“Run On” (2020) [7/7]
Starring: Yim Si-wan and Shin Sae-kyeong
This show carries very human lessons, morals, and themes. It’s simple, in that none of the conflicts ever peak at unimaginable or impossible to overcome. The characters are flawed and real. The love story of a film translator and a national team runner (or a female CEO and a university art student) shouldn’t make any sense, but the story-telling in this shows strips down the drama and the dramatics for a story about people. People who disappoint, miscommunicate, learn, and love. I enjoyed the show. I loved the messages about perspective (translation) and personal growth (PR).
A long pause in the middle of the show prevents me from falling head over heels for it, but the characters are all people we may know and care about and their struggles (while not necessarily relatable) are understandable. It’s a show about chosen family and recognizing your first “love” and life partner is yourself… don’t forget to take care of that person.
