It is bonkers that “Good bad mother” got nominated for best screenplay and best drama.
But nice that Lee honee was nominated in the best actress category for “Knight Flower” as well as Lee Jongwon in the best new actor category: https://www.soompi.com/article/1653702wpp/60th-baeksang-arts-awards-announces-nominees

Dear Emma, I thought I was the only one thinking that about good bad mother. It really drove me mad as this drama should be erased from the world with its abusive and traumatizing events. The only thing I could get behind was Ra Mi-ran’s nomination because she is a much talented actress but no more.
Honey Lee nomination made my day and I am rooting for her with all my heart. Also glad for Lee Jong-won, I loved him in the drama.

      Dear Bunny,
There was/is definitely more of us who thought that. It was lovely seeing the happy moments of the main leads and the littlies but everything else was awful. And, agreed!

It is a work of art and storytelling.
Positively or negatively theme, that isn’t a yardstick to use to guage what gets nominated what. There are several bad characters in drama history that were nominated and won best character award but their said characters in the drama were the worst of evil. I’m talking about Jung Moon-sung in Haechi and the King in My Dearest.

As negative as Good Bad Mother was, the question is: Was the writing great as a work of art? Was the drama great overall as a work of art? If it did, I don’t see any issues with the nominations it garnered.

This drama wasn’t a work of art in any shape of form deserving of nomination in those categories. If you feel differently, so be it.

I actually don’t feel differently. I knew I’d be uncomfortable with it so I didn’t even watch it.

However, the drama made it through the selections and made multiple nominations. The body of jurists sure understands what makes a work of art, and while we might feel differently about it, they view this things from a different lens entirely. Sometimes this lens converge with ours as viewers. Sometimes it diverges. Here, with Good Bad Mother, it diverged.

I’m not in any way saying the drama didn’t rub the wrong shoulders or it wasn’t salty. I read the recaps for some parts and I went bonkers myself. And the categories that got nominated again will drive one bonkers cause those who watched it know what they watched and as such it shouldn’t get nominated in this categories. If anyone should get nominated for their roles, it should be the ML and Ahn Eun-jin. Best Drama and Best Screenplay? How…🤯🤯?

With all due respect to the selectors, other factors might have affected their selection. Objectively, the screenplay was not coherent, it was full of filler scenes, it fetishised awful parenting and for very little gain and it didn’t allow its main leads to develop their relationship logically after the injury. It wasn’t worthy of being nominated in those categories.
