Beanie level: Errand boy

Roundup’23. Day 16. A guilty pleasure.
It has to be Bora Deborah. A drama many beanies started but only a few of them finished and even less liked it.
The ending wasn’t great but I enjoyed the ride.

If you liked it, why should others not liking it make you feel guilty?

The only thing I might feel guilty for, is watching variety show clips on YouTube for the 10th time instead of m house chores! And if it makes me laugh like crazy I won’t feel guilty for that either!

Well, I don’t really feel guilty but I think that’s the prompt today 😅

(I have also watched some clips from 2D&1N season 3 a few times instead of doing more “important” tasks 🤭).

      5
      1

        I’m skipping today’s prompt because I don’t really know what I should answer…

Roundup 2023. Day 15. Worst parents.

Some days ago I already mentioned in this Roundup King Injo (My Dearest) and the ML\’s mother in Call it love, because they both deserved a kimchi slap.
But there are so many bad parents in Dramaland that the list would be almost infinite.

Last addition: Left State Councilor in Matchmakers.

Roundup 2023. Day 14. Best bromance.

_ K-dramas released in 2023:
Yi Chan (Choi Hyun Wook) and Eun-gyeol (Ryeoun) in Twinkling Watermelon.
Runner Up: Miraculous Brothers.

_ K-dramas pre-2023: Prison Playbook, Navillera, Signal, Chief Kim, Mirror of the Witch…

I can say I have had a year full of memorable bromances.

Of course, Jeon Yu Na (The Kidnapping Day). This young actress has a promising future.

Roundup 2023. Day 10. New Crush? 🤔

I’m afraid I have my first and only crush in Dramaland (since the early months of 2022) and it’s completely impossible for me to have another. Maybe in the future but not now.

As a favorite male character this year I already mentioned our lovely vampire in Heartbeat 💗

And as a favorite actor I have started to follow this year… I’ll say Kang Hoon, after knowing him in Meow and Secret Romantic Guesthouse. I also watched him in some videos in this new variety in Mongolia. He is so nice and cute!

Kang Hoon was “new” (to me) this year, and he’s great!!! He was the best part of Secret Romantic Guesthouse for me, and I also enjoyed his appearance on Running Man… I need to watch his second Running Man appearance, too!

Roundup 2023. Day 9 – Your non k-drama recommendation.

From Taiwan: Someday or One Day.
From USA: Only murders in the building, Daisy Jones & the Six.

Roundup 2023. Day 8. The character who most screams for mental health care.

Drama: My Dearest.
Who? Paranoid King Injo (Kim Jong Tae).

Roundup 2023. DAY 7.
The drama Beanies convinced you to watch and you can’t be grateful enough.
I could say Heartbeat… But I’ll pick Fake It Till you make it because in this case the buzz and hype came to me completely from Dramabeans.

Roundup 2023. Day 6. The character who deserves lots of kimchi slaps. Or better, to be buried in kimchi.
Dongjin\’s mother (Nam Ki-ae) in Call it Love. She got on my nerves.

Roundup Day 5- OTP you didn’t think you would adore.

C-drama Fake it till you make it: Tang Yin (Cai Weng Jin) and Xu Zi Quan (Han Elvis). I loved their love story, from start to finish.

Roundup 2023. Day 4.

_ The drama I liked but most of beanies didn\’t:
Bora Deborah. I watched it on air (something unusual) and I enjoyed it most of the time. I think the main actors were charismatic and good in their roles, I laughed many times, the script was interesting… My complaint is the ending, which was rushed and somehow disappointing, but I still remember that drama with a smile.

_ The drama many beanies loved but I disliked (and however I finished it): to no one\’s surprise, Perfect Marriage Revenge. I can\’t say a single thing I liked in this drama. I wish I could have enjoyed it as much as everybody else, but I couldn\’t care less for the plot or the characters, so I got bored. It\’s been a painful bean to get. I guess this is the last time my friends and I make an effort to finish a drama we are not enjoying.

I totally get your positive feelings about Bora! And I absolutely agree that the ending felt rushed (and let’s not talk about the relationship between U-ri and whatshisface, which I did not love) but otherwise it’s a show I remember fondly. It was something I hadn’t seen before, and it was interesting and fun!

Uri and her boss ending up together was a very big mistake. Huge.
Even more, it had no sense plot-wise (unless the writer is trying to tell us that those things -mistakes- happen, whether we like them or not).

      2
      1

And it was such a bummer because I loved the Boss’s relationship with his ex wife. I’m glad they didn’t get back together or anything, but all of his most meaningful moments were with her, as they were both trying to make sense of what happened to their marriage. It was such an interesting dynamic that we don’t always get in dramas!

The other photos I wanted to add to my previous post.

Jin Bu-ja, Zombie Girl in Hwayugi and Lu Di in Reset 😍

#2023 Round Up Day 3 : Side Character Who Stole the Show.

