While Eumseom’s Tribal Chic look was certainly traumatising, I don’t think Psycho Elf Boy received enough attention. Hence the appreciation post LOL.

He was deviously great for a few episodes before the bad writing ruined him

Can you imagine him and the original flower boy Lee Junki in a cross dressing sageuk together? They’d give the Rivendell elves a run for their money lol.

Wow he looks sooo pretty with long hair and strong makeup. I’m intrigued, but Arthdal Chronicles seems to gain so much hate from the beanies so I’m not sure if I should watch it. Any advice?

Song Joong-ki gave a fine performance as male twins Saya (above) and Eunseom (not pictured). He was not the problem with AC. There was also the great Eunseom-Ipsaeng bromance (SJK and Kim Sung-cheol).

@wishfultoki, how about providing an image of SJK as Eunseom in his BLUE LAGOON look?
(Technically I don’t know how to do it.)

Sure, I include Magic Horse as a bonus (SJK always looks good on a horse don’t you think?)

@purplefall Alas I can’t recommend Arthdal. It was certainly different to regular kdramas and started with a bang, but it got bogged down by some puzzling writing choices. TvN’s decision to divide it into 3 parts and then spring a Season 2 announcement on us without warning did not help at all. *feels mad all over again*

If you are interested, I’d recommend watch Episode 1-2 for Magic Horse and Carrot Boy. Then skip to Episode 7, where you will meet Saya (aka: Psycho Elf Boy). Nothing much happens in between except lots of unwanted cruelty by the Arthdal troops. At the start of Ep 7 there is a handy recap of the few important events in Episodes 1-6.

Wow love your pic! And thanks for the guide haha, I’ll definitely follow that to save me some eye rolling 😀

@WishfulToki I binge watched AC yesterday and wow I’m glad I did it. There are plot holes left and right, but the entertaining values are truly top notch. Everything looks high quality, and everyone looks so so pretty. I also like the way they explore the theme of human weakness and betrayal, and the fact that all the characters are morally questionable at some points. I also like that Eunseom gains people’s acceptance without hiding his Igutu origin. I can see how Eunseom and Tanya will form the “good” force that upends the ruthless ruling in Arthal. However, I’m not sure about the role of Saya in the trio. His character is like 50 shades of grey. Will he go all the way to hell or will he let his brutal side be subdued by Tanya and side with Eunseom? Anyway, so many questions are left unanswered at the end of season 1, can’t wait for season 2 ;D

Wait what?? You binged the whole thing!! Most… impressive. Did you sleep last night? Maybe it works better as a binge-watch, without the stupid divisions into Parts 1-3.

By the end of it I wasn’t sure if Tanya was that “good” either. But yeah, the most intriguing character for me was Saya. My guess is that he will side with Tanya and Eunseom eventually because he is the “mirror” of the prophecy, but probably after he goes all the way to hell, since he was headed that way by the end of Season 1.

@WishfulToki Yeah I didn’t plan to binge watch it, it just happened that way, I managed to have 4 hours of sleep though haha. To be honest, I FF a lot of cheesy and disturbing dialogues between the backstabbing couple Tagon-Taealha. I found that they have more interesting interactions with other characters than with each other. Their relationship is doomed from the moment they make that silly promise not to sacrifice for each other (who in the right mind would do that?!!). But yeah I agree that AC feels great as a binge-watch, I can’t imagine watching this season in parts over a span of 9 months!
As for Tanya, I put “good” because while she’s no longer that naive and pure girl, she hasn’t abandoned all of her conscience for greed and survival like many in her tribe. For a weak girl in such dire situation, she’s doing great job staying afloat imo. However, I also think she gives out irresponsible advice of “following your heart” to the waifs. It’s a radical advice even in today’s standard, let alone in the ruthless state of Arthdal. Among the trio, I have a feeling that Saya will be the one that is most concerned with the prophecy and eventually makes it a self-fulfilling prophecy. Whatever his ending is, I hope he survives till the last ep so that I have plenty of time swoon over his pretty look XD.

@purplefall, I am glad you enjoyed AC but there will be no season 2 for me (if there is one). 18 episodes at about 1 hour and 25 minutes each is all I am willing to commit. I can’t even remember now but if writer-nim couldn’t bring together whatever it was that had to be reunited in that amount of time well, sorry, I am done.

@bong-soo I don’t blame you. I’m not sure if I’d have been able to enjoy AC this much if I had had to watch it in parts. AC format is so unconventional for k-drama, not to mention uneven writing, inept administration and poor communication from the production team.

Haha I looked it up and your Blue Lagoon reference is perfect LOL. That look reminds me of SJK in A Werewolf Boy. I think I might give it a try while I’m anxiously waiting for Vincenzo ep 17 😀
