His cameo in Doctor Detective’s first episode was brilliant, not over the top at all. He played a very quiet, caring, beat-down man who was slowly being worked to death. I barely got into that show because it was so boring, but his episode was a good hook.
I find it interesting that he hasn’t played a lead yet (unless you count Never Twice). Why can’t Kim Yoo-jung do projects with someone like him instead of men a decade older than her?!

I actually applauded at my screen at the very end of It’s Okay to Not Be Okay. Actual chills. Bravo, director, writer, and Kwak Dong-yeon.

Kwak Dong-yeon is a national treasure – as soon as I saw him onscreen, I knew we were in for a special performance!

To be honest, he’s sometimes a bit over-the-top for my tastes, but it worked here.
