For the first time in a decade, the streets of downtown Seoul will host a procession of tanks, fighter jets, and other advanced military assets, the South Korean Ministry of Defense announced. South Korea used to hold a military parade every five years for Armed Forces Day, but in 2018, amid efforts to de-escalate tensions with its northern neighbor, former President Moon Jae-in swapped the usual march of tanks and munitions with a more celebratory ceremony headlined by a k-pop concert.
The last time the country staged a military parade was in 2013. It will take place on Sept. 26 to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the country’s armed forces. But it’s more than just a commemoration. The display of might coincides with escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula. North Korea regularly holds military parades. Its most recent, and third of the year so far, was held last week and was attended by the country’s leader Kim Jong Un as well as delegations from Russia and China. As Pyongyang seeks to bolster its partnerships with Moscow and Beijing, it has also ramped up its aggressive rhetoric and weapons testing. Earlier this week, while Kim met with Putin in Russia over a suspected arms deal, North Korea launched its 20th missile test of the year.
This shows a change in diplomatic direction for SK. It always put an air of uncertainty when one pokes one’s enemies, especially crazy dictators with missiles. But as I often tell people, the Korean War never ended; it merely had a cease-fire agreement.

I wish South Korea and Taiwan could have stronger ties because they share so many similarities: both are still technically at war (Korean War and Chinese Civil War). Both get threatened on a regular basis by North Korea and the PRC and live with the possibility of being attacked on a daily basis.

Weather - It's hot - why so - It's September - Autumn - It should be cool - naaah - It is time to make records - September surely is joining earlier months. Let's see if October turns out to be Autumn or not.
Rain - yes - because of sea as simple as that - more coming in next few days - but even that is no bringing any cool.
What typhoon - what cyclone - easy - not much important if you are far from sea.
It's same - some place rain - some place flood - some place heat - some place storms - pretty casual events
Surely - +ve weather powerful - but not so good for any society

I have said so numerous times before - It's virtual world - Identity has very less meaning - words float and everyone can see them. As simple as that.
Virtual world - u don't share info - because fraud is the very smple -ve of this world - other -ve are far more dangerous - yet many not learn their lessons and each year u hv millions of cyber -ve activities.
Social media is small part of it but provides one of the most opportunities to let everyone loose n that helps those who target them.
Internet isn't for kids - mobile phones surely not - kids hardly know limits and hardly can protect themselves and easy targets.
If you hv 2 take an example - CLOTHES OFF - There are several such applications and software - a selfie turns very harmful - this is what a few middle schooler n their parents hv learned now. It's not even a new thing - I remember old forum days when Photoshop was used for such.
deepfake or AI - derived ideas from there itself. Those who know, know. So nothing different is happening as far as society is concerned but ys technology development has eased the work for everyone - Earlier it was hobby a work but now it's in hands of everyone and everyone likes to be naughty and foul. So u should learn how to handle things, especially in virtual world.

VIRTUAL WORLD -
What's your name, Place or region to gender to age - identities have no shame, manners, idea - Privacy is a thing - It's a virtual world - u don't ask - u don't respond - u r no more than a virtual identity.
So many times so many asked these silly questions - Virtual identity has no age, gender, race, skin colour, nationality. nothing. virtual identity derive energy from humans - it can even be bots and AI in present world. I have said it so many times before. Learn to behave yourself of one or other some -ve will reach you because of your own stupidity.

Lee Joon Hyuk has confirmed to star in the spin-off of Forest of Secrets and although I like Lee Joon Hyuk a lot and will watch this spin-off version, it's not FoS season 3, is it? It's not if Cho Seung Woo and Bae Doona aren't in it.
In the last open thread, @indyfan provided a link to an article about James Sun and Joseph Chang as the current owners and the founders of DB. Although I know that the interviewer might have cook the interview data to a certain extent, such misleading information couldn't have been the work of the interviewer alone, could it? I mean, the interviewees must definitely have been informed of such details, if they hadn't been the ones who provided such details. That article should have acknowledged what javabeans and girlfriday did for DB.
When one thing in an article we know is not correct, we tend to doubt other information as well. Although it's not important at all, I still have my doubt about the statistics provided in that article, like approximately 90% (or something like that) of DB users are from North America. Just saying.

