This is a perennial issue – here’s how to get around it:
Type your text somewhere else (Word, notes app, etc.) and then copy it. Paste it into the dialog box using the mouse/cursor, not a keyboard shortcut. For example, in Chrome, go to Edit then Paste. Shortcuts such as command-V or ⌘-V won’t work. After pasting, do not type anything else in the dialog box or everything over 200 characters will disappear again. You can still add photos or links.
There’s a much greater limit on characters in replies to posts.

Why can’t I make posts on my fanwall longer than 200 characters? Does anyone know why that’s happening?
