    I haven’t seen it yet.
So what did we guess, right?
    Yay for @ally-le.

I wish our comments from the old thread were part of your excellent recaps. We did guess early on that Dae-yeop’s father was one of Gwanghae’s brothers.
Should we copy them to your blog? It’s useless here.

Sure. Also your excellent historical notes! I’m slowly adding missing recaps. I still need to do Ep. 1-2, which deserve full recaps.

I’m excited that you will be recapping episodes 1 and 2!
It’s so great to finally have a place where our notes are kept for future reference.
If you need more info on any of the scholars and their pen names, let me know.

😂 you guys are terrible. But that was cute! So, if he’s the former king’s nephew, that would make him this king’s cousin? And second cousin once removed from the princess? She would still be a legitimate spouse, even though they were related, right? I’m still wondering why the left councilor wouldn’t allow him to marry her way back.

He is the former king’s grandson.

Dae-yeop is Prince Imhae’s son. Prince Imhae is the current king’s older brother. Their mother was a concubine of the late king. That makes Dae-yeop and Soo-kyung first cousins. First cousins were basically close enough as siblings to be allowed to get married.

Gwanghae was highly competent; therefore, he was appointed as the crown prince to rule in his father’s place during the Imjin War with Japan. Prince Imhae fled to the Ming border with his father.
When Gwanghae ascended the throne, Prince Imhae was seen as a threat since he is still the king’s oldest son, so Yicheom killed him.

In our drama, VP Lee adopted Imhae’s son as his pawn and named him Dae-yeop. His birth name is Yi Tae Ung.

It had to be something like that, but it made me gasp nonetheless. So excited that I immediately had to scroll through the posts to find you all to share it with. *screaming internally* So that level of consanguinity is off the cards. I wonder how he will respond to the offer? Surely his filial loyalty will undergo an adjustment.

      Looking at the review
*So that level of consanguinity is off the cards* should have a question mark after it.

Royals couldn’t marry someone from the same Yi clan, so that should totally and finally put an end to Dae-yeop’s hopeless crush on the princess.

And I don’t think it’s just royal practice. Up until recently South Koreans didn’t even marry people with the same surname, which I recall was an issuebrought up in REPLY 1988.

So interesting. This I did not know. Evil old VP Lee making that scandalous suggestion. How to get the better of him? It seems it will all be up to DY. History being such a spoiler, I wonder how or even if they can accomplish his demise in the two remaining episodes.
