Love, February 5th (yes, I know it’s the sixth already…)

    Kdramas.
How many hours I have spent with just you, binge watching at all hours, unable to stop?

I was known back in college for kdrama watching among my friends, who rarely condescended to join into my madness. I was unabashed, unashamed.

As the years have gone on, I have become more reticent about my choice in tv shows, with no desire to have that conversation with acquaintances or workmates or even friends until we reach a certain intimacy.

Earlier today, while I ate dinner before my nightshift, Pie Guy came over to watch the latest episode of Lovestruck in the City.
Had he ever watched more than an episode of a kdrama before this? Yes.
Did he text me earlier in the day excited about the new episode? Also Yes.

(Originally, we planned to watch both episodes together on fridays to have an hour of planned tv time, but the cliffhangers got him, and now we watch them the same day they air)
(Him last week: these cliffhangers are awful! They are such obvious bait to lure us into watching the next episode! *Pauses a moment, then gestures at himself and the screen* Well, obviously they work…)

I’m not sure where I’m going with this, but having a significant other make an effort to join me in what I like, and then begin to enjoy it too, is a joy I haven’t experienced before.

Now I just have to learn to like scifi more for him…

    Love, February

*ponders where to find my own pie guy* Good luck with the sci fi thing. I have trouble reading it and watching it.

Guy Pie is so right about those cliffhangers…
As a lover of Kdramas and science fiction, I hope you enjoy whatever he proposes. My very first choice to someone who’s never watched would be Battlestar Galactica: first the miniseries, and if you like, go on with the rest. To me is one of the best TV shows ever, and it should be shown in schools. That’s how good I think it is.

I’ve heard that’s a great show! Just never been interested… I guess now is the time to try!

Pie Guy is into watching Battlestar with me haha ~ suggested that and Firefly per @ally-le and he prefers Battlestar for a rewatch at the moment.

Firefly is another great choice, sure you’ll love it, BUT it was cancelled in the middle of its first season and it can be frustrating (not everything is solved or solved the way you’d love in the movie).

The movie is called “Serenity.”Watch it after you see the cancelled series.

Omg! So cute! And yes, you will learn to like sci-fi’s! Have you guys seen the Firefly series? I didn’t like them until I saw this! Browncoats unite!

Science Fiction covers a lot of different genres…and I& you include the Fantasy part, really huge in scope. Almost anything you have in non-SF&F can be found in SF&F. What do you like in non-SF&F? Perhaps some of us fans can make recommendations?

That’s a good point! I do like fantasy generally! He has watched a few episodes of the fantasy dramas if he comes over while I’m watching ~ Like, Tale of Gumiho, or the Eternal Monarch, etc.

He’s really into space shows, though, like The Expanse currently.

          Lol, thanks Azzo!

Pie Guy is my best friend and boy toy. He says I cannot use the term sugar daddy anymore because, although he is older (by a whole year!), and makes more money than me, which he uses to buy us sushi, it’s creepy.

(Also not allowed to call him oppa. Because calling him “brother,” even in another language, is also a no-no.)

Reflecting, he likely will dislike the term boy toy too. Killjoy.

😂 Would he approve of the Pie Guy nickname?

I’m with Pie Guy when it comes to nicknames. I would find calling my partner oppa very unsettling (but I’m not Korean, so I’m coming at it from a very different cultural perspective/background).

I haven’t managed to learn to like sci-fi either, but after over a decade of marriage, I don’t think there’s been any irreparable harm.🤞 A number of our other interests align, and some days, he chooses what we watch, so I think it works. Maybe slightly skewed to my advantage.😉 He does enjoy the supernatural element in K-dramas (the ones with ghosts, or ones like Mystic Pop Up Bar), so we both win when we watch shows like that.😄

@raonah & @mellowarmadillo yeah, the nicknames are a bit of a joke, I like coming up with off the wall ones like boytoy and sugar daddy to make him laugh. (He knows I do it for fun, no hard feelings, but his face when I say them is hilarious)

Usually I just call him by his name! He does know he’s referred to as Pie Guy here, and he says it makes sense as I don’t share real names online.

I’m not sure you’ll start to like Sci-fi but you’ll start to watch them for sure.. I’ve started for SNG and we’re now watching the Korean ones so I’m trying to convince myself that we’re both winning at this 😂
