A friend asked me for some K-drama recs and I made this list for her. Of course, it’s non-exhaustive but I only had a short time. From my list you may think that I haven’t been getting into too much kdrama recently but that’s because I’ve started watching things halfway which I’ve never done before so that’s why I don’t have recent materials listed as I have yet finished them to give my option. Here’s the list:

Romantic Comedy:
-My ID is Gangnam Beauty
-I’m Not a Robot

Revenge of housewives:
-Avenger social club

Touching about family:
-Go Back Spouses

Melo yet moving (makes you think about life and what you are living for):
-My Ajusshi
-Prison playbook
-SKY Castle
-A Beautiful World

It’s just good haha:
-Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim
-Live

Suspense/Crime:
-Forest of Secrets
-Signal

Comedy, suspense, very overacting in a good way:
-An Empress’s Dignity
-Graceful Family

    That’s a good list.

I’d add 30B17 to romcom, My Fellow Citizens to comedy and Just Dance to “It’s just good”.

I have to say, I have a strange and beautiful love for Avenger’s Social Club. it may be a bit cheap and bit naff but I could honestly rewatch it a million times and never get tired of it.

I haven’t seen 30B17 yet, am half way through My Fellow Citizens and haven’t heard of Just Dance.
Avenger’s Social Club holds a special place in my heart, especially for the sismance.

Maybe I’ll pick up my fellow citizens again!

I was almost hesitant for that one as the ending was so abrupt but still, everyone’s gotta watch this to fall for our crazy emperor hahah

Lol. It’s a double edge sword. One will fall for crazy emperor or hate him. I wish everyone falls for him. He was a misunderstood coffee loving fluffball with childhood trauma. Hahahha

Ah, I totally forgot about the possibility of the other side!

Love your list! For what it’s worth, if I were to make a list, here are some dramas I would add to the dramas in your list:

For crime, I like Life on Mars and Watcher. In the general suspense genre, I like Heartless City. For romantic comedy, I like Jealousy Incarnate. For legal drama/slice-of-life, I liked Diary of a Prosecutor, Confession, and Hyena (still watching this, but it’s good!). For all da feelz, I like Misaeng. For most polarizing, I nominate W – Two Worlds (I will go to my grave arguing this is actually a great show overall).

      Most polarizing?! 😂 second that!

I couldn’t bring myself to watch past the first few minutes of misaeng as it just felt very depressing? Hearing all the good reviews for it, I even questioned whether I was watching the right show or not.

It’s good! But it is a difficult watch in many ways. Maybe ‘cathartic’ is the right word? I don’t know.

            I haven’t watched My Ahjussi, so I can’t say!

Keeping some of those recs for myself, thanks!
The tale of Nokdu or Moonlight drawn by clouds can also be good gateways into Dramaland,l. At least for me, sageuk costumes, hairdos and sets are totally fascinating, they are what drew me in.

Glad to be at your service 🙂

I’m about halfway through Nodku and haven’t touched moonlight.
I enjoyed Nodku in the beginning but when it started getting serious, I put it on hold for when I’m in the mood for some tears and pain.

Yes, it gets a bit angsty… I really enjoyed the widow village part, and was a bit disappointed by the direction the show took. Fortunately the last episode is lovely and wraps everything up nicely

Sounds like the whole second half is going to be like that (angsty) then? with only the ending to redeem itself?

I don’t remember exactly the extent of the angst… but the chemistry of the OTP, the FL doing her own thing instead of typically just hanging out with the ML, and some comic relief scenes, all of that carried the show through the angsty bits for me. My overall recall of this drama is that it was nice. I don’t know how far you are, but I would definitely soldier on

I would add my two favorites of last year: WWW Search Query and Be Melodramatic. Comedy, I guess…

I haven’t seen either of these two but if they were comedy, maybe I’ll give them a try 😀

Those two dramas are 💚💚💚 It took me some episodes to get into Be Melo, but beared with it because of all the love it was getting here on DB, and didn’t regret it! It became one of my 2019 favourites too

Its always the beanie love and recs that gets us through to finding gems. I’ll keep these two on my list 😀
