Emma is a lively and sweet young girl. In the beginning she’s immature, but she’s a good person. Her growth is satisfying to read (the Box Hill episode is so painful!).
I think Romola Garai was perfect in BBC “Emma” 2009.
True story: I once saw Romola Garai at a little cafe in London’s West End. We made eye contact and I tried very hard to look like I hadn’t recognised her, since she was obviously just there to enjoy a quick lunch. I failed miserably (at looking normal) and choked on my kebab.
Same! So then I watched him in Mansfield Park but that’s my least favorite Austen book to begin with so it wasn’t as fun. He’ll just be Mr. Knightley for me.
