Premiere Watch: Delightfully Deceitful

Time slot: Monday-Tuesday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Crime, comedy, revenge
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: This drama already looks like a lot of fun, with Chun Woo-hee in her element playing a wild scam artist with a team of misfits behind her and zero attention paid to people’s feelings. People’s feelings, you say? That’s what our hero Kim Dong-wook is all about, and I’m loving in the K-drama stereotype inversion here: our heroine is the cold one wreaking havoc, and our hero is the one that’s hyper-empathic and running around mediating. And, you know, defending said heroine in court to get her out of jail time for her most recent scam. Though the setup of the drama feels rock solid, the tone is less certain, but with the “comedy” label added in there amongst the “crime” and “revenge” sides of our story, here is hoping for a loud, fun, and unique drama that keeps us holding on for dear life.

Also starring are Sojin (yes!) and Yoon Park (double yes!) (but also equal amounts of no on that wolf haircut) in addition to the team that works with our heroine. In conclusion, there will be no shortage of character interest here, which seems about right for the PD of Shooting Stars.

TL;DR: Revenge-seeking con artist Chun Woo-hee x lawyer-in-his-feels Kim Dong-wook

I had to google a wolf haircut but having done it, the name makes even less sense now than before.

Please be good. It'll be nice to watch a drama for something more than being a fan of the actors.

You got that right! Let's have both great actors and great drama!

Oooh another Kim Dong Wook drama in the Mon-Tue slot and he's playing quite different characters personality-wise. This should be interesting. And after just finishing Bora! Deborah we get more Sojin straight away. My brain might hurt trying to keep all these characters separate but I'm a pro-kdrama addict..... I've got this.

So happy to get more Sojin straight away!

I will definitely give this a try, but I'll have to wait until after My Perfect Stranger (Kim Dong-wook) and my ongoing binge of Be Melodramatic (Chun Woo-hee) are over and I've gotten a little further past Bora! (Sojin) because much as I like all three - and Yoon Park! - my poor brain will NOT be able to keep their characters straight. 😵‍💫

'Wolf haircut' seems to be shorthand for 'less of a mullet than you feared but more mullet than you really wanted.'

OK, OK. I’ll ask. I’ve tried to be fond of Be Melodramatic…were you grabbed instantly? If not, how many episodes in? I really was put off by the trauma of the set-up.

I watched it to the end, and still didn't like it, if that helps.

It grabbed me right from the start - but I went in having heard it has lots of funny stuff, so I was willing to be patient. What I didn’t know is that the whimsical oddball humor is exactly my style and I love it so much I don’t want it to end. I could totally see others having a different take. There’s lots of sadness scattered across the later episodes, too, but it doesn’t dominate the way it does in the beginning.

After whatever episode the cringey guitar playing and singing occurs in - maybe 3 or 4?. I hung in because so many Beanies loved it and very glad I did.
However, after 3 tries, I still hated Signal. So whatever floats your boat.

A check of Netflix, Viki, Hulu, Kowcowa, Amazon and IQIYI do not show this streaming in the US. Is it going under a different name? So many dramas I want to watch are now not streaming in the US.

On MDL, the only legal site mentioned is VIU which is not available in the US. Maybe it will be available later in the US.

I don't know what's legal and what isn't on the internet. I assume if nobody's been arrested it must be legal. It would be *cool* if I knew so I could then watch my favorite *drama*.
