This week had a dating scandal with a “scandal” element. Many cultures view marriage not as a social-economic bond but a merger of families’ reputations and honor. It is probably rooted in the general concept that a child is not an individual but a family member who inherits a parent’s assets (good) and debts (bad) traits.
This week, Actress Han Ji-min (42) and Jannabi vocalist Choi Jung-hoon (32) have been confirmed as a couple. It is her first official dating confirmation. The couple reportedly started dating after Han's August 2023 appearance on the KBS music show "The Seasons," hosted by Choi. During the show, they performed Jannabi's "A Thought on an Autumn Night" together. She once said Jannabi was her favorite band.
But as quick as the dating news spread, so did k-netizen negative reaction to it because t Choi Jung Hoon’s father had previously been sentenced to 3 years in prison for committing fraud. When the story broke in 2019, Choi was listed as a shareholder in family real estate company where his father allegedly bribed a minister to issue a business redevelopment license he sold to a company for $2.5M but embezzled $250k for himself. Many commentators viewed the news as the equivalent of Lee Da In (Lee Seung Gi’s wife) family scandal that adversely affected Seung Gi’s career and reputation.
Which is really sad for Han who had a very good reputation as an actor and person. In 2022 interview she admitted is very shy when it came to dating. “Starting from back when I was in elementary school, I’ve been in unrequited love a lot. Even if I liked someone, I was afraid of being rejected, so I’d just watch them from afar. Nowadays, I’m starting to think that if I find someone I like, I should express my feelings before it’s too late,” she said. Han began filming her new SBS drama, Acquaintances, in February for a release later this winter.
Korean culture does have a heavy dose of “guilt by association” assumptions. And the entertainment industry does use reputation rankings in determining project offers to actors and singers. This is another example of a positive private matter becoming a negative public matter.

I was just reading about this (sweet) news about Han moments before I logged on here!! It's sad to hear it might be more bitter-sweet than sweet. The price for fame in this world is incredibly steep.
I'm always deeply troubled by this guilt by association element of Korean culture. Everyone is and should be responsible for their own mistakes. We are already impacted enough by each other's actions in sometimes irreversible ways but to then saddle each other with our choices (or whatever) ...just no👎

I truly think folks want others they deem "bad" or associated with bad to commit suicide. How else do you explain or justify their actions? They don't want them to date, have friends, or work. They want them to be miserable and live in shame for things they sometimes didn't even do. And those most vocal rarely, if ever, apologize for their harsh criticisms.
I remember when everything was happening with the guy from My Mister, folks were just ripping him apart. They said things about he was just the worst and how he didn't deserve compassion or understanding or patience first because of the drugs and then because of the cheating. He was just the scum of the earth. After he died, those same folks who criticized him were showing concern for his wife and kids.

Our actions clearly affect other people.
But I hate it when it occurs in matters like this. This guilt by association is very unhealthy.
And, I hate it that everyone turns FBI mode on people's relationships and marriages. Let the news just not happen on the media and busybody articles spring up here and there. Some don't even let the good news last a day. It is bad behavior.

It's upsetting because it did make me think of Lee Seung Gi and to this day, I'm still disappointed and sad about the affect his relationship had on his career. So many shows and appearance opportunties are just unlikely now.
I hope that doesn't happen to her. It's so unfair.
And it's hypocritical because the culture is like "you must honor and stand by your parents for good or bad" and then it's like "you didn't publicly disavow your parents? You're just as bad if not worse!"
Then the other argument is "the children reap the benefits of the crimes even if the parent who did wrong dies.
From what I understand, the son in this case was a grown man and had nothing to even do with his father's business and yet he's not supposed to be allowed to date or get married?

From what I read at that time, Lee Seung Gi's wife and her sister had been posting about their rich life style, and their money came from fraud committed by their parents, so it seems that the daughter had not problem flashing their money around. People generally will be more forgiving if they showed some restraint in their spending and some expression of remorse. Some netizens said at that time Lee Seung Gi would benefit a lot financially by getting married. I guess in some people' eyes, when you benefit from something gained illegally, you become vicariously liable. In Lee Seung Gi's case, he was not a naive youngster with little experience in the entertainment industry at that time, so I guess he knew what he was doing and expected the consequence.