I discovered Dramabeans a year or so after the transition, but it’s only recently that I learned about the history of the site and the change in leadership. I watch a lot of older shows and treasure javabeans’ and girfriday’s insightful, informative, deeply engaged, and often hilarious recaps.
If, as they say, the new-ish owners of the site have found a way to turn a profit through partnerships and sponsorships, then why…
…are they asking for financial support from us users?
…haven’t they invested in improving the sloooow, crash-prone website? And upgrading some of the functionality (such as making “following” someone actually allow you follow them).
Messrs. Chang and Sun — If you read this comment, please consider my questions and don’t just remove the post!

I don't get this at all
THIS IS FROM THAT SITE ☝👆
Dramabeans was founded in 2007 by Chang and Sun both a big fan of Korean TV drama. Chang, a fan of Korean actress Kim Hee-sun, and Sun launched a blog first and wrote about Korean emotions and history in English to help foreigners understand Korean TV shows. At first, the blog was managed as a simple hobby. What they both did was upload selected screen captures from a Korean drama and provide explanations with cultural notions.
AND THIS IS FROM WIKIPEDIA
👇👇
Dramabeans began as a blog by Korean American "Sarah",[1] better known by her online pen name of "javabeans" in 2007 as a site to recap and debate Korean dramas. As the popularity of the blog increased, she registered the domain name. In 2010, Dramabeans reader "Jen", better known as "girlfriday", became a second regular reviewer-contributor to the site,[2] and the two were able to make the site their full-time job.

I think the new owners got rather ahead of themselves in the beginning and thought they could use the site for quick profit (there were lots of merchandise selling and advertising for some time) so they hurried to make a name for themselves on the net. But I guess they understood the reality very soon, because we never heard anything else after that.

Some of the WITHS2 sub-squad occasionally called JB "Sarah" in the comment section. JB used to be one of the sub-squad before she created Dramabeans.
The K-drama communities back then were pretty harmonious. We know where to go for certain dramas. Sageuks, K-history, heavy/serious dramas at Mr. X's blog, thundie's prattle for a bit of everything, DB for rom.com, later covers every genre. C-dramas / C-novels and more at Koala's Playground, etc.
It was fun when they used to do group reviews on each other's blogs.

2010-11 (Tundie and Dahee etc)

I wish DB's new owners would have acknowledged them at that interview.

Original founder was Javabeans, she loved dramas and started recapping them for fun, then it grew, she left her job and planned to run the site as her full time job, Girlfriday joined her and I think they even lived together, however, they were not able to keep it profitable and had to find jobs and later had to sell it or hand it over to other people, I assume current owners, I thought everyone knew it, I actually when I came back thought they were still running DB, but noticed there have not been any recaps or posts by them and then found out they left, I was too heartbroken tbh, but glad DB is still running, but credit should be given where it’s due and they were original owners who started DB

Well excuse me while I cry!
Actually this kinda triggered some pessimist and loneliness issues for me cause I'm always terrified of losing things I'm attached to and I've been attached to this site for so long.
I came/found this due to my interest in Lee Seung Gi and I can't express how nice it felt to see in depth thoughts and conversations about this actor and/or drama that I liked. I think the first drama I ever commented on (unregistered) was Hwayugi. This has become my go to whenever I get into a drama. I instantly look to see if it's covered.
I wish I could contribute more to the cause I never want to lose this site.

