Jinyoung successfully auditioned for JYP Entertainment in 2009. In May 2012, Jinyoung and his fellow trainee JB debuted as the duo JJ Project with the single album Bounce. The duo joined the South Korean boy group Got7 in January 2014. The group then released their debut extended play Got It?, which topped Billboard’s World Album Chart and peaked at number two at the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart. In November 2014, they released their first studio album titled Identify. In January 2021, Got7 left JYP Entertainment following the expiration of their contracts.

Prior to his music debut, Jinyoung starred in the KBS2 series Dream High 2 from January to March 2012. Jinyoung also made appearances in the 2015 JTBC series Beloved Eun-dong and the 2016 SBS drama Legend of the Blue Sea, where he both played the teenage versions of the male leads. In 2017, he made his big screen debut through the independent film A Stray Goat. He was nominated for the Most Popular Actor award at the 53rd Baeksang Arts Awards for his work in the movie. In 2018, he landed his first television lead role in the tvN fantasy romantic comedy That Psychometric Guy.

Jinyoung has already changed his stage name twice. Having the same name as JYP Entertainment founder J.Y. Park, he was given his first stage name Jr. It was then changed to Junior to prevent it from being mispronounced as “J-R”. In August 2016, he began using the mononym Jinyoung to show his overall growth.