I was hoping as a fan of Choi Jin Hyuk and Han Jimin that they would meet and fall in love while working on their drama. Well this news means that she was started dating last year and was not available when they were filming their drama the past few months. It's a shame because these actors are both very decent people. I don't know, I see the ten year age gap and his father who bribed and embezzled money as red flags. Money is a huge issue in marriages and you know the saying, "you marry each other's family". Falling in love is easy, but marriage between two families is hard. So choose wisely, Han Jimin...

FROM THE FRONTLINES OF 9TAILEDFOX'S FIRST WEEK BACK AT WORK:
(A) Back In The Saddle Again
I'm back at work and got through quite a bit of the post-sabbatical work pile this week. Things are going steadily and I haven't been too tired out so the sabbatical has done its job of recovering much of my post-COVID energy and spoons. Here's hoping it lasts.
(B) The Suga Drunk Scootering Incident
BTS's Suga was caught drunk driving his e-scooter after dinner this week. He has publicly apologised and taken responsibility for his actions, paid the fine, and has had his driver's license revoked:
https://apnews.com/article/bts-suga-entertainment-korea-scooter-drunk-60487fade05efd670c3eb51bbf07c91e
He's now under fire from K-netizens and the media worldwide including major media such as the New York Times and the BBC. Reactions from K-Pop fans range from being understanding about doing stupid things when drunk to calling for him to leave BTS.
(C) This Week in Korean Women's News
1. South Korea Olympic champ An Se-young returns home. Government reviews complaint of poor treatment
South Korean badminton star An Se-young, the women’s singles winner at the Paris Olympics, tempered her criticism of the national team upon her return home Wednesday as government officials look into her comments this week about being forced to play through injuries and receiving poor support ahead of the Games.

I had a 6-month sabbatical - my team practically strong-armed me into having one because of my horrendous burnout.
It's not nearly enough but in my line of work. A full sabbatical year would've been ideal but I can't be away for too long.
So right now I'm on Phase 2 - rejigging my heavy work schedule so that I still continue rebuilding my health and healing the remainder of my burnout.

Thanks for sharing the stories about the poor treatment of the Korean female athletes. Whatever the country, it almost always seems like these incidents—including some truly horrendous instances of bullying and sexual assault by coaches and team doctors—are much more often perpetrated against female athletes.
Thank goodness this year's Olympics also featured some heartwarming stories—perhaps none so inspiring as the South Sudanese men's basketball team. The team is made up mostly of refugees from an impoverished, war-torn country that doesn't have even a single indoor basketball court. Amazingly, they managed to qualify for one of the 12 Olympic slots, then shocked the world when they came within seconds of winning an exhibition game against a USA team filled with NBA superstars. And then they scored a history-making win over the Puerto Rican team! While they didn't win a medal, just being there was a huge victory.
https://apnews.com/article/2024-olympics-south-sudan-basketball-073a8651367f8d4a6eab158a5a171530
As I've watched the Olympics, I couldn't help but notice how many brown and black athletes were competing under the flags of countries that have turned away, expelled, mistreated, and reviled migrants and refugees, especially the ones from Africa. These countries don't seem to have a problem when the people with dark skin and African-sounding names are winning them Olympic medals. I wonder how many of the rabid white supremacists in the USA would refuse to accept any of the eight medals won by the women's gymnastics team—comprising two African American, one Asian American, one Latina, and one White gymnast.