Perhaps it was like that initially all those years ago when Hallyu market wasn't as global yet, but nowadays such statistics can't be further from the truth. Just sayin' as a proud part of the remaining 10% (or 25% since it says 75% in the text - still very off imo).
That article is a mess tho, ex-journalist in me disapproves hard. Only saving grace is that it's an old one - 2016? damn, that was a few lifetimes ago! - since in 2020's no one in their right mind would've doubt the power of k-content with the wording like "Hally's still alive, guys!" LOL. And it seems to be written by a Korean author who couldn't care less about foreign fans of their country's media.

This story seems to be a mess. Someone should write a kdrama.
Some background info I have found:
There's a 2016 official SEC document lurking in a corner of the internet listing 3 people: James Sun and the real names of Javabeans and Girlfriday.
Here's an article from 2014 mentioning JB & GF but not Mr. Sun.
http://www.koreatimesus.com/dramabeans-guardian-of-the-k-drama-galaxy/
Here's something from 2018 with Javabeans under her real name
http://hq.humanities.uci.edu/aas/calendar/news.php?recid=3790
The 2017 10-year anniversary bash was hosted by JB & GF.

To make it a kdrama we need to add some essential elements - revenge, love triangle, childhood connection, perhaps a bit of amnesia just for kicks - to this plot, or it will NEVER work. I'm afraid my imagination kinda fails me when I'm trying to mix it all together...

Mostly the drama focuses on money and struggles for corporate control. Think Reborn Rich or Payback.
But at one point (sorry, I don't have the link) Mr Sun said DB was family owned, which points to lots of family squabbles. And being related qualifies as an (admittedly bland) childhood connection, right?
So write JB, GF & Mr Sun as long-lost amnesiac face-blind half-siblings.

Hmmm, you're right, it should be good old makjang genre-wise. Then change love triangle for hostile family dinners, kimchi slaps, faked illnesses, birth secrets, that one episode when everyone goes to court and ugly fights there, dramatic presscons (while in wheelchair to appear more pitiful), shareholders meetings in a huge room with giant oval table... And in the end all conflicts are magically resolved by everyone going to study in USA for a year.

I know people are feeling upset towards the confusing articles and the buyers of the site, and I don't know how right it is of me to say this, but one of the reasons JB and GF had to quit was the pressure from the readers. (I hesitate to call them beanies)
JB had a job, and founded the blog to talk about her favorite hobby and shed light on Korean customs and traditions. If you go back enough you will see that most of the commenters were fluent in Korean, some of them knew each other in real life, it was a very close knit community, which then started to grow fast.
The demand for more recaps was intense, sometimes even worded very unkindly. I remember JB had a back surgery which left her with a very long recovery process, and she was stressed about the delayed recaps.
They had to keep asking for new recappers, which was quite hard back then because they needed to be fluent in Korean, both the language and the traditions, as the subs came out much later than they do now.
And the ever-growing site, the new domain, new recappers, all needed money.
What I'm trying to say, is that it is true that the articles have been unbelievably unfair to change the facts, but as far as I remember it wasn't like someone snatched a perceived golden-egg laying hen out of JB's hands. She and GF had been clearly extremely stressed and overwhelmed in the latter years. There were quite a few times they mentioned the good old days when they could watch whatever they wished, even the craziest makjang, instead of what the site visitors demanded. I used to sympathize with them A LOT in those latter years. When something you used to love becomes that much of a chore, you might prefer to quit.

Thanks so very much for offering this, @midnight. I've been wondering about this exact socio-technical quandary (under what conditions this well-respected early blog made the transition to a different type of somewhat (beloved!!!!) retro-space here in the 2020s) for a while now, and your "eyewitness" account fills in many gaps and I appreciate your time in writing it.
For better or for worse, we Beanies (I hope I get to be called one of those!!) are in a collaboration with those who run this site. No collaborations run smoothly all the time, that's for sure!
The outage earlier this week caused by agents external to Dramabeans has reminded many of us how affectively attached we are to this community--one made up of interdependent parts, some of which we have no way to know as there is no transparent communication about it. Such is life, but we have recently been reminded that Dramabeans is a fragile ecosystem, to be sure.

