Oh no SLS again 🙁

    I haven’t started this one yet, but from the reviews that I’ve read– yes, the purpose of his character is basically to offer a choice to the FL and to give viewers SLS, and not even a liiiiiittle SLS, but like, MAJOR SLS…..

    How far into the drama are you?? How are you finding it so far??

      I’ve skimmed through the raws up to ep 41. A part of me wished that it ended there lol. I still intend to finish it but maybe with english subs coz I only understood 20% of the convesrsations. I like wolfie and the FL. Their love story is touching but it’s too angsty for me, an emotional torture. SML had a cool entrance and first meeting with FL. He has a great character, did a lot for the FL, has more interactions with her, his kingdom took her in and her servants totally ships them. How could I not have an SLS. Sigh.. anyway Im still glad I watched it coz the story, characters, actors, cinematography and music are good. Xiao Zhan did well acting as Ji Chong 👍 One of the best 2nd male lead for me.

        I’m waiting for access to more episodes before I begin it—might even wait until ALL the episodes are out before starting it— as I don’t think I’d be patient enough to pace myself watching it and then have to wait for access to more episodes. I refuse to pay for VIP on iQiyi for immediate access to all the episodes and I’m definitely not paying for a Viki Pass to get access to advance release episodes.

        I know that, to date, Ji Chong has been the character with the greatest challenge for Xiao Zhan:

        While filming “The Wolf”, he actually personally made the choice to go back to school—more specifically, a graduate program that had something to do with acting/production, etc.— and so he would be on the set of “The Wolf” during the day, then attend night classes, and as then semester went on, he actually brought his homework (research he had to do for his graduate thesis) with him on set and whenever he wasn’t running lines with his coworkers or memorizing his own lines for the drama, he would be doing his homework.

        On a professional level, he was thrust into A-List second lead status with “The Wolf” and his character, Ji Chong, without much prior acting experience. I think at this time, he had only done a really cringe-y “idol” drama that didn’t receive much attention (because it was so cringe-y), a bit part in “Shuttle Love Millennium”, and was the second male lead in the drama “Oh! My Emperor” (co-starring Zhao Lu Si) wherein it was just a low-profile (web??) drama that was produced for the sake of promoting X-NINE (the group that he’s supposedly still attached to, because no official statement of them disbanding has ever been put out— sort of like the situation Wang Yi Bo is in with his group, UNIQ)….

        I’ve been hearing really good things about “The Wolf” and his SML character, and I’m to start it when I finally do!! 😊😊😊

          Yeah it’s better to binge watch it with Eng subs. He appeared at Ep 11. Legend of Fei has not yet released so at the moment I do not have a historical Cdrama to watch and decided to check out The Wolf and got hooked. When it was first announced I only know Darren in the cast. That was 3 years ago and I completely forgot about it until now. I have not watched The Untamed but I watched Super Star Academy (yes I watch cringy idol dramas sometimes and thought he was cute but the story is weird) and Oh My Emperor (I ship the FL and the uncle more than the emperor, the song there by his group is good). Glad that I was able to watch it and re-discover him. I will be watching Oath of Love when it gets released.

            Since Wang Yi Bo seems to be China’s “goldeneye boy” right now, I think MANY people are waiting for “Legend of Fei” to air 😅😅

            Yea, I’m not sure why “The Wolf” was postponed for 3 years 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤔🤔 I don’t think ANYONE knows…. It’s definitely one of Darren Wang’s most anticipated works, because it is his first ever historical drama and the drama that his late mother anticipated and wanted to watch the most, and Xiao Zhan’s first drama after “The Untamed” (which I HIGHLY recommend) where he’s actually a major character (he didn’t have a really big role in “Joy of Life”). I am definitely getting impatient with waiting for “Oath of Love” 😅😅

            @bebeswtz I was looking forward to it coz of the FL actress and I read bits of the novel. It’s martial arts heavy. The male lead’s character is also unique. Hope that they adapt it well but I will not set high expectations lol.
            Do you know if Xiao Zhan is using his real voice in The Wolf? I think it’s the same voice he has in the Oath of Love trailer. I have high respects to those who use their real voice or dub themselves coz lately the voice of MLs in Cdramas sound the same lol. If not it’s okay.

            @reijeanne

            For the trailer of “The Wolf”, it’s definitely Xiao Zhan’s own personal voice 👌🏻 I haven’t began actually watching the drama, since I’m waiting for more episodes before I start it, but I just chose a little snippet of Episode 11 to watch just to check out the voicing done in the drama and I can tell you this:
            All 3 of our leads are definitely dubbed, and sadly, none of them dubbed their own voice (but the voice actor that dubbed Xiao Zhan has a VERY similar voice to his, it’s just a liiiiiittle bit higher in pitch compared to Xiao Zhan’s real voice… It’s so similar, in fact, I actually had to keep listening a few times before confirming that it’s actually not really Xiao Zhan’s beautiful voice).

            Here is actually a really good explanation to how dubbing for Chinese dramas work, for the most part. It explains why many drama characters’ dubbing sounds the same, why or why not an actor/actress may or may not dub their own drama characters, why almost 99% of period dramas will definitely be dubbed, etc. … I hope this helps!! 😉😉

            @reijeanne

            Both, Xiao Zhan and Yang Zi, do not have their voices dubbed AT ALL for the trailer of “The Oath of Love”, and let’s cross our fingers and hope that it stays this way and that their voices are not dubbed in the final product of the drama itself (as we can see from “The Wolf” that the trailer vs. the final product of the drama that goes on air can be very different

      I just finished episode 16 (which is all that is subbed) and I am enjoying it. Granted SL will always be Wei Wuxian for me. But I am curious where the story will go. I think our SML is captured by the FL because she sees and accepts him for who he is – which is always wonderful.
      But I am only 16 eps in and can see from the intro that there is another female character.
      Overall, for all it’s flaws, I still like it and am enjoying watching it.
      Sean is always a treat for the eyes and heart….

        From reading the reviews from MyDramaList, I actually know what’s going to happen and who the other FL is (SFL?? Like SML?? Haha) and what happens to who and who ends up with who, but it’s actually not deterring me from still wanting to watch this one 😊 The power of Sean Xiao Zhan 😅😅😍😍🥰🥰😘😘 So yes, I agree that he’s always a treat for the eyes AND the heart (it’s not always the case that I consider someone a treat for both, the eyes & heart…. He has both for me ❤️)

          Oh I don’t want to know any spoilers! Darren Wang who plays the wolf boy is new to me. His acting is somewhat uneven to me, but still he’s grown on me.
          Li Qin is fantastic as she goes from spunky to hurt then strong and smart.
          Mostly though I love the music – all of it.

            No worries, I won’t post spoilers 😅😅😅

            Surprisingly, I actually haven’t watched any of Li Qin’s or Darren Wang’s previous dramas, so I cannot comment on their acting in “The Wolf”, abut I have seem them in variety and reality shows, and I like their real life personality ☺️

            Yes!!!!!! Like, I said, I’ve not started the drama yet, but I HAVE already downloaded the OST/instrumental score for it and I love love love it 😍

        A bit of a spoiler but from what I skimmed, he’s not the only one who did things for the FL, the FL also helped him resolve his issues. They have a good relationship. 🙂

          Yay!!! A female lead in a historical Chinese drama where the story isn’t about a strong female lead (like “Legend of Fei”, “Princess Weiyoung”, “Journey of Flower”) but she’s still a strong character and is able to return what’s been given to her by the males and isn’t in distress nor is she a Candy 👍🏻👍🏻💪🏻💪🏻👌🏻👌🏻