in other news Ukraine is invading Russia now. For people who don´t know why then the reason is Russia would like to freeze borders like the front line but if Ukraine takes part of THEIR land (tho if you ask me, they are just getting back all the stolen toilet bowls), then a peace deal like that would also freeze part of Russia as Ukrainian territory. Second reason is to make Russia pull back their missiles so they dont hit Ukrainian cities. and third is to force Russia to move a generous amount of army away from the southern front.
thats whats going on if you are even following the subject.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!
I am officially on leave until September!🎉🎉🎉
I wrote this post last weekend, because I will miss a few Open Threads. Next week I am leaving on Thursday and spending the weekend at my best friend’s place. The Friday after I am watching an outdoor play with another friend, who suggested we spent the whole day at the theatre location since there are many activities there during the day as well.
The remainder of the time, most of it to be honest, will be spent cozily at home. My ideal day consists of just picking up whatever I feel like doing and leave it to continue the next day. Lately I have made some progress in sorting through the family pictures and other postponed projects, which makes me motivated and impatient to continue that progress at the very least. Then there are also my untouched books and movies to discover.
I have had fun with K-dramas until now but juggling them with work and real life has been challenging. To preserve the love, I will be taking a short K-drama break. Nothing huge, just putting the other things I mentioned above first. Despite the big batch this month, I am not yet fully on board with any show, so this is very convenient. However, I am open to getting swept away, so I may or may not eat my words!😆
Until the 30th of August, for now!🙋♀️

After watching Moon Lovers kdrama 2016 and getting frustrated by the heroine, I started watching the original c-drama, Scarlet Heart. So, I want to rant about a few things and wish that fellow beanies also share their thoughts.
For scarlet heart 2011, it was more about the war for the throne, politics, the Qing empire than the romance. Actually to me, Ruoxi liked neither of them. It was the 4th prince who loved her since the beginning and 8th prince liked her along the way. 4th prince wasn't sweet-tongued and kept making up excuses to see Ruoxi (the horse riding lessons) but never said it out loud that he liked her. He rather kept dropping off gifts for Ruoxi to show his affection and even attacked the CP to stop his marriage plans to Ruoxi. I understand that both 8th and 4th loved Ruoxi but I wish they gave us a more cunning version of 8th because the worst he did was setting up 4th prince and getting 13th entangled in it and imprisoned for a decade. On the other side, 8th entirely gave up after 4th ascended to the throne that got me questioning his end.
At least, I understand why Ruoxi wanted to leave the palace because the situation was really scary and 4th took things to an extreme or perhaps some things happened in real life but weren't shown on screen that brought about those heavy punishments.
In moon lovers, however, the character of male lead was much toned down. Not that I am complaining about that. And the sly nature of 8th was developed properly. The downside was the characterization of female lead that was frustrating to almost everyone of the audience. At least Ruoxi tried hard to hold up until things were really dire and got a reason that isn't so ridiculous though getting married to 14th is something that I can't take no matter what.
All on all, I got my closure after watching Scarlet Heart and I am looking forward to the Thai version, hoping to get a tweak for a happy ending even if it is on the off chance.

I agree with you 💯 on moon lovers..I haven't watched Chinese version but kdrama version the things you pointed out was overall opinion as well. I never agreed understood why she left the palace over a maid who was worst than an enemy. I know there are other reasons as well but still. And 4th prince was trying his best in every case and stopd by her all times. She showed more compassion and forgiving to 8th prince who betrayed her and others as well.

Another big downside for MOON LOVERS was IU's sageuk acting - total lack of thereof, precisely - but yes, writing did not give her much help either.
I always thought that the main reason for things eventually turning the way they did there was FL refusing to let go of her modern sensitivities and properly adjust to much harsher reality of a different era. She wanted to be with a loving man who was nice and decent, totally ignoring the fact that nice and decent did not live long in that time and circumstances. Her outlandish demands were impossible to fulfill by ANY of her suitors, hence why all of them, her included, ended up being badly hurt by their entanglement.

If she accepted the fact that the king/emperor couldn't be forgiving at all times just because of the brotherly ties and some crimes were highly severe (8th prince committed treason) and didn't just childishly tell the king to forgive his brothers, she could have reached some middle ground where she could stay with the king and others could preserve their lives.

