Beanies, I got really stressed because of the family fights in Episode 1. Is there a lot of angst in this show? I did like Daddy Li and would love to be fed at his noodle restaurant too, but I can’t stomach stressful scenes.

I know what you mean Toki. I guess this is hard watch but I found myself binging all available episodes at once cuz it’s just so heartwarming. This show is being promoted as a healing drama, so it’s about two boys who had found their home in the Li’s residence. I watch this family heal each other’s wounds and recover from pain of their past.

Ep 2 is when it grabbed my heart cuz that’s when the babies started settling in at the thought that they would be in each other’s lives forever with Daddy Li. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Anyways I hope I’m not setting myself up for disappointment for loving this series too much early in the game 😣😣😣😣😣😣

Who said that? You must have been at the wrong place since there was never a line after he adopted me. I am all he wanted and more.

There was a line. You forgot there was a line after you realized you were late in submitting your adoption papers and didn’t get adopted…….. #bbamnesia

It’s so heartwarming. @13infamyss was right when she called it similar to the reply series. One minute I’m crying, the other I’m laughing out loud but I’m so satisfied by every episode.

I’ve been watching this too. It’s a terrific cast all around, down to the supporting members. But I’m a little concerned about the near-incest kind of relationship that the show is heading towards. Makes me a little uncomfortable, TBH.

I’m quite far behind but this makes me uncomfortable too however, I just reminding myself that they aren’t related by birth and well just grew up together but their bond has been shown (at least in the earlier episodes) as true siblings.

It does not bother me actually. While growing up as children they do talk about marriage as a joke and very casually. You can also see how their relationship is changing/evolving.
And one of the boys is technically a neighbor.
The three kids form a bond after having endured some sufferings at a young age. They grow up as family and are very protective of each other. It’s a story about how these kids grow up, become an adult and how their relationship evolves as they enter the real world. (So far up to episode 14).

It’s also cultural I think. While growing up I called all boys who are older than me as brothers , but once I crossed an age I shifted to calling them by name.

The show really addresses this very nicely so far. But again, I didn’t feel uncomfortable to start with.

Hm. So yes, in my neck of the woods too, an older male friend would be called by a term which is the equivalent of ‘brother’, and yes, that changes with time. The terminology is not what affects me as much as the changing nature of the relationship does. The sibling-to-romantic-partner evolution is something I need to wrap my head around, and I am worried it will destabilize the quite charming found family dynamic and momentum they all have going right now.

I intend to keep watching, of course. I have admittedly enjoyed it so far. And having some really solid actors definitely helps.

I am looking to see if the (non)mothers have a more key role in their adulthood. I find it especially interesting that both the parents of both the boys are alive, but they regard Papa Li as their father 🙂

I understand. While I don’t see an issue with Ling Xiao and Jian Jian going to the romance route (they’re literally just childhood bestfriends to lovers in my eyes), I think I will be most appalled and disappointed if they chose to write Zi Qiu’s character as part of a love triangle. In my mind, he is a Li. He shares the same dad with Jian Jian and he and Jian Jian are legit siblings. I hope Zi Qiu’s character would focus more on accepting and healing than romance since he’s the one who feels like he doesn’t have a family he belongs to most (I mean he loves his Li family so much, but he did grow up while adults kept telling him he should be forever be indebted to Daddy Li).

@13infamyss Yes! It would be way more worse with Zi Qiu than with Ling Xiao. Zi Qiu needs to get it into his head that he really and truly does belong with and to Papa Li and Jian Jian, and nothing can ever change that, whatever the neighbourhood aunties might tell him. The scene between him and Papa Li was really well done. Steven Zhang is a good crier on screen!, I didn’t realise that until now – probably better than his other two co-stars in the show. (he didn’t have too much crying to do as Bing Bing or in MHF, the other two shows of his I have watched till now).

Yes. He’s such a good actor. You see Steven in this show and there’s just a pang in your heart. And the way he made Zi Qiu come to life and connect to you is just……. amazing. It also helps that Zi Qiu’s child actor was great and it help Steven to transition Zi Qiu’s character from a elementary to a highschool boy smoothly. The way they portrayed Zi Qiu’s character is consistent. They’re both amazing actors.

Steven can switch to light and serious roles easily. Well he makes it look easy. I love him for it.😭

Episode 5 remains my most favourite episode so far. SPOILER! How Steven tears up in the background yet at the same time not stealing the spot from Daddy Li as he expressed his reserved thoughts towards outsiders.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I call him “Papa Li”, and he should adopt me, or be my father-in-law. 😀
Easily, to me, he won titles of Fvorite character of the show and Best dad ever on C-drama, just in the first 2 eps!!!

I felt that he’s less a ‘Papa’, and almost ‘maternal’, really, in the conventional sense. Not just in his actions, but also in the way his character is sketched – he cooks the food, his is the welcoming house where everyone gathers, he is the nurturer, he is the worrier, and the emotional support for the children.

Yes. He is perfect. 😭 How to love him more each episode

I think he’s not that “maternal” in terms of raising kids, as Asian moms are more interfering, thus give their children way less space and freedom.
Even though he’s less a “Papa” than Papa Ling (who is a good dad as well, but more of a “traditional standard”), Papa Li uses his gentle words and kindness to treat the kids, and he speaks wisdom that always get to their hearts. ^^
