Open Forum: Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo vs My I.D. Is Gangnam Beauty
(Honestly I’m just passing the time till school starts…)

Graceful Family vs Vagabond was too one sided, this one’s more fair

Choosing between these two dramas is extremely difficult. Both share parallels within the story, setting, and plot. What I personally like about these two dramas is that both are very wholesome and the romance is quite cute and sweet. As a college student myself, I can kinda relate to their struggles and hardships. Also, the romance in these dramas make me lowkey jealous. Both of these dramas share something in common, story-wise. I can’t seem to decide which I like more. SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS!

Bok Joo for the WIN! 🏋🏻‍♀️🏋🏻‍♀️

I enjoyed Gangnam Beauty and admired the fact that they wanted to touch on issues of cosmetic surgery/bullying/self-esteem but the magic of WFKBJ is that it remains in your heart and memory long after it’s over.

I choose My ID is Gangnam Beauty. Sure, the male lead had the personality of a rock, but Im Soo Hyang was absolutely incredible and the plot tackled issues of plastic surgery and bullying really well.

I had to stop watching Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo halfway through. Came back to it about a month later and was able to finish. I found Bok Joo too whiny. The drama was decent overall though.

The rock was one of the reasons it became a chore for me.

I could handle it because he was overshadowed by the rest of the cast who I thought did a great job. For Weightlifting Fairy, my problem was that Bok Joo’s whiny personality couldn’t be overshadowed so it was a much more prominent annoyance for me.

Weightlifting Fairy is the timeless feel-good youth drama I reach for whenever I’m having a hard time. It’s more optimistic and lighthearted than Gangnam Beauty, which I think makes it overall more palatable for a wider audience. I also think it does a better job with female friendships and youth in general, even though it generally focuses on lighter themes. It also packed more of an emotional punch for me than MIDGB. I loved both dramas but my vote is definitely with WFKBJ.

Again with my very biased opinion. I only ever got as far as 3 or 4 episodes in My I.D is Gangnam so, I’m team Weightlifting’s Kim Bok Joo.