For me, Scarlet Heart is one of the *very best* C-dramas in the political/palace intrigue/time slip genre), the best of the three Chinese print-to-screen adaptations of the original novel, and the series that changed my view about what Chinese dramas are capable of. There's a reason why this adaptation became a phenomenon across Asia.
For those of us who understand this particular period, the succession coup after Kang-Xi was one of the bloodiest ever in Chinese history -- involving many princes taking sides around the 4th & 8th. The masterful adaptation captured the nuances, tensions, existential dilemma of this utterly complicated and tangled web of desire, ambition, and divided loyalties, without losing the depth and complexity of characterisation. It was mind-blowingly masterful.
So, for that reason, when I watched the Korean adaptation Moon Lovers when it premiered, I cannot help but compare it to Scarlet Heart unfavorably. It didn't engage me and I think I dropped it maybe after 4-6 eps?
But to be fair, I think the writer's and director's vision and intention are important for adaptation to a different cultural context and Moon Lovers may have something quite different in mind and merely intended to use the original source text & historical events as a springboard to examine other thematic concerns?

I also loved how the Chinese version drew on the real history in such nuanced and thoughtful ways, which made the thought of watching a version trying to wedge the plot into a totally different cultural and historical reality alarming. So yeah, I never watched Moon Lovers and it doesn't sound like I missed much.

MOON LOVERS did try to highlight different themes - like toxic lookism and abusive parenting - and featured decent story arcs for both MLs (and arguably SFL), tho mainly elevated by actors performances. On the downside was nearly everything else, starting with egregiously messy take on "I can fix him" trope by FL. It fails big time as a palace intrigue, mostly attracting viewers with its cast, OST and epic tragedy vibes.

The 2011 Chinese Scarlett Heart is more about how a free-spirited, modern career woman slowly got crushed by the oppression inherent in the feudal system tha a love story. The young Ruoxi was still spirited and larghed a lot and she still dreamt that she could some day be free. However, after she entered the palace, she became more and more cautious as the stake became higher and higher and she herself became a pawn in the game. Except for the 13th prince, none of the other princes treated her equally despite the 4th, 8th,10th and 14th princes claiming to love her at one time or other. Yes, the 4th and 8th might love her, but the 8th prince loved his ambition more and the 4 th prince's lust for revenge outweight any love he had for Ruoxi (his boiling of Yutan was unforgiveable). Among the princes, I liked the 13th prince most as he truly understood and supported Ruoxi no matter what she did. His friendship with Ruoxi was very touching. As for Kangxi, although it seems he likes Ruoxi even saying she reminded him his daughter who was married very far away, when Ruoxi disobeyed him for the first time, he ordered her beaten and assigned her to the water yard doing hard labor. This is the system in which Ruoxi tried her best to preserve her best and help those round her. No wonder she got depression and her last wish was to leave the palace and the 4th prince.

That is a well-thought write-up. I agree with almost every word. Scarlet Heart did a great job of convincing us why Ruoxu wanted to leave the palace. I have to admit that she help up with all her best and 4th was really extreme in his revenge. I don't know if we are missing historical context here but 8th already gave up, 10th was an idiot, the only risk was 9th and he needed to be eliminated.
I just have one pount to say boiling Yutan was very cruel and I couldn't watch that scene but she had her punishment coming maybe a less brutal one could have been much better but 4th tried to get her to leave the palace and warned her several times but she still went down that path.

Yes, a depressed Ruo-xi has an absolutely compelling reason to leave the palace. She is already withering away, frayed by years of tension-wrought political tussles.
It's interesting @Gikata mentioned how the FL in Moon Lovers is egregiously trying to "fix" the ML. In stark contrast, Scarlet Heart is anything but.
The original Chinese title (步步惊心) is way more telling in summing up the very heart of our heroine's psyche - an idiom that literally means : "Every step, in trepidation". Romance or a fixer-upper project of your prince is a luxury she can ill afford; she is desperately trying to survive the coming bloodbath.
In the end, there are no true winners. The original novel ends in the Qing dynasty period I recall (without the drama version bookend of her being transported back to present-day).
The novel ending is forlorn: "Emperor Yong Zheng overlooks his palace grounds. In the end he is alone. Truly, utterly alone."

Agreed. Scarlet Heart showed us that being born as a royal had more drawbacks than luxuries and that the higher up you go the lonelier you get.
Be it 4th lamenting his fate in scarlet heart and saying people he wanted about all left or Wang So saying life is futile, the message hit me in the guts.

