i am so badly angry… people want other artists to work for them but dont want to pay the worth of all the hardwork and creativity…. and then start all the bagaining “its just start for you and blah blah blah”

Lol life of an artist on a nutshell. Paid way way less than the amount of stress, hardwork and time required.

exactly… and when you say why its worth they started justifying the low pay that they can afford, which I detest, it just spoils the whole work atmosphere and the excitement feeling that I supposed to have for work..

I once had a friend casually ask if my art student kid would make a logo for company, for basically nothing. She wanted a total rebrand, new logo, signage, etc. and thought it could just be whipped up in a matter of minutes. I laughed in her face, and asked if she proposed this pay scale to the contractors working on her storefront. We’re not really friends anymore.

          ART IS LABOR

ART IS LABOR very damn true.
and when she herself is an artist a dancer properly looking for starting her own startup… and planning to pay me almost 1/4th of what I asked for all my work and dedication….. and keeps on saying “initially i cant afford that much”

when I spent almost 1000$ to buy my new laptop, camera gear and all the things did i think i cant afford….. i am soooo not sure how to make her understand or just ignore her ? she came upto me 2 time in last 2 years and everytime she has same word “I cant afford this” and next year same her drama…
sorry for almost ranting.. am in soooo bad mood.

Regarding graphic designing though, people think it’s magic, easily done and like a hobby for people that is why they’ll hardly have to do anything. I have studied media and I’m still terrible at graphic designing and all art related stuff. I think all this is the hardest to do and if it wasn’t for graphic designers speaking out themselves, people thought they only did this for fun and only have to draw some lines for free

I’ve been doing things like this as a volunteer to preserve little bit of sanity and have some pleasure for years but I’m amazed by some people full of money trying to get almost everything for free. They won’t even mention who did the work for them.

@kerouregan, these are also the same people that mock artists for choosing to study art instead of something “practical” or “useful”

I could rant for a very long time.

Their excuse is always โ€˜but Iโ€™m giving you exposure!โ€™ Like exposure only can feed you. Wonโ€™t the artist get the same exposure if you paid in full?

Oh!!! Just hold firm. Apparently, she canโ€™t afford anyone else either, as she still is asking you after 2 years!

My sister who is an artist (she went to art school and gets lots of money doing commissions for people) always complains about this. When she was working other jobs her employers would give her artwork to do that had nothing to do with her job and expect her to do it. Or people she knew online would try to get her to draw for them for free quoting as others have said ‘you would get exposure!’ She even had someone ask her to design a tattoo for free because it would somehow give her exposure by doing so (not sure how it would). Or when people were willing to pay, they would complain about how expensive it was or it isn’t worth that much. People don’t understand, that if she feels it’s worth that much, then it’s worth that much and it’s insulting to say otherwise. If you can’t afford her artwork, go to someone you can afford. As well as she has had her artwork stolen many times on top of all this.

You don’t ask writers to write you a book for free, so why do people have this idea you can ask artists to do artwork for free?

I’m sorry you have to go through this 😡
