Shin Sung-rok made his acting debut in 2002 with a supporting role in the SBS series Shoot for the Stars. In 2007, he was nominated for Best New Actor at the 13th Korea Musical Awards for his work in Dancing Shadows. The following year, he was again nominated for Best New Actor, this time at the MBC Drama Awards for the drama My Life’s Golden Age. In 2010, he landed a main role in the hit SBS daily series Definitely Neighbors, which won him Best Supporting Actor at the SBS Drama Awards. In 2013, he was cast as Park Hae-jin’s older brother in the popular SBS fantasy romantic comedy You from Another Star, which gave him numerous acting recognitions. In 2014, he bagged the Best Supporting Actor trophy at the KBS Drama Awards for the dramas Trot Lovers and King’s Face. In 2017, he received an Excellence Award at the MBC Drama Awards for his appearance in the series Man Who Dies to Live. In 2018, he acted alongside Jang Nara and Choi Jin-hyuk in the SBS drama An Empress’s Dignity, which earned him a Top Excellence Award at the SBS Drama Awards. In 2020, he bagged the Best Entertainer Award at the SBS Entertainment Awards for the variety show Master in the House. That same year, he led the MBC series Kairos, which scored him a Top Excellence Award at the MBC Drama Awards.


Shin Sung-rok started dating prima ballerina Kim Joo-won in 2011. They broke up in 2015. In June 2016, the actor tied the knot with a non-celebrity office worker in Hawaii. The couple welcomed their first daughter in November 2016. Shin Sung-rok’s younger brother is a chef and a former basketball player named Shin Jae-rok.