I was NEVER able to get behind MOON LOVERS FL audacity of thinking that not only she has the right to judge that era's people by her anachronistic morals, but also that there is any real need to change anyone or anything and that her efforts will surely improve things. Writers likely intended this "noble" goal to make her look brave and enlightened, but the end result was frustratingly opposite.
C-version sounds far more sane in comparison. But I hate Tong Hua's writing style and have no desire to suffer through it myself. It is amusing though how many bestsellers she managed to churn out all based on the same old theme of "ordinary woman dreaming of ordinary happiness lost between multiple men who are destined for tragic greatness".

Let's be real here - it's 90+% of them. Asian drama that doesn't become a trainwreck in the latter half/third and stick the landing with finale? Borderline fantasy stuff)))
I utterly adore first 8 (or 9, it's been a while) episodes of a largely forgotten oldie that is ME TOO FLOWER, it's my brainless retro makjang guilty pleasure show. Everything prior to FL discovering ML's real identity is pure fun in the most ridiculous way possible, but after that point nothing about the drama works anymore, even lackluster forced HE for everyone. I don't think I will be rewatching, but I was really hyped about Nam-soon. Didn't stay hyped, though.
It had the wild craziness combined with many important subjects that I hoped would develop into a truly interesting drama, taking up difficult matters in a fairytale way.
But it just took up difficult matters chomp on them and threw them on the ground, littering all over.
Freaking Fairytale did not take up difficult subjects, but it kept the absurdity and the fun, treating it's main love story, all the way through. Only after I found out that the writer of Freaking Fairytale had written the two first episodes og Nam-soon and all of Bong-soon. So who can say what would have happened if she had been able to keep the read thread of Nam-soon?
Also, Mr. Queen is one that I have seen more than once already, but I start rewriting it in my head from ... about halfways, I think.
To me, that chef stays inside his new body and finds true love.
Also, in my head I have a season 2, where the suicidal queen pops up in our time in a handsome man's body and finds life so easy she can hardly believe it.

@gikata a friend said Bong Hwan fell in love with the king because of the princess memories or because the princess was still inside of him, or something like that. If it wasn't because I she's my friend, I would've take it as a homophobic excuse, but it wasn't. She was serious and she's sane.
That made me realize people really watch dramas with very different lenses.
Gikata
August 9, 2024 at 5:09 PM
@enriquequierecagar perhaps one can think that, tho I respectfully disagree (and can go on for days WHY), but it was as clear as a day that King loved Bong Hwan (or, rather, So Bong the latter slowly became during the drama events) and would never be truly happy with just a slightly more feisty version of OG Queen as a replacement goldfish. It took a whole character assassination of previously hella perceptive King AND a shameless retcon of spinoff (which was notably half-assed even by actors themselves) to validate that endgame! 10/10 great characterization and storytelling *sarcasm*
DK-Drama 🫘 Giffing n Space Cadetting🍉🌱
August 9, 2024 at 5:42 PM
tabong, the drama was the homophobe ... or rather the producers, or advertizers, or ...
Whatever it was, the queen story was a wafer thin layer between condemnation and the obviously interesting and also much more romantic story of a self absorbed chef that finds true love 200 years before he was born, ... slowly giving in to his new experiences and feelings. (Also, since he is already a bit of a hedonist, I think). While the then king falls head over heels - slowly, but with great force - for his incomprehensible queen.

What I mean is in the surface your friend was right: That what happens in the drama.
But it is like saying that H.C. Andersen's main inspiration for The Little Mermaid were fish, and thei sad destiny of not being able to speak.

August 9, 2024 at 6:08 PM
DK, I also think that's what the drama tried to do. But I always thought of it as a hard notion to sell, because everything that gikata said was very true and obvious while watching the show. So when my friend agreed with that notion, I was shocked the show's trick actually worked.