The exciting and long-awaited confirmation of Lee Joon Hyuk for Stranger spin-off was not included in news bites for some reason. I am a bit disappointed that the writer is handing off the new drama to other screenwriters and the original director extraordinaire will not be at the helm. So I am mentally preparing myself for possibly a completely different style of drama that may disappoint me if I compare it to Stranger. I don't know why the original writer didn't want to continue writing the spin-off, since it was her idea. But she's doing a completely different drama right now, Dominant Species, which is supposed to air sometime this year. I am looking forward to that too, because Ju Ji Hoon will be in it.

Way back in 2014 there was a kdrama called The Three Musketeers, which was supposed to be part 1 of a trilogy. It didn't do especially well, so parts 2 & 3 never happened. There are some lessons here which I hope some bigwigs might learn before they stick us with more sequels like Arthdal, Voice (after the first one, which was ok), Poong...
1: If you really want to do another season, be sure to put enough good stuff into the one you're doing now to earn it.
2: It's ok to cancel your plan.
3: You DON'T HAVE TO KEEP DOING MORE SEASONS just because you wanted to.

I LOVE The Three Musketeers, but after showing the villain back from the dead in the after credits, I was glad they didn't get to season 2. If you want to add 24 episodes to a show, have the integrity of thinking up new stories and villains. Not bring back the same villain from the back and continuing with the same old.

I was kind of ‘meh’ about Three Musketeers and didn’t see the need for a second season. I think the producers were wise to quit while they were ahead; more producers should heed that advice.
There are two shows I absolutely loved where the ending clearly left the door open for a second season: Circle and Life on Mars. Unfortunately, too much time has passed to make it likely that either one will be returning.

I recall similar case - when HWARANG producers boldly announced additional content like webtoon, musical, game (?) and heavens know what else BEFORE the show even aired... only to scrap all that faster than light travels once the drama itself flopped hard *evil goblin cackling* To this very day I wonder what exactly made them so wrongly confident in this stillborn franchise. Surely not the money they've invested in it - I seldom saw productions this cheap and half-assed even among budgety sea of youth fusion sageuks.

But back then the squad as a high value brand didn't really exist yet, PSJ and PHS were nowhere near as famous as they are now, supporting cast had two idols (one infamous for his wooden acting and another with ZERO acting experience at all) and some unknown actors... Oh, right, they also had Go Ara for FL, how lucky of them! *rolls eyes* It was also writer's first (and last to date - why am I not surprised?) full-length drama. So, again, what were all those massive plans based on AT THE TIME? Lethal dose of eye candy in a single show?)))

True... Yet i think Arthdal got the worst of it as the drama was from the beggining wrote as a whole aka 30/40 episodes drama but got the Netflix virus and the companies desire to bank money going for the US format of god knows how many seasons not understanding that the korean industry isin't like the US one, such as actors signing to a show and so being available for it for a long time (even 16 or more years)...So the poor show ,if one liled it or not as that is totally to one's taste got butchered into this so called seasons doing it all this diservice...
Imagine if Six Flying Dragons got the same treatment (and not completly filmed) it would end up being just as weird...
Voice for better or worse got to tell it's story and then got added other seasons...

Some great reporting in the NYTimes regarding South Korea this past week. I know the NYTimes isn't open access, but I'll post the links for those of you that can access. These articles really seem relevant to kdrama watching to me.
Regarding international adoptions: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/17/world/asia/south-korea-adoption.html?searchResultPosition=3
Regarding historical baking/cooking
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/18/dining/yakgwa-korean-honey-cookies.html?searchResultPosition=1
I didn't get to read this one yet, since it came out today, but looks interesting:

SK had a checkered past in regard to international adoptions because most were private adoptions which did not require a court approval. Baby brokers created an industry of exporting babies for money by pressuring single mothers to give up their children instead of shaming their family honor. Now, both public and private adoptions require court approval under very strict standards (ex., only couples married 3 years and under 44 years old can adopt).
Foreign adoptees have recently filed suits to find their biological parents. One adoptee sued for paternity against her father and won the right to be formally put on his family registry (which gives her inheritance rights).
There are still societal and culture conflicts about adoption. The concept that family bloodlines have to be "pure," means you should not raise another parent's child, still holds true in many conservative families.

