Such a fitting day for me to upgrade to a eunuch in drag. This has to be a good sign, right? (I hope I didn’t jinx it).

Speaking of drag, the first episode of The King’s Affection was amazing. More violent and bloody than I anticipated, but not unwelcome because it actually served the plot – rather than the other way around as in most cases. The writing and pacing were strong, which is a huge relief given the somewhat outlandish premise. The child actor portraying the twins was especially impressive. Playing double roles isn’t very easy even for adult actors, yet she (I think?) did it very convincingly. I’m sad that the brother died before finding out the truth. I already liked their relationship even in that short period of time and wanted more innocent switcheroo hijinks before things went south. The show is also gorgeous to look at, but that’s basically a given these days.

Overall, totally up my alley so far. The child actors were great, but I’m ready to see Park Eun-bin and Rowoon in all their glory next episode. Its a fun time to be a sageuk fan and I hope it stays that way.
