho more in the teaser.

Not too into the teaser, but since this is a new scriptwriter and Junho has signed on, so I'm sort of curious.

This drama does seem like the sort of romantic kdrama - especially with the cold rich guy and bright girl set up- that other asian countries really liked importing during the 2000s era of the Hallyu wave. It's interesting that at some point, viewers got tired of that set up, so it became a little less common. And now we look forward to seeing a throwback to that setup.

Just thinking that if you live long enough, trends come back. Early 2000s fashion is also coming back again.