The recent weekender, The real has come, tried (but didn’t succeed) to show the conflict of “pure” bloodlines. They could have also done more to show different family structures and also talked about IVF and what might happen if there was a sperm donor—actually hinted that in early episodes—but it never panned out.

Honestly, I have the feeling it was the same in every country that had a high rate of adoptions.
In Switzerland, there was a big scandal about the adoptions from Sri Lanka. The goverment accepted to give money to the victims to help them to find their origin.

Some random insight. The founder of my company is a Korean woman. Absolutely brilliant person and a rare minority female founder in a sea of white men. I asked her why move from Korea and one (of many) reason is that her parents are teachers and in Korea this makes it so that the children do not have opportunities. She's successful here in the states but she also infers that the opportunities for her would be limited in Korea due to her parents background.

In When The Camellia Blooms, the female lead grew up at an orphanage, and this caused both of her boyfriends' mothers to look down on her and object to their relationship. When her mother finally showed up and started acting like a mother and started defending her around town, people bullied her less and her boyfriend's mother's attitude also softened.

A fantastic film came out last year about a 20-something French adoptee who goes to South Korea to look for her biological parents. Her story plays out over eight years, showing how connecting with her Korean family affects the way she sees herself. It's called Return to Seoul.

My best friend in college and her brother were Korean adoptees. I wonder if she knows if her mother may have been forced to give her up She has said that her father may have been Japanese (and she looks more Japanese than Korean) which would have made her an outcast as well. She’s so far removed from her birth country now that she asks me about Korean culture (who is not a drop Korean).

That is interesting because you learnt about Korean culture by being intentional so if she was interested she could do her learning that way too. Reading fiction, watching dramas, reading non fiction, or learning the language there are so many ways to learn about other countries and cultures without being directly involved with the people if there is a traumatic experience that is acting as a barrier.

I'm the type of person that will cry with you or for you. I'm the type of person that will always give you a hug or a little pet in the head (yeah, I do that with my friends so I never found it weird when I saw someone doing it in a drama). Even tho I'm that kind of person, I'm the WORST at comforting someone. I really suck at it.
This year has been tough for me and my friends. We all started the year feeling super anxious about getting a job. Some got jobs and always complain about them, others didn't got jobs and are desperate for it, and others don't care about jobs or wtv that much and are just busy having an existential crisis about wtf we wanna do with our lives.
I'm the type to go into denial and just wait for reality to kick me in the butt. But my friends are different, they're present in the moment. They need to feel and express everything right now. So they always express their feelings and look for comfort.
Usually, I would say something that wasn't that helpful and hug them. My hugs are powerful so that would help them a little.
But now that I live in another city I can't do that! I just say dumb shirt, no hugs!
I feel like I'm not really helping my friends, like I'm not there for them.
It's always nice to have someone listening to you, it's good to let things out, yeah. But nothing wins against the warm comfort physical affection can give you, at least not for me. That's the dynamic I have with the people I love, and that's the only way I know how to give them my support. So I really feel bad for not being able to give them everything I have.
If only I knew how to say the right thing, maybe I wouldn't feel this frustrated.
Yeap, I miss my friends and I feel bad for not being there and wtv, sorry for this bible. LOL

I’m so sorry you can’t physically be with your friends when it sounds like they’re struggling and need some support.
It’s been my experience that the best way to support a friend or family member who’s having a rough time is to be a sympathetic listener. Don’t feel you need to come up with a solution to their problem or find the perfect words that will magically make them feel better. Sometimes when we try to offer advice, it only makes the person feel pressured to do something when they’re already stressed out.
With your friends who are anxious about not having a job or direction in life, maybe you could say something like, “I’m really sorry you’re having such a rough time.” Or “Is there anything I can do to help you feel better?” They may come right out and tell you that all they need is for you to be their sounding board.
That said, I think you should be careful about not letting yourself become a dumping ground for all your friends’ problems. You need to take care of your own mental health and call “time out” when you’re feeling overwhelmed.
BTW - I do see the irony in my offering you advice not to give advice. Hope I’m not overstepping!

