Ok. I was pacing and daydream—one of my favorite activities–when Lucky be Jason Mraz came on which obviously made me think of Jung Yong Hwa singing Lucky in Heartstrings so I immediately went to watch that ep (ep 9) and was struck by how very young they were! PSH and JYH were 21 and 22 when they did this drama and they both have such baby faces! Park Shin Hye is SO FLIPPING CUTE! No wonder my first like 5 dramas (after coffee prince) were her dramas.

Watching this ep I feel like Im seeing some tropes that I havent seen recently (knock on wood, no one misses you)
—Standing under a shelter and holding your hand out (in wonder? Confusion?) at the rain
—flashbacks to scenes from 2 minutes ago
Oh whatever with these tropes 22 year old JYH was hot like the surface of the sun. I need to just focus on that. Woooo child.

Heartstrings is by no means a good drama, but it was also one of my early dramas and will always hold a special place in my heart. The drama itself may not be good and filled to the brim with predictable tropes and clichés but it also really got the tone just right with the characters. It really does have a very youthful and sweet vibe. And I always have a soft spot for babyfaced PSH.

Baby faced PSH is a thing of sheer joy. She makes the most ridiculous faces and shes just so so so cute. Her last two dramas I havent wanted to watch at all. I think the last drama by her that I enjoyed was Doctors and most people didnt like that one! I miss her!
I dont think Heartstrings was a GOOD drama (that ending? Come on) but it wasnt a bad one either. I think even though JYH was just absolutely not very good (he has grown SO MUCH as an actor) when he sings Because I Miss You (especially during….oh ep 2 or 3 or 4 when hes singing as his father is dying or something) that was a great moment for him. Even if hes never a GREAT actor he can convey so much with his voice. This drama is what put him on my ult bias list, actually.
This drama and this cast really did something lovely here. This was a case of sheer likeability and charisma and charm and chemistry rising above what the drama itself actually is.
Also. Jae from Day 6 totally looks like he was using Minhyuk in this drama as his style icon during his chicken little days. He looks SO MUCH LIKE HIM its adorable

I liked Heartstring, it wasn’t a perfect drama, but the cast was looking like college students and their chemistry worked. The plot with the ballet dancer wasn’t so good. But they really used the theme of the music until the end, it wasn’t just for the 2 first episodes then they gave it up. The OST was pretty good. Jung Yonghwa wasn’t perfect but for the music scenes he was really good and I liked the ones with his father and his overall his family. Moon Ga young was super cute as his little sister.
