I once had this very same reaction when I had a surprise encounter with an author I was a fan of! They were incredibly sweet and even asked to borrow my name for a future work (and they used it!).
Meeting authors is awesome! But I’m always a nervous wreck. And authors are the most approachable celebrities most of the time. This is why I kind of hope I would never meet a musician or actor I like because I would probably just pass out.
I used to be involved in the dance community that worked as backup dancers. I have met more musicians than most, but have been able to act like a normal human doing so. It was a job, and I was prepared to meet them, so it wasn’t all that difficult.
However, I was at a friend’s birthday party when I was introduced to her cousin “who by the way is also known as the author insert-pen-name-here, if you ever heard of them.” 100% unprepared, I kinda just went total fan-mode and started talking about my favorite parts and asking questions! Later that night I was banging my head against the wall for acting like such a dork!