Are you and your friends able to do a meet up any time soon so you can give your recharging hugs in a lump sum. I wonder if next time you do meet up you can get someone to film you hugging them as our memories are good at evoking the emotions associated with images you could then send the video/image as a stand in when needed. I have way too many instances of driving with tears running down my face trying to stifle hysterical laughter remembering an image from an event in my life or a film etc.
It sounds like you are the sunshine in your friends’ lives and when you are around they can bask in your physical touch and get energised. I will think of you every time I see characters recharging with hugs; my favourite is the art room recharge in Seasons of blossom. This is a good example of us being aware of our love language and those of our loved ones so now it’s about how we can come up with back up plans for when we can’t put it into action. Some love languages travel long distance better than others.

Maybe the rumors that Disney+ is cutting Kdrama content is overstated.

One has to factor in the long writers and actors strike into the equation. Originally, it was thought that the strikes could last into December. The last I heard the studios have not bargained in earnest even though they met 3 times this week.

Watching the cdrama Fake It Till You Make It and there is some interesting commentary about rich jaded men trying to find young exciting females trying to move up in the world to bring excitement to their lives but then they use them up and discard them. However I think they were trying to say it was a 2 way use street where both benefit. FL seemed like she was contemplating that approach and got called out on it by the rich guy who actually liked her authentic not trying self when she finally decided she was more interested in the still rich (but not quite as rich) ML. No down in the dirt poor guy just trying to make a living but still super sweet to the girl. On episode 9/14 and can't quite make out if the sister's boyfriend is playing a long game of fake sincerity or true sincerity.

Fake it till you make it is an amazing drama. I loved it, I finished binge watching it yesterday. The sister/cousin, I don’t think they are birth sisters, character is one that grates on me as she is very childish in her approach to relationships. She takes way more than she gives and we see various outcomes of adopting that approach through the responses of the men in her life. Her love life is an interesting side story; the rich suitor who played her big time, the first sweet boyfriend who left her for the woman who ‘snatched’ him by ‘caring ‘for him’. The current boyfriend definitely gives off a suspicious vibe I felt this from the time he used his sister for buying the gift and the whole hospital scene.
Re the rich jaded guy approach from the time he called the female lead over during the weekend and had her be his guest when his friend and his mistress came over was him showing his disrespect for her so the whole speech was just emphasising the point for those in the back who may have missed it. She was working and I feel it was a tough choice if she didn’t play a part of a sophisticated woman would he have hired the firm? The very fact it was seen as acceptable to call her out to a social event during her free time says she didn’t have much of a choice in the game playing. That element of the difficulties of getting the balance right was played out with the female client she bought the flowers and scarf for to apologise for her team lead messing things up.
There were so many interesting elements of relationships in work and personal lives between men and woman and the friendships that were developed. The only one we didn’t see was family relationships which is unusual as we usually get a phone call from a parent worried if they are eating ok etc.

“Fake It till you make it” is the best drama (released in 2023) I have watched this year so far. “My Dearest” would be the second, and maybe it will be the top 1 once it's finished.
Any recommendations of C-dramas/Taiwanese dramas as good as Fake It is welcome :)

I am just about to start Sunshine by my side as that had good reviews so you may want to look into that. I will report back when I have watched a couple of episodes. It’s a 36 episode drama so needs to be good to keep me watching, I like the 14 episode dramas but they are hard to find.
Have you seen Remembrance of things past? It has the same director and is a similar modern setting 14 episodes drama. Four school friends from a small town end up living and working in one of the major cities. It shows their work, friendships, relationships and family. I liked it a lot but it does cover heavy subjects; safety issues for women, suicide and mental health, work place politics. You will see the same dynamic of the immature woman trying to make a relationship based on some fantasy lifestyle with one of the women. The other women are more interesting.

