unless Ji-pyeong hid how much the letters meant to him back then too, I’m not quite sure I’ve seen enough to believe that he developed feelings for Dal-mi. Also, in any other drama, the jig would be up and Dal-mi would date JP and friend-zone DS. Alas. But, this is also only episode 9. Who knows. Who knows.

Hey. I was thinking the same thing. Sure, he’s attracted to her but I can’t relate on how strong those feelings are.

he nearly cried! I think though, after seeing Do-san, he is more resentful of what he missed out on. He seems more interested in being included in family activities than being Dal-mi’s “other”.

I think he also felt the strong connection with DalMi back then. He was alone in the world and found a family in halmoni and also comfort in the letters, because he could also comfort DalMi. There’s this scene in episode one in which he goes to the bird house and he has a wide smile when he sees the letter inside, seats on the kerbstone devouring her letter. I think his feelings began there, like DalMi’s. But life was tougher for him than for DalMi, as he was alone in the world and felt betrayed by the one person he ever trusted.
He still has those letters. We praise DalMi because she still has those letter, but he also kept them.
And then he get to meet the present DalMi, and at first he feels indebted, but then I believe he got those feelings back, and besides she is beautiful, and someone he’s shared so many things back then. And what’s more important: she remembers them, she remembers every detail about what he told her. How touching can it be for someone who have lived his whole live alone to finally find someone who knows a part of him so well?
This is why I believe in his feelings. He may have not recognize them at first, because he’s not good with feelings, he’s not good with love. He hasn’t felt much love in his life (parents, siblings, friends).
        This is what hurts me.
On the other side, I’m also hurt by DoSan and how low his self esteem is and how he’s found the way to regain it by being the man who will stand by DalMi’s side.
        Both of them are heartbreaking.

Yep, also Do-san tends to be more open about his feelings compared to Ji-pyeong who is less open about them. In Ep 3, we see how Do-san is confident about his feelings for Dal-mi, whereas JP is in denial. Although I feel like sometimes Do-san’s like for Dal-mi doesn’t extend beyond the physical sometimes. It feels a bit shallow in comparison to her long history with Ji-pyeong & the letters that supported her and shaped her worldview. That’s something one doesn’t just throw away imo.

I think he didn’t think much of her in Ep 1, since they were just teens. But we seen scenes where he seems to relish in writing towards her, and it seems with her, he found a soul mate that got him and vice versa. Both of them leaned on another to get through the hard times together. It’s just one person (JP) didn’t act upon those feelings. Love isn’t just about timing, but fighting for it. Whatever happens here, I hope it goes out naturally as it can be.

Ep 9 was heartbreaking for me, I just hope that since the lies go out, that Ji-pyeong’s storyline/character doesn’t get downgraded in expense of DS/DM’s story. I think KSH has been a great addition here, and ngl but his character/love triangle aspect here is what gets its popularity let’s be real.

Although in Ep 9, I was a bit turned off by how rash he was towards JP in the car scene. Like dude, man up, and ask JP to go along the ride since he has the most connection with Halmoni than you do. UGH, I just want JP to confront/act on those feelings and tell DM his true feelings. At least get it out there, so there’s no misunderstandings. Hmm…now with Alex back, I wonder if he won’t be their mentor anymore after this and Alex will be :((

I totally agree with you, specially with DoSan and being attracted only physically to DalMi and the car. I’ve just wrote abut it in my wall.

I understand that everyone in this story has certain issues; however, it’s still heartbreaking to see Do-san inviting everyone to a ‘date’ -everyone excluding JP. That one was so heartbreaking my head couldn’t find any rationale for such scene tbh. The reason why I was so hurt is because those people in Do-san’s car, and perhaps him too, are the JP’s ‘family.’ His grandma was there, his pen pal aka love interest was also there, even his ‘very close younger brother’ was also there. I truly felt for JP character regardless of whether the writer, the actors felt the same way with me or not.

@mmmmm that’s exactly how I felt. It was truly heartbreaking.

Yes to all of this. I didn’t really buy that JP had feelings for DM until after the birthday scene where she remembered his wish. His face in that moment, you could just tell how much it meant to him to have someone “know” him.

I would also like to believe my inkling that he just want to be acknowledged as the first love but his feelings aren’t romantic, I mean passionate romance. He feels jealous because he layed out the foundation this Do San person turned up to be. Give this man a credit. That’s what I think 🤔

Makes sense. It’s more of the feeling of missing out…