August 9, 2024 at 6:51 PM
@enriquequierecagar perhaps it was taking things at the face value situation? Not everyone is into reading between the lines and analyzing their media deeply. And also it's simply polite to trust others unquestionably... or so I heard^^ Hence if character SAYS they're 100% happy right before ending credits, we're supposed to believe them. It's just me and my critical thinking syndrome mixed with a presumably healthy dose of paranoia...
@ceciliedk I firmly believe show's script was altered at some point, perhaps due to its unexpected popularity that lead to bigger pressure to stay general public friendly and thus less risky in ALL aspects. No way what we've been force fed in the end was makers original intention. I mean, we have a whole source material cdrama as a reference - that thing is unabashedly WILD and offers zero straight explanation whatsoever despite having multiple endings to placate both censors and audience.
DK-Drama 🫘 Giffing n Space Cadetting🍉🌱
August 9, 2024 at 11:47 PM
I saw some of the original version on youtube. It was very silly, and very cool - including having his period n'all.
And no matter how Chinese it was, it was also indie 😉 So yes.
With the cast that is hired for this one I suspect they tamed the script a good deal before the ending - the former soul pops up as soon as loving things start to happen between the queen and the king.
The chef gets so far as to contemplating: "Well, you don't know untill you've tried ..." before these arguments with the former soul start to happen.
But it's so ... Hello, lady! Finders Keepers! You left that body with the chef, you can't just come around harvesting all the good work he has done.
As for the king, I am pretty sure the last thing we hear of him is him thinking: "Something is missing ..." Yes, your Majesty. The Love of your Life, that's what!

I have spent far too much time for it to be healthy just arguing with transphobes and ehm ... variationphobes? online. Somebody has to say nice things in those discussions once in a while. I know some transgender persons that get really hurt from all that hate, so it's not fair for them to be alone defending the fact that sex/gender is not as simple as some wants it to be. Even under articles of scientists explaining that fact, some people are being the worst gatekeepers you could imagine. I'll spare you the details, they are tiring.

Happy Friday, Beanies! This was a hard week for me – lots of unexpected troubles, I've hurt my leg, plus c-writers once again proved they exist solely to put us into deep misery, yikes... So I'm not in the happiest mood rn, hence this time you're getting a “romantic emo hour pack” playlist, based mostly on titles.
Nothing is more fitting for “sad yet ridiculous” vibe than LYN once again clowning through another supposedly very sentimental song. He just can't help himself, can he? Tho it's quite rare to see this much of bad takes in one cover from him – someone pls get him a calming tea or something... “Cry on my shoulder”, but performed in a way that does NOT give you any confidence in said offer)))
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FWz50EZjUY
Take two, this time around more seriously. Fine, since I'm vulnerable, in pain and was always easy to begin with – come here, Ning-ge, I need your manly assistance for a moment!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgFDcZpfE30
Surely, a love song called “Elimination” is not about mutual happiness and rainbows either, right? Totally not my style of Sad Ballad, though he does his usual best to improve it, but maybe I'm just not suited for a proper angst... Gotta give this video a few additional points for an earring and that one button he so “generously” forgot about:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgC1vm1DgE0
Last week his cover of Jeff Chang's song did well among yall, so when I encountered another one, I knew I'll have to use it! It doesn't sound THAT depressing, but with a title “Want to love you” at least we know for sure it's romantic. Btw, was that a special day or what? He's quite overdressed here – a suit jacket, an earring, is that a lapel pin???, even some long ruined attempt to style his hair (this ash brown color is pretty nice on him, much better than darker tones). He almost looks presentable enough for a formal gathering, awww)))
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz55ThDPrZY
While the name “Gulf of Alaska” alone is not necessarily bringing sad vibes to anyone, it does for me – I LOATHE cold and mostly prefer winter from the warm safety of my room – so place where it's pretty much ALWAYS freaking cold doesn't promise a good time to me personally. Lyrics are 200% emo tho – hah, I knew it! Features a wonderfully flip-floppy hero who cannot decide for the life of his whether he wants his ex to move on and be happy or to stay lonely and eventually take him back – dude, pick a side lol! Ofc, no explanation of Alaska stuff is provided – those poets and their “it only makes sense in my head” allusions!
Give me his hat, imma burn it!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlUJjrXxnrQ

