2020 Round Up
Day 8 – the OTP you didn’t think you’d adore

I’m trading on the emphasis of the “didn’t think I would” element of today’s theme and am surprised to report that the OTP is actually Cha Joo-eun and Lee Jung-hwan of the inconsistent and somewhat baffling drama Private Lives, played by Seohyun and Go Kyung-pyo.

I started watching this show for the James Bond-esque premise and slick look; I stayed for the disguises and the OTP. In a story that had a hard time focusing and often got tangled in its details, the consistency and intensity of the OTP was probably the only straight arrow of the entire drama. Both Go Kyung-pyo and Seohyun give solid performances, and I really believed they were mad for each other through all the ups and downs and unknowns of their relationship. I’m sad that the story didn’t serve them (or the rest of the cast, frankly) better – this could have been a great show and, as far as 2020 OTPs go, they are the couple that surprised me the most in terms of how much I was cheering for them.

Runners up:
Doo-hee and Hae-kyung of Dinner Mate fame (played by Seo Ji-hye and Song Seung-ho): they don’t perfectly fit this category, since I knew I’d be pulling hard for them before I even started the show. But I didn’t realize how hard I’d rabidly dig in for them the more the exes ran roughshod over the story;
Kang Ah-reum and Jeon Ji-hun in the currently running The Spies Who Loved Me (played by Yoo In-na and Eric Mun): this one feels a bit controversial considering everyone’s current marital status and the fact that the show isn’t yet over. But with 4 episodes left, I’m hardcore Team Ji-hun and willing to own it because their chemistry is electric. #sorrynotsorry

    Doo-hee and Hae-kyung were so nice together! I’m trying to forget everything about Dinner mate except them and those cute first episodes.

    Ah-reum and Ji-hun have great chemistry, too. I’m only at ep.5, but there have been sparks between them from the pilot and they are so comfortable with each other that is a pleasure to watch their interactions. I root for them, too.

      I’m with you on choosing to remember only the OTP in Dinner Mate!

      And I really like what they’re doing in Spies by peeling back the layers of both marriages. It’s really fascinating (but I’ll admit that I’m really glad you’re on the same OTP team 😅).
