is it just me or does anybody else feel that Netflix needs to work on their kdrama translations? sometimes I feel robbed by their translations…..

I’ve herd numerous complaints about their subbing. When Squid Game went viral, a lot of Koreans pointed out the inaccuracies in their translations.

sometimes in the conversation I hear some words that I recognize but are not in the subs and I wonder if I’m imagining it or that maybe its a word that sounds similar…man, I feel that I’m missing out on what’s really happening in the shows…! so disappointed!

Oh it’s not just you. This has been a complaint for years. Ever since Netflix started getting kdramas actually.
Idk what’s worse, them subbing a swear word when there is none, or when Run On had the worst subs of the year and it was a show about literally movie subtitle translation… the irony.
I think they’re got a little better maybe over the past 6 months? That or I’ve just got used to it and supplement with my growing knowledge of Korean in my head.

The swear word thing really gets me. My favourite Netflix subtitle is from Vagabond:

onscreen sound: heavy sigh, no actual words spoken]
      subtitle: F*ck!

      (Without the star, obviously)

Might be your growing knowledge of Korean, bc I still abhor them.

Oh, trust me I hate their subs. The more I understand Korean the more I hate them.
Tbh I get annoyed everytime I see Netflix gets the license for a new show.
