I don’t dislike him. I’m only on ep 4 I think, maybe 5. And I never disliked him. I will say those first couple of eps when he was being so mean irritated me. In the flashbacks to their youth she hadn’t done anything to him that was deliberately mean. Thoughtless? Yep. Pushy? Yep. Selfish? Yep. She was a kid. They are known for that behavior. And she had a crush on him. So she doubled down on getting him to focus on her. Everything he’s doing he’s doing deliberately to be mean. She never did anything to be deliberately mean. As of ep 4/5 anyway. Maybe she does something worst that will justify his decade long punkishness. But I like that even as he’s trying to cling to his desire for revenge he’s just kind of drifting along in a crush against his will!
But right now? Im all about Little Sheep and his wide eyed, “I think she’s nice”. She is!
In his memory, she was this biggest bully he needed to get away from. He couldn’t get away because he was this meek and timid boy who didn’t know how to say “no, I don’t like what you’re doing to me”. I see where he is coming from. The trauma was there for him. He still wakes up from nightmare because of her. It might not be a big deal to her, or it might be something she did because she wanted to get his attention, but the fact remained that his childhood was not fun because of her.
Fast forward to 6 years later, he planned to bully his ex-bully and show her he wasn’t the same boy she could easily order around anymore. That fired back though as early as ep 3 because she is a shameless and badass woman who will not take any bullshit from anyone. I started laughing out loud from the library scene she started threatening him of the crazy things she would do if he didn’t stop.
He won me as early as episode 2 in the locker scene because he jumped in a heartbeat and protected her from embarrassment. She was there in the boys’ locker room for whatever reason. He was supposed to despise her, yet, here he was, shut his locker door immediately away from any prying eyes.
And then he started getting curious why she doesn’t skate anymore……