This song I believe I posted before – its way more famous (like 2.5M views on YT alone famous) version, but this time I've found it subbed! Granted, with lyrics it's not all that depressing anymore
plus that one line in the chorus gives me a LONG pause, but I'm too lazy to be picky about that. Title is epic though – almost too epic, I kinda feel the rest of the song is not on par - “Ten thousand times of sorrow”. Would've make a great xianxia drama, probably...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-g0KNZgGDk
Now those are the shoulders that look perfectly leanable, finally!More post-breakup poetry – at least this time the hero is not very petty and fully intends to move on himself. Someday. With a lot of effort. Good for him, I guess. Hence the title “Forget the time”:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv-LQerHN9s
Dat thumbnail, lmao! On a serious note, it sounds REALLY sad – even his voice nearly cracking multiple times and funnily unruly hair that keeps sticking out (which is a common big problem for him, we'll discuss it in detail later, it's a really funny topic) couldn't liven things up very much. Title is “One star”:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZfnl2nF5VE
And then I've also found a subbed version and man, those lyrics are freaking EXTRA! Author needs to chill a bit, really. The “I've exhausted my tenderness for you” line is simply brutal, you can probably kill and bury someone with that wording... Respect^^
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2ETDtUvcYY
Bonus: Ning-ge wishing us a warm upcoming autumn
with his hotness, I presume – was that bedroom glare truly necessary?!in the middle of filming yet another variety show. Which will air in few days, I believe, so we'll get even more pretty:https://x.com/liu_yuning08/status/1821190620821528840

I just watched the Olympics and there was yet another post-competition wedding proposal, (is that the 4th? or 5th? and as always I think with these that it would be interesting, if sad for the person on one knee, if the proposal was turned down while being watched by millions on global t.v.
But then I vaguely remember a kdrama rom-com that had that as an opening, where the guy planned an elaborate spectacle with a lot of observers and the woman turned him down. I don't recall which one it was though. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I know there is one famous clip from about 3 or 4 years ago at a U.S. baseball game, where the guy kneels down and opens a box to reveal one of those rock sugar candy rings and the woman swears at him and slaps him, but as I recall there was a lot of suspicion at the time that the whole thing was staged.
Obviously there has to be some certainty on the part of the proposer that the answer will be yes before you take such a public risk. But I remember when I proposed, after my wife and I had been dating for a year and I was pretty secure in her affection for me, still I wanted to keep it informal and very private just in case her answer was "no, I want to wait" so it wouldn't blow our whole relationship. But I guess there are different levels of confidence!
As for the Olympics, it seemed to me the Chinese badminton player was actually a little annoyed at the proposal coming from her boyfriend. I predict that marriage will not last long. I did really like the proposal from French steeplechase runner, who set a national record in her race and then proposed to her boyfriend. But even that made me a little uneasy, because I read that they'd been together for 9 years. She could have been really annoyed that he couldn't make the commitment, and decided it was time to use a public stage to force it!

Yes. As for proposing to someone who has just won, READ THE ROOM! Today is about her, not you!
I haven't seen any of the proposals, but I get all angry here, thinking of that.
The thing about public proposals is that even if you know she wants to marry you, doing it publicly takes "?" out of the equation. It becomes a "You LLLucky wench! You just won yourself a husband!" rather than just a moment of fragile happiness.
So to me choosing private is allways the right option ... unless your other has explicitly expressed their dream of a flashmob orchestra - balloons falling from above - bus arriving with chorus line dancers - the mascot was really your love disguised as a fuzzy penguin - kind of proposal.

I personally did not like that Wang Yaqiong being proposed after winning a gold, her boyfriend basically stole her thunder. Her award winning, her prouest moment and her hard work will be forever linked with the proposal. And the news did not help, calling her winning a gold and a diamond at the same time, as if her being proposed was at the same level of achievement as her winning a gold. In fact, I think without some prior consent or understanding from the other part, any public proposal is in some way a form of coercion.

I don't know if I'll post this again but I just had to get it out: Big Mouth is just so stupid to me.
I thought maybe it's one of those shows where after some time away from it, I would have a new appreciation for it but as SOON as I saw a clip from it, all I could think was it was so dumb. Then I tried to think of it as an action type drama so the focus isn't on plot or storytelling so much as rule of cool and I guess that's kinda were it works but only a little. The right fanvid or edits could probably make the show look so freaking cool. Such as all the times when just a look is enough to cower people.
But ugh, it's just... ugh to me
