Is W really that bad?
I didn’t watch it & I feel like I’m missing out.
When I asked people or looked online it seems like it’s either one of the best thing they’ve ever watched or hours of their life they can’t get back.
Everything I’m watching is quite dark (Watcher, Life, VIP) & I need some bright energy with Extraordinary You ending.
Should I not watch it? Or just skip some ep or something?

So I don’t know about W but if you want some bright energy why not give weightlifting fairy kim bok ju a chance?

Thank you but for some reasons I don’t like the 2 main actors. I tried giving it a shot since everybody here loved it but I just couldn’t.

Weight lifting fairy gets great around the 4 episode mark and remains consistently good. It isn’t extraordinary but definitely light. W, however isn’t light. In fact it demands attention. The firat 8 episodes are great but it took a turn in the last 8 episodes. It wasn’t that bad but when all of us were live watching it, we had really high hopes for it after the first episode but it didn’t live up to it. But I do think that if people marathon it, then you may not feel that way because there isn’t much room for discussion and pondering. I don’t think Life is dark compared to W. But if you want to try, do so, because you’ll love the first half and honestly the second isn’t that bad either.

Oh really it looked so much brighter & happy than Life. I’m definitely going to binge it if I give it a go. I think I’ll just watch the first half & if I don’t like what’s next just drop it then. Thank you

The second half of W isn’t light or bright at all. Some scenes were pretty creepy and unsettling. Have you watched Memories of Alhambra? W is from the same writer and it suffered from the same problems as MoA. Great but not detailed ideas and the end was unsatisfactory and awful.

I vouch for Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo as well. Just like you I didn’t understand why all Beanies loved this drama so much, I avoided it for 3 years and looked down on the main actors. But I was very wrong. The story is so heartwarming, the writing and acting was all superb from the start to the end. I actually regret not watching it live back then.

@cherryinbloom I didn’t realize it was from the same writer, ok thank you I think I can guess how, what kind of mess it’s gonna be at the end then

I’ll try again for WFB a bit later since you loved it so much

i dropped it after 8 eps cause i was busy at that time, but what i saw was fun/funny/interesting. i think the ones that didn’t like it had issues with the 2nd half.

If you want something light and absolutely delightful check out Pegasus Market. It’s airing right now and it is TOTALLY worth every hour. I can’t recommend it enough. And there are other beanies here who are also enjoying it.

Yeah I’ve seen posts about it but it’s just not my kind of humour

I liked W but it definitely isn’t my favorite drama out there. It was entertaining and there was good chemistry between the leads, but it did get a bit crazy near the end.

For light-hearted dramas I suggest Put Your Head on My Shoulder. It’s a cute cdrama with very little angst or drama. Just about a cute couple falling in love. I also suggest Secret Life of my Secretary. It’s tons of fun with lots of entertaining characters. Also had great chemistry between the leads.

I also agree with Weightlifting Fairy.

I loved put your head on my shoulder. I haven’t watched Secret Life of my secretary though I’ll check it out.

I don’t think you can really call W bad – the first half was an excellent drama, the second half was fine but lost its way as the writer didn’t really know what they were doing. It’s totally worth seeing, because the leads are great and it’s an interesting concept for a show nor does it do anything egregiously bad in the latter half. It’s just that the latter half seems to be making it up as it goes along rather than have the tight plotting and world building of the first half. It doesn’t commit character assassination or pull the focus to something stupid or suddenly introduce random new plot twists (as far as I recall).

I agree with everything that’s been said about W… and yet somehow it is still one of my Top 3 KDramas.

    As for happy/bright dramas:

Fight for my Way – this was a fun funny ride, with a friends to lovers plot.

Love in the Moonlight – my memory is a bit fuzzy with this one, Park Bo Gum is just toooooooo pretty in here.

Marriage, Not Dating – this one is a quirky contract dating romance. It’s utterly enjoyable.

Queen In Hyuns Man – this is from the same writer as W (if memory serves rme right) but it doesn’t suffer from the same problems. But instead of merging comic-RL it merges the past-RL. It is truly a masterpiece.

Something about 1% (2016) – The episodes are only 40min long, which means the episodes are very tightly written and almost entirely focused on the main couple, who are very delightfully at odds in the beginnigs.

Also, I second or third WFKBJ. You will not regret watching this if you make it past the initial few episodes.

I looved Fight for my way. Queen In Hyun’s Man & Marriage, not dating are 2 of my favorite dramas of all time! Now I’m rewatching bits of QIH’M On YouTube 🥰

      I’ll watch Something about 1% when I’m done with W 😊
I don’t really like sageuks unless they’re fusion but I’m trying to get into it. I’ll start with Love in the Moonlight then, now I miss Park Bogum

W was one of the shows that I couldn’t resist and live watched. The first part of the show was awesome like really awesome. I remember rewatching the episodes each week before watching the new episodes that came out. But then episode 8(?) came and it turned into everything scary and creepy and yet despite that W is still one of my all time favs!
I was able to love it even with the genre change.

I personally got really confused in the middle of it. It suddenly became really complicated and dramatic and I wasn’t a fan of it. It was okay up to that point. Don’t feel bad about missing out on it until now. Just give the first episode a try and see if you like it.

I LOVE W. My only gripe with it is that the last ep is completely lack-luster. I rewatch it a lot, and usually ff through the last ep.
