I didn’t think Forest of Secrets 2 could get any more complicated, but in ep10 we’ve got not one, not two, but three women who might be pulling some kinda weird double bluff. Spoilers below:

    1. Did Prosecutor Jung Min-ha warn the Uijeongbu traffic cop about Shi-mok’s impending visit under the pretense of admitting to her investigative mistakes?
    2. Did Heart Attack Prosecutor’s wife promise Woo Tae-ha that she’d lie to Shi-mok, and then deliberately let the secretary tell SM the truth in her stead?
    3. Did Choi Bit just plant a witness to Dong-jae’s abduction, and an unreliable witness at that?

Yes! Prosecutor Jung reminds me so much of Eun-Soo’s (over-) eagerness. She’s so shady in her willingness to please.

      1. Well she prepped him, at the very least. Are they related?? He stonewalled Shi-mok and she is shady.
      2. Seems WTH is coercing her into keeping quite. She must be vulnerable in some way.
      3. OK, so there’s a train of thought I hadn’t picked up on. Looks like a rewatch is in order.
Oh, the suspense is too much …
I love Shi-mok’s methods of interrogation. He punches holes in people’s versions of events and they end up stunned and wondering what happened. The traffic cop, JMH and WTH all got it from him.

      Re: Point 3

I do have the same ideas for points 1 and 2, but for point 3, it didn’t even cross my mind. Why did you think that (unlike dramalover4ever, I am too lazy to do a rewatch hee…)?

During WTH and CB’s discussion about Shi-mok’s questioning of the traffic cop, WTH insisted on pulling SM from the investigation, disregarding CB’s argument that it was too obvious. Yeo-jin popped in to announce the arrival of Uijeongbu informants re: Nasty Police Chief’s fake overtime claims. Immediately after YJ left, CB told WTH she had a better way of removing “them” (SM and YJ?) from the investigation.

I thought that might have been a lightbulb moment for CB to do the following: set up an unreliable witness with a criminal record, haul Nasty Police Chief in on the pretext of false overtime claims, provoke him with the unreliable witness’ post, and sit back and enjoy the fireworks. In the meantime, SM and YJ are running around searching for the unreliable witness, investigating the other Segok cops, etc. Also, the witness has to be unreliable cos Nasty Police Chief might really be innocent, in which case CB can just discredit the witness and release Nasty Police Chief.

So when the Yongsan Choi discovered the police watch in the photo, CB was probably ecstatic – her set-up was coinciding with the truth. Of course Director Shin was furious cos it would mess up their demand for more investigative rights, but CB looked like she was trying not to smile in the final scene. If my theory is right, then it’s no wonder CB has to shoulder WTH’s guilt – she must be much more formidable than he is.

But I’m still wondering what her stake is in this cover up. What does she have to gain/lose? Interfering in a police investigation like that is pretty serious, and for a senior officer, heinous. A life is at stake. Although she’s prematurely closed off the investigation into the death of Park Gwang-su, this is a step further into the abyss if that is what she’s done. I’ve got so many questions that I will have to save until the recap. It’s killing me.

My theory could be completely wrong, but there’s no doubt CB and WTH are terrified at the prospect of being exposed. I mean, the usually composed CB racing down corridors? The usually avuncular WTH losing it several times in full view of his team? Whatever they are, the stakes must be sky high. Which is weird, cos Park Gwang-su’s death looks dodgy but not THAT dodgy. Yup I’m dying from the suspense too.

Oh, I so agree. Some of my speculation:
Choi Bit is invested in covering Park Gwang-su’s death up – is it only to protect herself? Or is it to protect the police? The latter seems more likely, but what have the police actually done or failed to do? So far, it seems they have covered up a suspicious death and failed to investigate it properly. She was in charge of the station at the time, so she was the one to close the case prematurely. Who pressured her to do that? Was it WTH? Why? If her husband has a company that is connected to Hanjo, then if Park Gwang-su’s death posed a risk to the continued life of Hanjo, then her actions may have been to protect her family.
Woo Tae-hee must be implicated – is it only to protect himself? Or is it to protect the prosecution? We know he has done some insider dealing with cryptocurrency. Who, if anyone, pressured him to pressure Choi Bit? Who are his superiors? Or was it a Minister? Was it personal or was it about the prosecution’s power? Was he also protecting his family’s dodgy dealings in getting rid of their cryptocurrency?

Thanks Knewbie for your detailed explanation. Urghh… I need time and brain power to process all this, this show is either making me more clever or more dumb haha

      3. From the preview e11, look like SM and YJ have some doubt about the witness. Not sure if he is planted by CB or WTH. There was a scene of WTH visiting DJ’s crime scene.

Agreed with your assessment for 1 and 2. And it’s probably true for 3 too.

I find CB’s character absolutely fascinating – similar to LCJ in Ep 1 but in somewhat different vein. WTH’s comments in the bar about her shouldering everything for others depicts a big story behind involving both police and prosecution as well as Hanjo.

I’m thinking along those lines too, but how and why did she get enmeshed in something like that.
