I’ve only been around for a couple of months so wanted to ask if it has been always the case that the bloggers here have next to no direct interactions with the commenters? Was this ‘wall’ always so?

I’ve been here a few years now and it’s always been like this, admittedly I’m not really active on the various posts here only on the wall and even then rarely, from what I’ve seen most of the interactions are between the users.

Well, actually it wasn’t always like this. Dramabeans used to be run by the beloved overlords @javabeans and @girlfriday. They launched this new site in April 2017.
The staff and writers have changed since then, and GF and JB had to sell the site as it wasn’t providing enough revenue for them to well, live off. Since it changed hands, the interaction between Minions (Bean-staff) and Beans (us!) has got less, I would say.
@mary used to be very active comparatively on comments and the wall, and she used to work for Dramabeans.
Back in 2017 you see a bit more of the minions posting or commenting as well.

back then, @javabeans and @girlfriday sometimes comment on recap threads. I wonder if they still here even after they sold this site
and you remind me that I havent seen @mary too

Wow I didn’t know that they sold the site. I actually know DB from the old website but left after they switched to the new site and only came back here last year. I vaguely remember they had some activities with The Swoon (Netflix’s fan service) but not sure if they work/worked for Netflix though.

I miss Mary (and her sense of humor) sooooo much!

I feel so old here, having followed this site since 2007 when live-watching Coffee Prince and waiting fervently for Javabeans’ recap. She started the Dramabeans blog around 2006 and it had been her personal blog until it became so big and popular that GirlFriday came in together with others in the 2010s – notable bloggers including HeadsNo2 and Gummimochi (both of whom have quite different drama taste than JB and GF) and than later on, the lovely Mary.

In the hay days, there were DB face-to-face parties held at different cities in the US and that lasted few years. Over time, this site is a community of kdrama fans. After the site was sold to James Sun, JB and GF fade out and honestly, the family feel is no longer there. And I must say the attachment to bloggers is almost non-existent. It’s really the Beanies section that still draw me in as the news are often behind. Miky is always the first to report any casting news ahead the website. BUT, we should be grateful that this site is still run because it’s by and large a collegial haven for k-sharing.

Before the fanwall existed, they interacted quite a lot on drama episode recap comments section.