@isagc I can confirm Sunshine by my side is worth a watch. It looks like it’s going down the Noona romance playbook of showing the young man is competent at work and play. He has been raised right by his parents so is mature and self managing so it makes sense for the older woman who is at the top of her game professionally and socially to give him a second look. So far the office politics are just about bearable and family are a key part of the story too. I am enjoying it so far.

I don't even know how to phrase this but it's something that's been on my mind. Cutting ties with convicted/assumed criminals. Recently, an American actor was convicted of sexual assault from years ago and sentenced to 30 years. 2 of his former costar wrote character letters to the judge asking for leniency. Somehow those letters got leaked and oh boy, did folks have something to say. People didn't buy or care about the whether the convicted guy's parents had asked for the letters, just the fact they wrote them.
I think critics said they were supporting, condoning, excusing his criminal acts The actors who wrote the letters are even being called hypocrites since they're involved in organizations & efforts to stop trafficking. They said they were just writing about the guy they had known for 25 years and didn't mean to cause the victims any more pain.
That situation made me think of SK entertainment & image. Almost ANY time, someone gets caught up in a scandal, the people around them are also affected and slammed with "birds of a feather flock together". MC Mong evaded his military service which led to banning from stations but then he also couldn't hang out with his friends publicly anymore or be acknowledged. I could be wrong but with Yoo Ah In, it's like every few weeks, it's being speculated that another one of his friends or acquaintances is also wrapped up in the scandal (they did drugs, they got drugs, etc). I don't think I've seen ANYONE being non judgemental of Yoo Ah In. Like yeah, he did the thing but he isn't a criminal mastermind deserving of drinks thrown at him. Once upon a time it was rumored 2 actors were dating and netizens were against it cause her family had a scandal that involved bullying, death, & supposedly paying off people and his family supposedly had Japanese sympathizers or folks who benefited during that time. They weren't even dating but my point is people didn't even want them hypothetically together due to tangential relationships.

My point is, it seems to me according Korean backlash, you're supposed to turn your back on anyone who has done bad or unsavory things no matter the relationship. Best friends, parents, grandparents.
Bullied people at 14, not allowed to have friends at 24. Grandparents were shady, you're to bear the shame.
I may completely simplifying this but I did say I didn't know how to phrase my thoughts.

I made the amateur mistake of starting Behind Your Touch before it finished airing, and have been awkwardly holding my horses for the past two weeks, trying not to totally forget about the drama in the meantime. Behind Your Touch is delightful, I had trouble getting into episode 1 at first, but on second try, I was completely charmed and had no problem sailing through episode by episode.
In the meantime, I tried picking up Moving. If you remember, the first time I watched Moving, I started at episode 10 by accident, and as you may know, that is where serious violence ensues. So my impression of Moving was a little different from everyone else's. The second time I tried Moving from episode 1, and it went a little smoother. I play the episodes at 1.25x speed because it helps with my slight impatience with the pace of the drama. I have to say, I am not in love with either of the leads. They don't impress me much (as Shania Twain says) Zo In Sung is super unconvincing and dorky and Han Hyo Joo lacks something, maybe intensity. They're passable, I don't fervently hate them, but I really feel don't feel much for their portrayals of their characters. I can think of a handful of actors who would have done a much better job than Zo In Sung, to be honest. He has the looks but lacks the acting skills to make me believe that he's the one for the role. Really, he's not much better at convincing me he's a black ops agent who can fly than Cha Eun Woo is a priest in Island. I don't know why everyone is gaga over Han Hyo Joo either. I didn't like her that much in Happiness (she flipped her hair a bit too much for a police officer) and I disliked her a little bit less in Moving, but still I find her acting lacking in something. Is it a lack of intensity?
