I don’t tend to re-read a book, except some classics I read when I was too young to understand them, but I can’t help to return to Persuasion from time to time. It’s a beautiful story about second chances and self-affirmation, and a harsh criticism against the nobility in decline.
Persuasion is my favorite Austen novel. Pride and Prejudice is delicious fun, but Persuasion is just a bit grittier and more emotionally complex. While still wafting in the upper echelons of British society, you see much more of the various class relations and lives, and how this affects the decisions and consequences that women face in respect to marriage and family.
