Well, here is what I think:

the ending of season one would coincide with the three year time jump of season two, where we see Apostle Jo being taken to the police station after his arrest (at the end of season one). But the early events of season one probably took place around the same time as the main events of season two. The climax of season one would have taken place three years after Elder Choi’s and Pastor Song’s deaths in season two.

The Pastor burns in the Church fire. Realistically, I would have expected to hear a lot of screaming. He is quickly engulfed by the flames, and that’s all we see.

I am glad that Uhm Tae-goo got a leading part in a drama. While he is a good actor, I don’t know that he would be cast as a lead in a romantic drama. He doesn’t seem to fit the standards for romantic leads in television shows. But who knows? Maybe things will change.

I was wondering if there would be some reference to the first season and we got it in the form of Apostle Jo. But I can’t help but wonder about the timeline. Season 1 started in 2014 (I briefly looked at the recap of episode one) and ended about a couple of years later, right? The ending of the Second Season implies that its events occurred before those of the first. The ending of season two takes place three years after Elder Choi and the pastor have died. I don’t know what I’m trying to say. LOL! I guess it could make sense. Maybe the beginning of season one takes place shortly after the main events of season two (i.e. prior to the time skip at the end of season two)? I guess I was wondering if there were any anachronisms, which I notice in a lot of kdramas that have flashbacks to earlier times. Season two was made in 2019, but its events are supposed to go back more than a few years if it is to predate the first season.

I was kind of expecting a different reference to the first season. The cult of season one never truly died. It had an offshoot led by Apostle Kang. And of course, Sangmi’s father was part of smaller group still supporting the dead cult leader. Perhaps season two could have referenced those vestiges of the fallen cult.

Did we have exact dates in season 2? I can’t recall one.
      Season 1’s time period: 2014(high school) – 2017(main events)

      So season 2 should be: 2014(resolution) – 2017(epilogue)

Chil Sung meeting either Sangmi’s father or Apostle Kang would’ve been better than Apostle Jo. I thought someone would say they look alike haha.

I was almost okay with the timeline until I remembered Elder Choi’s BTS UN speech reference. Their speech took place in September 2018, right? Also, the drama is set in the late Spring/early Summer (I know that this is a live shoot and all, but there are ways to make it look like you are filming during a different season). So the ending of the main events of season two is probably around 2019. We then have a three-years-later epilogue. So we are in 2021.

The main events of season one take place in 2017. I believe the year is mentioned in the show itself. The recap of Season One, episode four, gives us the time jump to 2017. Season one starts in 2014, has a time jump to 2017, and then gives us a vague time skip at the end.

So, this shows that season one’s end could not have taken place after season two’s time jump. This was a mistake on the part of season two’s writers. The BTS reference seals the deal in my opinion.

        🙂

Oops, I meant we are in 2022 (or even 2021, depending on whether we are still in late 2018 or mid 2019 when the main events take place. I am using the BTS reference as a time guide).

Your deduction sounds right with the BTS reference 😮 They almost go us if it wasn’t for that detail.

hmm.. then they could be hinting at season 3 where apostl jo is back to scamming people and landed back in jail 😛

While I wouldn’t mind another creepy season, I don’t think that Apostle Jo’s cameo means that he is up for another round of evil. He is dressed the same way that he was before being arrested in season one. He even has some bruising, although he had a lot more bruising and blood at the end of season one (I don’t know if the production teams are different for both seasons, but I wonder how carefully they looked at the previous season for consistency). And I am sure he was arrested on multiple charges, including murder and sexual assault/rape. I wouldn’t expect him to be getting out any time soon (one would hope).
