How good is your German @mmmmm? Schubert was a master of composing “Lieder”, songs with lyrics taken from poetry. There are dozens. For example:

      – For baritone: https://youtu.be/frHP6BM4Idg

Ohhhh thank you dear @wishfultoki 🥰. I used to be able to use German quite effectively, but that was years ago. I’ll come back to these pieces once I finish presenting this presentation! (Yes, I’m in the middle of a class 😳 oof)

This one is so beautiful, but I will stop because there are too many in each song cycle.

      Translation of lyrics:

      You are repose
      and gentle peace.
      You are longing
      and what stills it.

      Full of joy and grief
      I consecrate to you
      my eyes and my heart
      as a dwelling place.

      Come in to me
      and softly close
      the gate
      behind you.

      Drive all other grief
      from my breast.
      Let my heart
      be full of your joy.

      The temple of my eyes
      is lit
      by your radiance alone:
      O, fill it wholly!

Schubert is one of my favorite composers. So delicate and poignant. I think it was Schumann who said Schubert’s music was like sunlight shining through the clouds.

Ooooh I loved this! I don’t like adultery stories so I have been hesitant to watch SLA… but the music angle is tempting.

I felt the same way and that’s why it took me a long time to watch it even though I love PD Ahn and writer Jung. They are my all time favorite writer PD combo. I trust them the most with controversial topics because they handled them in genuine and sensitive manner. I always feel like I’m watching an authentic modern sageuk.
Having said that I was still hesitant but the raving reviews from Thundie’s blog which I frequently visited more than DB finally made me watch it and I’m glad I didn’t miss out on this masterpiece. I’d even say that it was the closest to perfection, from the writing, directing, storytelling, acting, music etc. I wasn’t even into classical music prior but this drama was my conversion.
I’d say try it even for the music alone.
