Posting my mini Review here also, just in case the relevant people don’t get the other tag (@gadis and @midnight mainly):
Disclaimer: I am basically allergic to Time Travel as a concept in its entirety, so from that point of view this show was not made for me at all, and I probably shouldn’t have watched it because of that…
There are some plot points (holes) that can be explained away via theories, and there are some plot points (holes) that definitely cannot be. And it’s all very well to have a block universe theory but to me that just sounds like a cop out for the plot holes, and also kind of weirdly makes the entire show pointless in some ways… But basically, I don’t really have much more to say on the plot because, whilst I COULD say a lot, I just kind of think Time Travel is dumb… so… moving on.
I had fun for the first 5, 5 and a half episodes, for what it was; I thought the way the action was written and shot was well done and slick.
Character wise- I enjoyed Seo Kang Joon immensely and I like Saeha, but I didn’t find his arc to be very satisfying or well written overall. I wasn’t really moved, or into his motivations and what development there was.
Thematically I also didn’t really care of anything this was trying to say- I’m not opposed to some of its themes, but I didn’t find its attempt at them to be very interesting or compelling; they’ve been done before and better, so they didn’t grab me here.
Oh! Hahaha. /My/ green light. Oh dear haha- I wouldn’t recc it but if you like TT it might be alright… please do let me know what you think haha.
I think I miraculously avoided most major spoilers in this.
Hahahaha! Ok I’ll be honest. I had watched a few intense thrillers back to back and felt too drained to start Grid. I was lazily watching Start Up and waiting to see what you might say.
Now I have started Youth of May, and I don’t know if I have the head space to continue melodrama or the thrill will call me back!
Oh that’s totally fair enough to be honest- I know the feeling well.
For what it’s worth I didn’t really find Grid that heavy or intense- and it does move pretty quickly if you binge it.
Please no! I watched it while it aired each week and I guess part of that was what kept the suspense going, but it would be even more disappointing if you were to binge watch! Please don’t spend your time on this drama by depending on the writer’s past work or the actors and use it on worthwhile dramas
Weirdly, I feel like I should’ve or could’ve been way more annoyed and frustrated at this drama than I was. I reached a resigned consensus on it pretty quickly when I finished the final episode today. I also always expected it to not make sense given the whole… time travel thing lmao. Maybe wasn’t expecting it to make THAT much no sense but… ya know! hahaha
I love this genre and I love this writer and if you ask me wtf happened in this show I couldn’t tell you. I *think* I know what they were saying but – oh look, Dark continues to have a lot to answer for.
It definitely made me angry when I watched it every week. Every week would end up woth more questions and a cliff hanger. I guess it will more bearable when binge watched.
Oh, it won’t make you angry. Just confused. Though it’s a good, intriguing kind of confusing for me (I’m clearly one of the weird ones when it comes to this drama).
Haha…
To be honest, I read this fully prepared to defend the drama or argue my point. And then I found out that I couldn’t really argue against… indifference(??). I fully understand it, though, since time travel seemed to be really not your genre. (While I found out that I like it quite a bit even in k-drama format)
Let’s hope for another “weird” dramas in the future where we can compare our thoughts and opinions more enthusiastically. 😆😆
Just think of it as bubble universes, with two new timelines branching off from and looping back around to the parent universe. Like Dark.
So in one we have the Ghost’s world that she’s trying to ensure comes about (the female line) and in the other we have the other timeline that the other time traveller is trying to bring about (the male line). Like Dark.
And these changes are affected by travelling back to the original parent universe. Like Dark.
What therefore seem like Bootstrap paradoxes are due to the interactions of the three universes
I think the biggest flaw of the show was that Lee Soo-yeon didn’t give the story the emotional heft it needed. Dark was devastating. Emotionally devastating. I can’t say that about Grid. Even Sae-byeok’s sudden decision to sleep with her ex and have his child wasn’t supported by her emotional growth during the show. I would have found it more believable if she announced she was pregnant to Sae-ha instead.
No, I can understand that, that doesn’t make me think it’s less dumb though… ๐ ๐
100% agree about the emotional heft though.
When she said she barely knew Saeha in that scene to Eojin, as if she like had no reason to care … I was like… girl~
And the fact that she literally says 10 seconds before the “kiss” that she wants to nothing to do with him?
(post script: I haven’t seen Dark. I have read your review on Dark though. Something tells me I wouldn’t love it as much as you ๐ )
I have to agree with this despite liking the show itself. Grid could use more emotional anchor to make viewers more invested in the crazy timelines change. The show came off as too cerebral to be moving, almost as if it was a long illustration for time-travel theories. (Though a part of my nerdy self is actually giddy because of it. Haha…)
At the end I was scratching my head as to why he had to die for the timeline and then I realised – it was because her need for comfort after his loss was what led her to sleep with her ex and have her daughter. But that relies on us believing firstly that his death devastated her and also that she had some residual feelings and/or sexual tension wth her ex. I saw neither of those things. If anything, I thought she had nothing but contempt for her ex.
You also have to wonder at why THAT apparently was her plan for Saebyeok to have a child? Like… really? That’s the only plan you have? Good grief. (Well no, it’s probably not the only plan you have if the ending is anything to go by but WHY was it the plan WE had to watch… 👀.
And then we’re back to LT’s original comment lel)
I only now checked the writer. Now the beanies’ disappointment is much more understandable. I didn’t dislike FoS but I didn’t think it a masterpiece like most beanies do. The only reason I was curious about Grid was because of TT.
Yes the writer is also why the procedural components were better written than the scifi ones and why she’s more comfortable with professional rather than personal relationships.
You really have a high tolerance for sitting through dramas that you do not enjoy, dislike or lose interest midway and then continue to put a writeup(short/long/whatever) on it😂😂😂
*snorts* and at great detriment to my sanity and blood pressure, I know.
I think this is a compliment but something tells me it shouldn’t be. Honest, I’m way better at dropping than I used to be, if you can believe that. 😂

Thank you Sic.

Oh yes there is no way I could have tolerated this week to week with only one episode. And then to get the end and realise it’s not the end at all.

Definitely. The 10 week wait was a bit excruciating but did make it a bit more palatable… at least just on a consumption rate level.

I started it. But the one episode by week made the story very slow. So I thought I will binge it at the end. But the final review made me dropped it.
I don’t understand why they try SF when they don’t seem to have at least a vague idea of their story…
