Sadly, that’s what Confucian Joseon’s social order was like.
Traditional sageuks are brutal, and maybe it’s best not to watch them with a modern mindset.
This is not my first seguek and I don’t recall watching one between a ruler and household help. Two extremes. One with absolute power and the other with none.

I share your concern even if I have enjoyed some aspects of the show. Episode 7 was very problematic and you re absolutely right.