_ K-drama 2023: Kim Shi Yeol (Kang Hoon) in “Secret Romantic Guesthouse”. In fact, I don’t think it’s fair to call him “secondary character”. He was as important as the main leads, because of the choral nature of this show.

_ K-drama pre-2023 I watched in 2023: Zombi girl (Lee Se Young) in Hwayugi (2018).

_ C-drama pre 2023: Lu Di (Zeng Ke Kang) in “Reset” (2022).

#2023 Roundup. Day 2 –
Male Lead you will never forget.

K-drama 2023: this has been a great year for Male leads. I could easily pick the main characters in Twinkling Watermelon, or Namgoong Min in My Dearest. I loved all of them.
But I\’m going with Sun Woo Hyeol (Taecyeon) in Heartbeat, because of his charms and purest heart.

C- dramas 2023: it\’s a tie. Zhi Yao (Li Xian) in Meet Yourself and Xu Zi Quan (Elvis Han) in Fake it till you make it.

K-drama pre-2023 watched in 2023: Dong Sik (Yoon Shi Yoon) in Psychopath Diary.

C-drama pre 2023 watched in 2023: He Zi Qiu (Zhang Xincheng) in Go Ahead.

Taiwanese drama pre-2023 watched in 2023: Li Zi Wei / Wang Quan Sheng (Greg Hsu) in Someday or One Day.

I love your selections. Thank you for selecting both Yoon Shi-yoon and Taecyeon. 👏

Those two characters, Woo Hyeol and Dong Sik, are among my favorite main male leads ever, so this was a good moment to mention them 😊

But as I said, 2023 has been a year with plenty of good male characters imo. I liked a lot Shi Yeol (Kang Hoon) from Secret Romantic Guesthouse and Soo Hyuk (Yoon Hyun Min) from Bora Deborah.

Can I get a cross-cultural drama collaboration with both Greg Hsu and Yoon Shi Yoon? Please, drama gods?

When I first heard he’s doing a Korean drama I just lost my mind. Hope he does well i.e. the drama does him justice and he gets lots of good offers.

Wow. I always said I wanted YSY and Kim Nam Gil as brothers in a drama, but now reading you I think YSY and Greg Hsu in the same drama would be a dream too. Dramagods, writernims, PDnims, please make it possible.

I’m not sure about “never” but for now, I’m not over Elvis as Xu Zi Quan.

Roundup 2023. Day 1 – Female lead you will never forget (for better or worse).

K-drama 2023: Gil-chae (Ahn Eun-jin) from My Dearest.

Drama pre-2023 watched this year: Huang Yu Hsuan / Chen Yun Ru (Ko Chia-yen) from Someday or One Day (2019).

Yesterday I finished New Life Begins. Such a lovely drama!
Bai Jing Ting is so cute. I loved his character and his micro expressions.
This is my favorite song, To Taste.

A RomCom ? It looks pretty

A comedy / slice of life which centers on women and their social issues, but of course there are some romantic moments too (I have enjoyed every second of this couple and the secondary one :)).

      4
      0

I should go back to this one… I stalled at episode 18 because I was feeling frustrated with how slowly the couple was moving with their relationship when they obviously cared very much for each other. But it’s such a pretty and gentle drama (as OldLawyer called it, I think), that I should really finish it!! Plus, the FL is one of my favorite C-drama actresses, and I really liked the ML.

    1
    2

I also felt a little frustrated because I wanted to see more of the couple being together and less subplots, but I guess that’s how it is. From episode 29 they are the main characters again and their scenes are so cute!

      2
      1

From what I remember, the middle episodes— from about EPS. 15-18– were definitely slower, and I say this being a native speaker (Chinese) 😅 But as long as you’re able to get past these few episodes, you should be good!! The slower episodes of this drama are definitely better than the slower episodes of most Chinese dramas, wherein the slower moments will spread across 10+ episodes 😅😅

      2
      1

Thank you for the encouragement!! I did love the gentleness of the emotional tone while I was watching, so I’ll come back to this one when I’m needing to watch something calmer 😊 Plus, the leads are both so good 👍

        2
        1

Definitely!! This is one of those gems wherein even if you take a break from it and then come back to it at a later date to continue and finish it off, the break you take from it doesn’t feel like a break at all and doesn’t kill the mood or momentum one would want or need to continue a drama

          2

Such a wholesome drama — it was like a breath of fresh air when I first watched it. And being centered on the female characters, it also flips some gender stereotypes in very satisfying ways. Cooperation instead of cattiness. Almost everyone in the ensemble is granted the grace to become a better person over the course of the show, which is also unusual. If I had to be time-slipped into a historical setting, this one wouldn’t be too bad — after the OTP had worked their magic, that is.

The last three dramas I have marked as Favorite (My Shows section) don\’t show the banner… I don\’t know if it\’s a bug or it\’s because they don\’t have a banner designed yet.

Speechless. This episode was so good… It sums up why this drama is beautiful.
